((OOC: Sorry for the dealy, guys, I have been having trouble in getting stuff done, such as this. XD Also, there was still some things I wanted to be sure of before I did post. I kno the ending is kind of crappy, but I'm still thinking about how to proceed. I might add more to the ending tomorrow. :D ))
"But you're still not sure what caused him to react in that way?"
"I don't know the specifics. All I know is that the action was, I believe, triggered at the same time the stasis pod activated and it must have something to do with the Vok." Whitegrazer said regrettably. She wished Zodiac had revealed what had happened between him and the Vok in more detail. Though due to the flashes of memories during the conversation, it must have been a horrific experience. "Zodiac had a previous dealing with them. I asked him, but he just gave a vague response. Too traumatic for him. From what I saw, I can understand why."
What...? You're Vok...? By Primus...
She felt Optimus' spark drop at her revelation. When he stumbled, stepping back fro her, she almost reached towards him in a moment of weakness, but she realized it was best for her to not do any physical contact. She remained standing where she was. Saying nothing, letting Optimus have his own thoughts and try to process what she had just told him. Oh, she didn't have to feel the intense emotion of betrayal to know what he felt. Those optics staring at her in shock and horror, realizing she was of the same species who have done invasive and quite painful scan towards him. Created a clone loyal to them and tried to kill them all. Forced him to have to ride a pod up to their Planet Buster, and thanks to the work of Megatron, exploded and died up there, with Megatron's haunting taunts. Yet, she was one who helped him, helped navigate him back to life away from the peaceful and beautiful Matrix. Despite her involvement, it still doesn't change the fact that she lied to him about who she is. To them all.

She was ashamed and waited to hear what Optimus needed to say.
"I understand why you kept this a secret for so long, Whitegrazer," Optimus finally said out loud, breaking away from their private communication. "And it must be such a terrible and exhausting burden to you... I can't even imagine. You have done so much for us that I simply can not turn my back on you. Not now. If you have been exiled from them, then you will never feel such abandonment again from my crew or from me. I just... I need some time to process all of this," he admitted. He wasn't sure how everyone else would take it - not that they needed to know - but they shouldn't judge her on her past, they should only remember who they know her as and how she has treated them. It was no different than the Predacons Optimus had allowed to join them. "And, Whitegrazer, you may not be able to settle the conflicts between the Cybertronian allegiances alone, but together we might just be able to start a revolution. After all, my crew is already a great start since it consists of Maximals, Predacons and Vok."
Whitegrazer was speechless, even though a part of her wondered what she expected from Optimus? She guessed those old scars still went deep in her experiences on Cybertron. After the war, after she went through her rigorous yet much needed training and discipline to be who she is now, with the exception of TyCross, she didn't have anyone else. No friends. Making some weren't a priority. But after what happened during the war, at the last battle where every thing should have been perfect with a Maximal-Predacon peace treaty. Peace. Instead, she helped the High Council in gaining power with a show of ruthless force that made the Tripredicus Council quake in fear, which forced the Predacons to take their battles in dark. A cold war. She had no friends. All the Maximals she knew perished. Back at the Maximal Military Academy, a lot of people... were uncomfortable around her. Rumors, whispers behind her back. She didn't hate them. They only knew what they could have her through gossip and surviving Maximal generals who knew of her exploits and demeanor, despite her change, didn't care much for her. They were mad she didn't get terminated in the Military Courts for all the Maximal deaths on her conscience.

Feeling Optimus' finger wipe the single tear from her optic, running down all the way down her cheek. Her hand reached towards his hand to hold it, appreciating the words he spoke towards her. She smiled and tilted her head. Optimus had spoke those words outloud, and she loved it. She was frightened to get everyone in trouble, but more importantly, she was also protecting herself. Still not knowing what to say, she just expresed what she felt, "I... don't deserve you. Or this crew. "

As he embraced her, those few words he spoke, making her give a perspective throughout the Beast Wars and the last war she had been in.

"I wonder what the High Council and the Tripredicus Council will say if we all rode on the ship together back to Cybertron." She cupped Optimus' face with her hands. She chuckled a bit before she let go and enjoyed the embrace, returning it. An overwhelming feeling that this might be awhile before she ever be back... here. In his arms. She almost wanted to stay like this, but she knew she couldn't.
"I know," he said as he ended their embrace and broke away from her. "I have to get down there immediately."
As Optimus left to get Zodiac, she sighed heavily. Optimus' understanding and love towards her made her decision even more difficult, but it made her even more determined to save them from her people.

And she would try her very best to do so. No matter what.
You're wasting time.., he told the female. Just go. And hope it's not already too late.
I know you don't want to be there, Zodiac. Just don't make it harder on yourself. Whitegrazer was making her way still to the alien site. She pushed her legs as much as she could. Remember the deal... I haven't forgotten what I promised you.

The end of the road was right in front of her. She stopped and observed the green scenery below her in the middle of a rocky and dusty mountain region. Pinkish flowers flew in the air. One bounced on her nose. Soft. Watched it flow off a bit before she looked down at the alien site, which it looked so peaceful yet more dangerous.

I'm at the site, Zodiac.

Optimus and the others... still unaware. This... was the only way.

