David Kaye to play OPTIMUS PRIME!!!

Unread post by Simon Plumbe »

Hi everyone!

Not been on for a while, but I thought I'd pop back with a little bit of news... Heather (my other half) had an email from David Kaye last night with a BIG announcement...

"I’ve been cast as the new ‘Optimus Prime’....yes, Optimus Prime !!!!!! The new cartoon series being recorded at Cartoon Network in Los Angeles. You’re the first to know on the other side of the Atlantic"

I'll keep you posted and we'll try to get a sound clip from him if we can!

 WOW!! That's awesome news! Thanks for telling us, Simon! David must be so...surprised, to be cast as his character's enemy, lol! If you could get a sound clip from him, that'd be amazing.

I know Heather's already emailed David back and I'll try to contact him over the next couple of days before we go away on holiday at the weekend.

Seems like we've created a bit of a stir on the net with this though!

If David Kaye's gonna be Prime, will Gary Chalk be Megatron? Hmmm...

This will be an interesting TF series indeed...

Prime: "Yeesss".

That rocks hard! I'll definitely be watching the new series when it airs. Awesomeness.

Congratulations to David!!!

LoL It wouldn't surprise me. Garry mentioned before that he would have had a lot of fun playing the villain. He actually did quite an impressive David Kaye Megatron impression for me once. I laughed when he read David's part of the script and said, "Well, gee, who needs him?" motioning my thumb to David nearby and Garry had a good laugh. Anywho, I think it would rock if the two of them were able to voice the leaders again but switched sides. Yessss.

Many thanks, Simon! And a pleasure to meet you! I don't recall seeing your handle around much. ^.^

My initial reaction when I saw this thread was, "No sir, you are mistaken. David Kaye must be Megatron." I had to reread it a couple times before my sleep-addled mind actually comprehended this.

My, the times are changing. Pretty soon, some of us will be saying to the young 'uns, "Back in MY day, Garry Chalk was Optimus and David Kaye played Megatron!" And then we'll tell them to get the heck off our lawn.

(But I'm sure there are already people saying the same thing about Peter Cullen.)

Anyways, David has played his fare share of good guys, hopefully I will be able to adjust to hearing his voice coming out of Optimus' mouth quickly enough.

LoL

Indeed, it'll be different, but after so many series of those two playing the same leaders all the time, I think it's time for an interesting change. That is, of course, if Garry kicks it up a notch with David. Those two rock. 8)

That's awsome that David got the role! I've heard him do many different voices, and he's alot like Scott-- has a million voices.

Tha'd be something if Gary got the role of Megatron, considering that was who he was auditioning for back when trying out for Beast Wars.
Is the answer to this question "No"?

Jagna, that's because they're human beings, just like you and I. Well, not me, I'm an alien. They sit on the hopper just like everyone else, as my mom would put it. LoL But I don't think most of them want to be treated like stars anyway. Personally, I try to treat them like friends or family. I know you can't ignore the fact that their actors, but you don't have to be all goo-goo ga-ga on them either. If I had acted like that around Garry, I doubt he would've hung out with me as much as he did at the MechaCon. I just acted like myself and before I knew it I didn't really see him as a "star" anymore. Just another guy who was very polite, very funny, has a cool voice and could sing very well. And after reading an interview, that's all he wants to be. In fact, I saw it right away when I was eating with him, Scott and Alec at that resturant. They didn't advertise who they were and didn't get carried away.

...Wow... WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

...Um... sorry about that. >>

I just really like David's voices, so I'm pretty much looking forward to hearing him as Prime. ...It would be cool if he used Treize Khushrenada's voice from Gundam Wing. Would this fit Prime?

...I gotta say that I want to hear Scott as a character in the show as well. I've really started to like his voice, mainly because he's so good and one of the best at changing tones and portraying emotions. Why the heck haven't I found the version of Saint Seiya where he voices Ikki? I so want to hear him...

Btw, I think these voices would be wonderful for Scott's TF character:

(I saw the Gundam episode a while ago and burst out laughing every time Duo said something funny.)

...Yes, I know. It's called 'necroposting' on Voice Acting Alliance. ...I once revived a one-year-old thread, by accident, and it seems it has livened up quite a bit. ...o0
