Beast Wars DVD Reviews

Unread post by SilverfromOZ »

OK, I appear to have generated a bit of hype (and some jealousy) over mentioning listening to the audio commentary on the DVDs (those voice actors are insane but its my type of insane :D ).

Now, here is the recommendation. If you are in an NTSC region (US, etc) then the Region 1 discs are best for picture quality an smoothness because PAL has a different frame rate. However it must be noted that there are a few little things that annoyed me about the Rhino release.

1) The boxes are not all the same size. (It sounds minor, but it looks out of place when they stand next to by shiny, symmetrical Generation 1 boxed sets)

2) There are a couple of special features but not alot.

3) One of the plastic DVD holder tabs snapped off (although that could have been from overuse :D )

Now if you have no care in the world about the crystal clear picture quality and want to hear Scott making fun of Gary then the PAL discs are for you. Chock-full of special features. Shiny, symmertrical, sturdy boxes. And, alliteration aside, they are cheaper than the Rhino release (or at least they were for me). It must be said that I do own both The Rhino and the Madman releases as well as all of Season 1 and some of Season 2 on Tape (basically if I saw anything with the Beast Wars label I would throw money at the person who was holding it and run out of the store clutching my new goodies :D ).

For those who are interested check out this link to see the boxes

In all honesty, I have looked at the DVD and I think that what they meant as "Outtakes" was more the unofficial scene where Optimus return Megatron's spark. However that being said, there is more than enough hillarity with the voice actors to more than make it worthwile. Scotty always jumps in and out of character when people talk to him anyway so its kind of the same thing. :D

I will be buying these DVD's very shortly after Christmas as they were brought to my attention by another Garry fan about a month or so ago. As soon as I found out how much cooler these were than the ones that were released in the States, I had to have them. Watching that little clip with their interviews for the 3rd season killed me, especially since I've met those four voices! XD Anywho, I'm equipped with an all-region DVD player and after I'm done spending my money on gifts for Christmas, I shall save a little more and order them! *dances with joy*

Must... have!

Maybe I should just ask for people to buy them for me for my birthday since it's only eleven days after the New Year.

Or I could sneak down and find Silver and swipe them from him... *shifty eyes* Er... I mean... Did I say that outloud? "Yoink!" *runs away with his DVD's* I got 'em! I got 'em!

By the way, here's a link to the website I was shown by my buddy slash the other Garry fan:

www.BeastWars.com.au

That is where I saw a preview for the actors talking about... crazy actor stuff. I also want one of those Maximal insignia shirts because Maximals rule and Predacons drool. Well, Tarantulas does, anyway, when he feasts.

Well, depending on what type of DVD player you have, there are ways to *ahem* alter it with a different region code.

How dare you suggest such things?!!

What next? Perhaps you might tell them that they can look around on the internet for region removal devices. Or perhaps even leave a link where they can see how to perform the task itself.... nooo... Moosey we are heading down a slippery slope

Is region hacking technically illegal? I know it voids warranty but aside from that its your property and its not like you're copying disks (not that anyone would ever do such a thing :D )

I have no idea about that. With certain DVD players though, it is possible to change the regional code, and then change it back. Many players are sold worldwide and just have different codes put in depending on their intended region of sale.

EXCELLENT IDEA!!!! :D Nah, I'm not going to.

Yeah there are a whole bunch of different sites which can help you out with this process. However, Moosey, myself and BWint take no responsibility for any modifications made to DVD players as a result of this thread.

Some DVD players have a software lock, which is as easy as entering a code which changes the region (just be careful because you may only be allowed to change only a certain number of times), others have a hardware override and you need to bridge a connection, etc to do it and some just can't change at all. If you aren't comfortable with any of these choices, the best bet is by far to simply purchase a cheap multi-region player. I have three of them in my house and they are the best thing. Just pop the disk in and the machine works everything out for you.

Additionally, if you are using your computer to play the disks, I strongly recommend using AnyDVD by Slysoft. This is great because it automatically sets all DVD drives in your computer to be region free and runs in the background always. Easy.

slysoft also do clonecd and clonedvd. two products that make backing up *cough* your legitimate *splutter* cd's and dvd's simple.

mostly i find it exemplary for making copies so you can facilitate multiplayer lans wihtout all having to track down cd encryption breakers and the like.