((OOC: Ooooo! I can't wait to see the joint post, OOP and Phoenix! :D I'm going to post for BA here since I haven't posted her for a while, and that' not right.

Thank you, OOP. I'm just glad that is all over, that our power stayed on and I hope there wouldn't be anymore hurricanes coming towards us. Humidity! You better stay down! ))

Blackarachnia looked around the bridge, giving her optics a break from the screen. She noticed how alone she was. The Maximals left her...alone. On the bridge. Where she could do anything... naughty. Yet, they left her alone, deciphering alien symbols. She didn;t know whether to find this circumstance funny or be a bit insulted that they didn't perceive as a threat. Though she didn't miss Megatron or Tarantulas looking over her shoulder, she felt quite invigorated by the challenge as well as those small times where she had outsmarted them. These Maximals didn't seem to trust, and yet, they seemed to be letting her go where she wanted to. Rattrap was the only one who gave her the "I'm watching you. One false move and I'll shoot you" look.

She heard footsteps, and turned around to see white mare looked towards the platform exit. There was nothing aid and everything said in the expression on the mare's face. Blackarachnia didn't need any special powers to see that the mare was walking heavy like she was carrying something heavy. Her face solemn, calm as boringly usual, but there was a hint of sorrow. But also, for a moment, when Whitegrazer acknowledged her presence with a look.

There was a look of defiance. A look of anger.

Though, of course, the white mare try to hide her expressions and seemed to smile at her and nod.

As the white mare began to exit, she studied the woman's face then back at the screen with the half-cybertronian, half-sketelon face Optimus drew on the wall. Looking back several times to be sure, her optics lit up with recognition and intrigued.

I wonder where you are going?

Blackarachnia decided to track the white mare's movements. Watched her transform into beast mode and ran off. Wondered if how the Maximals would feel about such a revelation. She always felt something uneasy with the white mare, despite the fact most of the Maximals seem to adore her. Now, she figured it all out.

The white mare was out of range, yet for Blackarachnia, she knew where the mare headed to. Blackarachnia looked around. Smirked.

She decided to follow the horse.

((OOC: Hey, guys, I know I made mention that Blackarachnia still has the mind control problem, but I want to retcon that, since well, it has been two weeks and I feel that maybe Rhinox might have helped during that time. Is that all right, or do you want me to keep it?

Also, I know this post is a bit in the past since whitegrazer has left and is already at the site. But I actually wanted Blackarachnai to go there and spy on her. Gives her something to day other than.... sitting on the console. Felt it was more in character for her to do this. ))

(( OOC: Posting for Rattrap. ))

Feeling an incredible pressure against his back just above his engine that he had closed when he landed, Inferno suddenly flew off of his feet over Rattrap and skidded across the ground on his stomach eventually coming to a stop and grumbling under his breath and spitting dirt out of his mouth.
"Never turn your back on an enemy insect, I could have just blown your head off in return."
Watching his large, red body fly over his head and slam onto the ground, Rattrap looked over his shoulder to find Wintersong who had head-butted the ant right off of his feet and saved his life. "Nice hit, Winter!" he commended her with a grin, grateful for her taking action. Grabbing his gun, he took her hand as she helped him to his feet. "Thanks," he said. "I owe ya."
Arg!
"Cheetor!" the rodent cried out as he witnessed his younger comrade get blown out of the sky, slamming into the mountain. "Cheetor, do you copy? Come in, kid! Do you read me?!" he tried haling him on his comm. link but there was no response. Now they were down to three.

"Optimus, we need reinforcements!" Rattrap urged their fearless leader.

Hearing Rattrap's plea for help while walking with Zodiac, Primal opened his comm. link to the beetle. "Landslide, dispatch to Rattrap's location. They need immediate back-up."

"Rattrap, I'm sending Landslide. He'll be there soon. Hang in there."

"We're tryin'," he returned and glanced at Wintersong with worry. "Alright. Let's split up. Spineback seems distracted. You head toward Nemesis' direction an' give Tigerhawk some cover fire. I'm gonna go see ta Cheetor's status." Converting to his vehicle mode, Rattrap took off through the jungle and headed toward the mountain.
"Nemesis, Inferno, I'm going to retrieve Terrorsaur then find Waspinator, seems like we could wrap this up quickly at the rate we're going."
Inferno muttered something incoherently in response to Spineback's transmission as he slowly got to his feet and cursed the feline. Reaching for his large gun, he ignited his engine and took off to the sky for an aerial view of the area and to find those wretched Maximals. They were hard to spot under the canopy of trees, however. He narrowed his optics and ground his sharp teeth.
"Well, that's just prime!"

Optimus Primal wrote:"Landslide, dispatch to Rattrap's location. They need immediate back-up."

Landslide leaned his head up hearing the call, putting his tools away he made his way to the hanger door. On it. He responded to Optimus on the radio. He'd of been frustrated not getting the CR chamber fixed up, but the damage was mostly superficial and he was more concerned of Rattrap's group, though also had concerns leaving the base with Zodiac inside it..

Opening the hanger, Landslide stepped outside and closed the door behind him. Flipping out the landing gear on his legs, his thrusters kicked in as he rolled along the ground and took to the air, then made a barrel roll in midair as he transformed Vehicle mode! Landslide shouted, altering his course he then flew off building up speed. Unlike Cheetor or Optimus though, Landslide was still a slower flier. It would take him some time to reach the others, hopefully they'd able to hold out long enough for him to help.

(ooc: Apologies for my absence. As OOP has already said, we're working on a joint post but we've also been rather busy so it's been a slow process. But in the meanwhile, here's a a response for Nemesis at least.)

A swift check of her surroundings revealed that overall the Predacons weren't doing too well in this battle. A couple of them were already out of commission, laying unconscious on the ground, while the remaining ones were quickly getting outnumbered. Nemesis shook her head briefly at this observation, pondering exactly what insults Megatron would have used to scold his useless troops right about now. If they weren't able to bring the new Maximal, Nemesis was sure she'd be getting the brunt of the rage given Megatron's fondness of lashing out at his underlings.

She might just have to come up with a contingency plan.. A distraction, so to speak, that could help soothe Megatron's ire.
"How un-gentleman like of me to try the fair lady's patience, I'll take note not to do so in the future."
Nemesis followed up with a glare and a barrage of shots fired at the slower fuzor who had transformed to his beast form and was attempting to get away now.
"One of their aerial support is down for the count, that leaves three Maximals."

"Good work," Nemesis responded as she sped after Tigerhawk, fully prepared to ram him in order to knock him of the sky. He was returning fire, of course, but she was very fast and quite maneuverable in the air so she managed to avoid most of the incoming shots. And she could heal easily enough from the few that hit her. The pain was still there, of course, but this was nothing compared to what Megatron would put them through if they failed so she wasn't willing to give up. Not by a long shot.
"Nemesis, Inferno, I'm going to retrieve Terrorsaur then find Waspinator, seems like we could wrap this up quickly at the rate we're going."
"Do it," the avian female responded. It would surely not please Megatron to have them return without their own crew, despite how he may feel about certain crew members.

(ooc: Joint post is too long to post! I'll have to split it in two..)
"How considerate of you,"
Despite everything, Zodiac still maintained that cocky and egotistical attitude, as if nothing so far had bothered him, not even being recaptured and restrained. Optimus was beginning to think that maybe he had been built without a "humility" or "modest" chip. Or perhaps such qualities had even been extracted from him during all of the experiments that had been performed on him. In any case, Primal planned to keep up his overly confident conduct as well. May the best bot win.
"Don't mistake my desire for freedom as ungratefulness,"
The leader responded with a huff through his nose as he purposely exhaled loud enough for Zodiac to hear, almost like a smirk. Then he licked the scar across his mouth. Optimus was a little surprised with the renegade's cooperation so far, unbeknownst to him the deal Whitegrazer had made with Zodiac and where she had gone. He was certain he still had some tricks up his sleeves so Optimus remained diligent and on guard despite his calmer and cooler composure since the last time they were with each other at the snowy volcano.
"It wouldn't have been the first time you underestimated someone," "I figured I had nothing to lose by trying.
"True. But at least I'm a quick learner. After all, I can't afford to make the same mistakes over and over. ...There's too much at stake," he ended more thoughtfully than he had begun.
"I hope your powers of persuasions have evolved a bit from the torture you put me through last time we attempted to have this talk,"
"I'm not proud of what I did to you," Primal admitted with sincerity. "I do regret it...," he added as they began walking down the corridor toward the brig. "I was not myself... But I've had a change of spark, because if you can take as much pain as I endured under Megatron's callousness, or as much torture from the nanobot technology that was forced upon you and still find the strength in refusing to talk, then there's no point in resulting to more agony. No, I remembered most of my crew members are scientists, some of the best, and we've taken an entirely different approach to this situation that won't require any inflicted anguish or instruments of brutality at all."

His voice maintained that confident tone but he withheld any smile or smirk that would normally accommodate such an explanation, especially toward the likes of Zodiac. It seemed to be an endless battle of outwitting and outsmarting each other. Is this what it had all come down to? Just the two of them? If Optimus was one of the last ones, if not THE last one, for Zodiac to execute for being involved in his torment and creation, the Maximal Commander and his crew had proven to be quite the road block and adversary to the former shape shifter since no one else had succeeded in stopping him. But it was still mournful to think about Nexus Prime's demise and how Zodiac disguised himself as Primal.

Meanwhile, in the laboratory...
"I'll be there in a nanoclick,"
...Rhinox patiently waited for Aurora's arrival while he prepared the serum.
"Okay, let's do this,"
Glancing at the young Fuzor, Big Green nodded, and said, "I've already started the upload but the data might require some organizing and compiling to understand what we might have gathered."
Aurora nodded and made her way over to the computer where the data was compiling, showing up as codes on the screen as it did. The fuzor cast a quick glance at it as she started to realize just how massive this file transfer was going to be. Whatever was at that alien site, it was emitting some highly complex signals that would take some time to decipher. Perhaps they'd be better off enlisting some help, someone with intimate knowledge of the aliens and how they operated. Alas Aurora had to admit that she came to a loss as far as the Vok were concerned. They were so unique, so very different, that it was very difficult to wrap her mind around it all. She honestly didn't understand half of the things they were responsible for. Only that they tended to leave a lasting impression in those lives they had touched. Like Optimus.

Her thoughts drifted briefly to the wall in Optimus' chamber, now intricately decorated with symbols none of them could read. Or could they? Whitegrazer shared a past with these beings, so why hadn't she been able to translate at least some of the symbols? Unless, of course, she simply didn't want to.. That those symbols somehow had a dangerous message in them.. something Whitegrazer wanted to spare them all from.

The fuzor unknowingly brushed away the lock of white fur that always seemed to fall down into her face as she pondered this possibility for a moment before returning her attention to Rhinox.

"It doesn't help that we have such limited understanding of the Vok language and culture. But according to these readings, something at that alien site is creating a lot of energy. But it's too early to tell what it is, exactly."

She paused, only to smile briefly, encouragingly, at her larger companion. "It might be time to upgrade our computer systems soon to better be able to run compilations like this in the future."

Despite of his confident words, Zodiac's emotional state was in a little bit of turmoil. Fortunately he managed to hide it well as he walked, as best as he was able to with his ankles shackled together, only occasionally stumbling a bit before managing to catch himself a few times. At least Primal had the patience to let him walk on his own accord, unlike the trips he'd made with the guards back at the facility. If he didn't have the strength to walk properly after a session, they generally would simply haul him along at their own pace. So at least he wasn't that bad off, granted the situation could have been much better still.

He wondered about the white female, if she would truly go to the alien site like he had told her to.. and like she had promised. It seemed like a foolish idea to trust him that much, but then again.. She had a certain naivety about her that both frustrated him and delighted him at the same time. As things were, however, she seemed like his best option to get out of this predicament.

Then he pondered about the Vok emissary that Whitegrazer had told him was on his way. Was this creature in Maximal disguise truly after him and the items he'd stolen from the Vok? What would the Vok do when or if they found him? Certainly it couldn't be worse than what he'd already experienced.. No, that wasn't true. It could. It could be far worse indeed. There were simply no limits to how far the Vok were willing to go.

Finally he thought about the Maximals and Predacons on this planet who wanted him dead. Megatron would no doubt love to crush his spark if he could, and although Ironclaw seemed to have backed off for now Zodiac was certain that wasn't a permanent response. Rattrap, Landslide, even his former partner Nemesis were less than fond of him and would surely not object to him meeting his end. And of all beings, it was Optimus who stood between all of them and him. The irony of it all wasn't lost on Zodiac.

Primal seemed to slow down his pace for a moment while taking in the words the renegade had told him. He then spoke of how he'd learned from his mistakes. Zodiac shook his head at that. His foe might believe that but he had yet to see just how far this went. "Nexus once said something very similar..," Zodiac muttered as he turned his gaze away. "And look where it got him."
"I'm not proud of what I did to you,"
Of course not. But you did it anyway, Zodiac almost snapped back but he held his words at the last possible moment. For now.
"I do regret it...,"

Zodiac tilted his head as he briefly glanced at Primal and then past him, down the corridor to where the brig was.
And for the first time since they'd started this walk, Zodiac suddenly stopped in his tracks. In fact he stopped so quickly, his shackled legs almost tripped him. And then his gaze met Primal's again, trying to read his face. Those weren't empty promises.. So what was Primal up to now? Zodiac was familiar with torture. He'd endured it many.. many.. times. Yet Optimus' promise to use other methods puzzled him immensely. Was he truly going to try to persuade him to be honest out of the goodness of his spark? That could be amusing for sure.

Rhinox raised his crimson red optics in Aurora'a direction again, observing the puzzlement on her face.
"It doesn't help that we have such limited understanding of the Vok language and culture. But according to these readings, something at that alien site is creating a lot of energy. But it's too early to tell what it is, exactly."
He raised a golden brow in curiosity. "I wonder what it could be. We didn't physically see anything there," he pondered out loud, now wondering just how dangerous the site could be if there was an invisible force.
"It might be time to upgrade our computer systems soon to better be able to run compilations like this in the future."
"How so?" Rhinox asked as he walked over to her and observed the amount of data that had been uploading. His optics enlarged a little at the slow progress. "I see. So you're saying that I haven't been doing my best keeping up with our computer system and its speed. Well, I can take a hint," he said, pretending to be insulted and hurt by her implication. He gave her a smile to let her know he wasn't being serious even though she was right. "I wasn't expecting it to be such massive files of input." Although his face and head still ached from Zodiac's earlier attack, he was ready to help Optimus with Zodiac, so he grabbed the serum and held the syringe up to the light to thoughtfully examine the liquid inside. "Maybe Whitegrazer or Blackarachnia can help decipher the data. Or even Zodiac, but Optimus may want to keep him in the dark about our findings."

With every stumble Zodiac made, Primal's hand immediately went to his hip for his gun, grabbing the handle but never having to pull it off of his leg. He couldn't just assume that the black bot was innocently tripping over the energy bonds with no other ill intentions behind it. But, yes, Optimus was quite patient with his pace and never pushed, shoved or dragged him.
"Nexus once said something very similar..," "And look where it got him."
At first, Optimus was taken aback by his hurtful words before he felt sorrowful for Nexus once more, and then inevitably angry. But he failed to show any of these emotions as he walked along side of Zodiac. He refused to give him the satisfaction of knowing that he was getting to him because that's what he wanted, and all he had were his manipulative words. Just because Nexus failed, even though he was tricked, didn't mean Optimus was going to. He already made it this far, far past all of Zodiac's other tricks. "I think the same could be said for you. You've lost your ability to shape shift and heal on your own," he said to him as if he had stabbed Zodiac with a knife and slowly twisted the blade. "Because you couldn't stop yourself, someone else had to. Did you ever think it would be me?"

As they approached the brig, Optimus gave the accurate and extensive clearance measures to access it and the door opened.
"Just because we can't see something, doesn't mean it's not there. Sometimes we just have to look in a different direction," Aurora pointed out, once again sounding wise beyond her years. It was a peculiar trait of hers, one she had perhaps inherited from Nightmist. Of course Aurora had no clue about the similarities since Nightmist had perished before the fuzor came online.

She studied the data that was slowly compiling before pointing out a few strategic points where there seemed to be a bit more energy being redirected. "I think these might be defensive weapon systems," she mused, "Meant to protect this place. But protect it from what? Surely this site was here long before the Axalon and Darksyde ever crashed on this planet."

She paused, turning to look at Rhinox as he defended his work on the computer systems. Fortunately his smile proved he was only joking and hadn't actually taken offense to her words. "You know what I mean..," she said after briefly sticking her tongue out. "This alien technology is well beyond anything the Cybertronians have mastered thus far. " Taking a moment to reflect on Rhinox' thoughts on how some of the others could potentially help, Aurora scratched her head a bit before answering. "So our choices are a former Vok who hasn't been in contact with them for.. who knows how long.. a sneaky spider.. and someone who tried to kill us all? Yeah.. I think my choice goes with Whitegrazer. Any idea where she's at? Still talking to Optimus?"

Zodiac sent a few passing glances at Optimus, curious to see if his words had hit a nerve. Well, deep down he knew the answer. He knew quite well that Optimus had looked up to Nexus like a father figure and that the aging fool had shared similar feelings towards his young apprentice. It had been quite obvious to anyone who had worked with the two, who had seen how Nexus attempted to protect his protege and to a surprising degree had been successful. It had been obvious in the looks Primal had sent Nexus Prime after he had arrived on Earth, as well as the way he sought advice and guidance from him, in the way he was willing to put all his Maximals at risk to expose one of them while following Nexus' advice.. but most of all it had been obvious in the way Primal's expression had changed when he finally realized that it hadn't been the long lost admiral that had arrived but instead someone vastly different.

Remembering that look of utter shock and betrayal on Primal's face, it hadn't been unlike the way Nexus looked when he thought Primal had betrayed him. But whereas Primal had responded with anger, Nexus had done nothing of the sort. He'd merely tried, and failed, at reasoning with his former pupil's clone. A desperate act, ultimately futile, but it had proved just how unwilling the admiral had been to ever harm his son.

And Zodiac hated him even more for it.

But surprisingly Primal's face was set in stone, not revealing anything about the turmoil he undoubtedly was experiencing. How disappointing.

Instead he was about to retaliate, further proving that he was no longer that weakling that Zodiac knew him as before.
"I think the same could be said for you. You've lost your ability to shape shift and heal on your own,"

He tried. Oh how he tried not to let those spiteful words get to him. But the wound was still too fresh, too raw. Zodiac made a slight grimace and looked away, instead focusing his gaze on the floor as they passed through the familiar door of the brig. The first time the renegade had been here, he'd been disguised as Primal himself. It was only a few weeks ago but still felt like an eternity now.

"Not my finest hour, I admit,"
the former shapeshifter finally admitted, his voice strained from holding back the words he truly wished to tell his foe.
"Because you couldn't stop yourself, someone else had to. Did you ever think it would be me?"
Zodiac slowly shook his head. He truly hadn't even considered this outcome. Not now. Not ever.
"Just because we can't see something, doesn't mean it's not there. Sometimes we just have to look in a different direction,"
Rhinox stopped what he was doing and looked at Aurora, impressed by her words and understanding things of a bigger picture. Another small smile appeared on his face and nodded. "That's true. We'll have to go back and investigate some more, but we'll have to be extremely cautious."

"I think these might be defensive weapon systems," "Meant to protect this place. But protect it from what? Surely this site was here long before the Axalon and Darksyde ever crashed on this planet."
The engineer sighed and slightly shook his head. "Not what, who. We just seem to find more questions that lead to more questions instead of answers. But I believe this whole conundrum goes much farther and deeper than we know. And if they are defensive weapons, then we're going to have to be even more careful." He scratched the back of his head for a moment as he looked at the screen to see what she was talking about.
"You know what I mean..," "This alien technology is well beyond anything the Cybertronians have mastered thus far."
Rhinox thoughtfully caressed his wide chin with his free hand. "Sounds like a challenge."
"So our choices are a former Vok who hasn't been in contact with them for.. who knows how long.. a sneaky spider.. and someone who tried to kill us all? Yeah.. I think my choice goes with Whitegrazer. Any idea where she's at? Still talking to Optimus?"
Big Green gave a chuckle. "The more we have working on deciphering this, the better chances we have of learning and interpreting it correctly and quickly. As for Whitegrazer, I don't think she's with Optimus right now since he's escorting Zodiac to the brig. Try her comm. link. I need to get myself and this serum over there pronto." Patting her shoulder gently, Rhinox walked out of the lab and left Aurora there to assess the rest of the data.

Optimus took notice of Zodiac's reaction to his words. He could have smirked or laughed, anything to shame him further, but he did none of those. He was just satisfied to know that the renegade wasn't as stoic and incapable of being hurt by words as he previous thought.
"Not my finest hour, I admit,"
"Your 'finest hours' are likely to be someone else's worst nightmares," the Maximal leader retorted as he lead Zodiac to a chair in a cell, motioning him to sit. Seeing him shake his head to his question made Optimus realize the same thing; he would have never expected to come this far with Zodiac. Yet here they were. "Have a seat," he told him.

Zodiac allowed himself to smile ever so slightly at Primal's remark about his past experiences, finding at least a small sense of amusement in the remark. "Kind of goes with the job," Zodiac replied as they arrived at the cell. Stopping to glance inside, taking note of how barren his new assigned home was, the smile faded quickly enough. It had a bunk to rest on and a couple of chair brought there for the occasion. The renegade hesitated for a moment, taking in every inch of the cell with his optics before even setting foot inside.

"Cozy..," he eventually remarked sarcastically. Had his arms and legs not been shackled, he would probably have darted right then and there. What was taking Whitegrazer so long??

Slowly he stepped inside, his wings dragging on the floor as he did.
"Have a seat,"
Optimus sounded a bit impatient. That by itself certainly didn't bother the renegade in the least and he made no attempt to move for a few nanoclicks while he finished scanning his surroundings, looking for weaknesses in the structure and possible ways to escape. He wasn't even trying to hide his intent to do so and was quite bluntly ignoring Primal's request until he saw it fit to abide by it.

I know you don't want to be there, Zodiac. Just don't make it harder on yourself. Remember the deal... I haven't forgotten what I promised you.

Whitegrazer's sudden response after having remained quiet for so long almost startled him a bit initially.

Yes yes.. I'll stay out of trouble, he assured her via their link. I have as much to lose as anyone else, perhaps even more..

He was very careful with selecting the words he used to reassure her, knowing she seemed to pick up on his lies easily enough. It was frustrating that she could hold that kind of power over him. But for how long remained to be seen..
I'm at the site, Zodiac.

Finally!

Zodiac could barely contain his relief to hear the last message, and only then did he sit down in the chair like Primal had requested. After all.. now he had something to bargain with. The life of Primal's love and confidant.
"Kind of goes with the job,"
While that was true, Optimus also meant all of the innocent lives he took and the murders he continued to perform after his escape, leaving a trail of fluids and empty shells that all lead to him.
"Cozy..,"
"Could be worse," Primal told him bluntly. "You could be melting in lava at the bottom of the volcano, or imprisoned by the Vok, or dying at the hands of Megatron and Nemesis." He watched Zodiac take in his surroundings, no doubt looking for any means and of escape and hesitating to sit down, which was probably just trying his patience. Good luck with that.

When Zodiac finally sat down in the chair, as though he had been waiting for something, Optimus stood in front of him with his arms crossed over his chest and licked the scar over his lips. "You get one chance to be honest. Waste the opportunity and my hand will be forced."

It was then when Rhinox entered the brig and approached the cell with Optimus and Zodiac inside, hiding the syringe behind his back for now.
"That's true. We'll have to go back and investigate some more, but we'll have to be extremely cautious."
"Perhaps we can use drones for the initial encounter," Aurora suggested, already busy analyzing more of the data stream. It was most fascinating, really, even though she couldn't understand exactly what she was looking at just yet. But much like Rhinox, she was a scientist by spark. The prospect of exploration was quite the thrill for her.
"Not what, who. We just seem to find more questions that lead to more questions instead of answers. But I believe this whole conundrum goes much farther and deeper than we know. And if they are defensive weapons, then we're going to have to be even more careful."
The fuzor looked up from the data stream for a moment, a bit confused by Rhinox' words. How could they be talking about a who when dealing with an ancient alien culture and their structures? How did these aliens even know to put so much effort into their structures on what to them should have seemed like a primitive world?

"It's only an assumption about those things being weapons.. Based on their locations and their energy requirement. They're definitely powered on," she corrected herself. Where was this site getting power from, she wondered silently, and how long had it been active like this? And most importantly.. what was its intended purpose??
"Sounds like a challenge."
Aurora smiled at that remark, a bright, hopeful, and genuine smile. There was so much more to Rhinox than just the boring lab tech many of their fellow Maximals saw him as.
"The more we have working on deciphering this, the better chances we have of learning and interpreting it correctly and quickly. As for Whitegrazer, I don't think she's with Optimus right now since he's escorting Zodiac to the brig. Try her comm. link. I need to get myself and this serum over there pronto."
The fuzor nodded as she picked up a data pad and stepped away from the computer.

"Okay, I'll try to get a hold of her," she promised as Rhinox left the room.
"Could be worse. You could be melting in lava at the bottom of the volcano, or imprisoned by the Vok, or dying at the hands of Megatron and Nemesis."
"I could also be enjoying some extra strong energon in a bar while being waited on by a beautiful waitress," came the response. Oh the joys of a free life had mostly been nothing but stories the former shapeshifter had heard from his guards. Yes, he realized there were far worse fates that could be awaiting him. In fact he was still trying to avoid several of them.

He leaned forward in the chair, folding his cuffed hands in his lap as he spoke. Approaching footsteps alerted him that they were no longer alone, but it was hardly a surprise when Rhinox appeared in the doorway. Zodiac glanced over at the bulkier male, a slight gleam in his optics as he noted the other male had still not been repaired for his facial injuries. He wanted to make a snippy remark about them but decided to keep a low profile. For now. They'd learn his cards soon enough.
"You get one chance to be honest. Waste the opportunity and my hand will be forced."
Tilting his head a bit, the renegade shrugged and spread his hands apart as far as the cuffs would allow in a gesture of innocence.

"Very well. So what is it you so desperately want to know, hmm? How can I enlighten you and satisfy your curiosity?"

His words, innocent as they might have seemed, were dripping with contempt, almost sounding challenging.
"I could also be enjoying some extra strong energon in a bar while being waited on by a beautiful waitress,"
"You could have been, instead you chose to track me down and waste your time, letting your personal vendetta get the better of you," Optimus said bluntly. He glanced at Rhinox over his shoulder as he entered and gave a dismissive wave with his hand, motioning him to wait.

Rhinox complied and stood there quietly, observing.
"Very well. So what is it you so desperately want to know, hmm? How can I enlighten you and satisfy your curiosity?"
Where to start. Optimus had so many questions but probably not a lot of time. Rattrap hadn't checked in lately about their progress with Tigerhawk, which left him a little concerned. "Besides my involvement in your experiments, is there another reason why you resent me? Is there something else that fuels your hatred toward me?" Whitegrazer had indicated once about Zodiac envying his relationship with Nexus, a father-son relationship he never had. Primal presumed she gathered this truthfully and accurately from Zodiac through her connection to him, after all he had no reason not to believe her, other than her background being of Vok now that he knew about that as well, so his answer should be interesting if he gives an answer at all.
"You could have been, instead you chose to track me down and waste your time, letting your personal vendetta get the better of you,"
"Vendetta.."

Zodiac repeated the word as if sampling it, finding it to be quite the simple description for a much more complex history. Although Primal's words held truth to them. The renegade had taken a gamble to come here to this planet, but unfortunately it turned out the hand he was playing hadn't been enough. And he had lost more than he had ever imagined he could because of it. Still.. he was alive.. a prisoner perhaps but still alive.. And if there was one thing he couldn't do, it was to allow himself to give up. Perhaps he wouldn't be able to deal with these Maximals himself, but with any luck he could at least get his powers back and get away from this place before the aliens came to deal with the Maximals as they would surely do to him if they were to catch him again.

"I suppose you're right," Zodiac finally said after a lengthy pause while staring blankly in front of him before he settled his gaze on Primal once more. "Is that what you want to hear? Or should I add some pleading to my response?"

The corner of his mouth twitched a bit, as if he was about send Primal a grimace. But he stopped himself as he saw Rhinox ready to enter the room. Why was he there anyway? It was true the green and brown Maximal threw a mean punch, but Optimus had made it clear he had no intention of using physical punishment to keep the former shapeshifter in line. Thus making Rhinox' appearance a bit of a mystery.. And surely nothing to worry about. So for now Zodiac kept up his defiance, hoping to wear Primal down while still maintaining what little he had left of his own dignity.
"Besides my involvement in your experiments, is there another reason why you resent me? Is there something else that fuels your hatred toward me?"
The trace of a smile disappeared before Primal even had a chance to finish his sentence. For no matter how much the renegade thought he was prepared for any question the Maximal could throw at him, the one that he asked hit too close for comfort. Zodiac cocked his head ever so slightly, pondering how to respond to a question he couldn't fully answer himself even. Couldn't.. or wouldn't.. Sometimes the lines between the two got a little blurred, especially for someone who'd spent his life pretending to be someone else.

He hated Primal.. Right now almost more than usual. Much like he had wished him dead whenever Nexus Prime stood by him, always protecting his protege, always respecting him and placing great trust in him.. And value. It was a life most foreign to the renegade, a life he'd never even dared to imagine having. Yet Primal's question irked him. Much more so than it should have. But Zodiac had always told himself that he was better, more deserving of greatness. After all his technology outmatched anything the Maximals had at their disposal. Even Optimus.

After staring at the other male for close to a nanoclick, the renegade finally sighed. "Isn't that enough?"

Just then Aurora's transmission patched through to the intercom system in the brig. "Sorry to bother you, but I'm getting a little worried. I tried to contact Whitegrazer but I can't get through to her. She's not at the Axalon. In fact we can't pick up her signal anywhere!"

And just then Zodiac's poker face cracked as he was unable to hold back the mischievous grin any longer.
"Vendetta.."
The TransMetal gorilla in robot mode remained patient with his adversary while he seemed thoughtful with the word. Simplistic and vague or not, he didn't care how he described his history and current predicament, and he hoped his carelessness for it and unwilling to give it any credit would irk him.
"I suppose you're right," "Is that what you want to hear? Or should I add some pleading to my response?"
"I don't need to be convinced of your mistakes, or to know if I was right or wrong," Primal told him as he cupped his hands behind his back and motioned Rhinox to approach them with a hand signal and without looking at him. He kept his blank expression on Zodiac.

Noticing his friend's signal, Rhinox walked over to them and came up behind Optimus as he passed the syringe into his hands where Zodiac couldn't see. It didn't matter if he knew they were up to something, he just couldn't see what. As Primal took the serum while still keeping his hands behind him, Rhinox stepped around his leader and walked over to Zodiac and around the chair he was sitting in so that he was standing behind the hybrid but facing Optimus.
"Isn't that enough?"
"Wrong answer," Primal simply replied and nodded to Rhinox.

The engineer grabbed Zodiac's upper arms and pulled him backwards against the back of the chair to keep him from jumping off and trapping his wings so he couldn't spread them.

"You might feel a little sting,"
Optimus warned Zodiac as if he was a child receiving his first shot. He took out the syringe and wasted no time of jabbing it into his upper leg on top of his thigh, immediately injecting the truth serum and then pulling the needle-like instrument out of his armor. "We'll give it a few moments to work," he said, staring at Zodiac as he stepped out of his leg's reach in case he would try to kick him.

Rhinox, meanwhile kept his tight grip on him, ignoring his own throbbing face.
"Sorry to bother you, but I'm getting a little worried. I tried to contact Whitegrazer but I can't get through to her. She's not at the Axalon. In fact we can't pick up her signal anywhere!"
Upon hearing Aurora's concerns, Optimus gave Rhinox a quizzical look but the rhinoceros only shrugged slightly, unsure of where Whitegrazer could be. Understanding his old friend's expression, Primal's orange optics lowered to Zodiac's devious grin, as if he knew something. And it was probably something that he wasn't going to like. But what could he have possibly done while Optimus was holding him as his prisoner this whole time?

"I'll try to contact her, Aurora," he sent her over his comm. link.

"Whitegrazer, what is your current location?"
he demanded from the mare while he searched for her through their bond. But her presence was distant and he couldn't pin point her position like she could with others.

"Zodiac, you seem like you're about to burst with information that you'd enjoy throwing in my face. Why don't you share it with us?" the Maximal Commander dared him, not that he would have a choice now anyway.
"I don't need to be convinced of your mistakes, or to know if I was right or wrong,"
Mistake? Zodiac shook his head ever so briefly at the accusing tone. The plan had been sound, at least initially. His mistake had been to let his guard down, and not to rid himself of someone he had failed to see as a real threat to his operation. But his original intent for coming here was no mistake. And now Optimus was trying to break his spirit, as was generally the first step of an interrogation. Zodiac would know.. he'd been through enough of them.

"Of course not. You're the great Optimus Primal after all, and you've never made mistakes."

Try as he might to make his bitter and sarcastic words throw Primal off, the outcome was quite different than what he'd been hoping for. The Maximal leader's expression remained strangely blank, impossible to read, which was unusual for someone normally so fueled by emotions. Clearly Primal had learned from their earlier encounters.

He turned his head as Optimus started moving, his hands folded behind his back as he walked. The renegade followed the movements with his optics, his suspicions only growing as Rhinox came closer as well.
"Wrong answer,"
The renegade was about to shrug but the approaching Maximals gave him the sense that something was seriously wrong. He twisted as far as he could in the chair to see what they were doing. Taking note of how Rhinox was now moving in behind him, Zodiac's senses remained on high alert. He made one futile attempt to stand up, only for the chief mechanic to grab him by the arms and pulling him back against the chair.

By this point, the transmetal dragon was getting more than a little unsettled. He slammed his head back in an attempt to knock Rhinox away but then froze as Optimus approached him.. while holding something in his hand.
"You might feel a little sting,"
What? They were honestly going to try to drug him again? How many times were they going to try this? And for that sake, what was the purpose of putting him to sleep now? They wouldn't get any of the answers they craved if he wasn't awake to give them!

Primal pierced his armor with the injector, causing Zodiac to jerk to move away. But with Rhinox pinning him to the chair, he couldn't get very far. He grimaced a bit as the content of the syringe was emptied into him. It burned a little, but not nearly as badly as the last time Primal had injected something into him.. back when he'd lost control of his powers. The renegade let out a sigh, allowing his tense muscles to relax a bit as Primal stepped back. Oddly enough he didn't feel sleepy, just.. calmer. Had they just given him a mild sedative?
"We'll give it a few moments to work,"
"This game is getting old, Primal..," Zodiac said, curious what they were hoping to achieve.

Fortunately the little fuzor's message cheered him up quite a bit, bringing about a grin once more as she delivered the message that Whitegrazer had vanished. Oh this was going to be fun.
"I'll try to contact her, Aurora,"
"I hope you have better luck than I've been having," the fuzor responded, the concern obvious in her voice.

Optimus then turned his attention to Zodiac, taking note of the grin on his face.
"Zodiac, you seem like you're about to burst with information that you'd enjoy throwing in my face. Why don't you share it with us?"
Oh please.. Did the fool honestly think he would break so easily, without as much as a few mind games? If so the Maximal commander was sorely mistaken.

What makes you think I know where to find your telepathic friend?, Zodiac thought as he formulated the words in his head.

"It's quite funny, really. Your friend has wandered off to the alien site, not realizing the trouble she's walking into. Oh and don't bother trying to contact her. The communication won't work now that she's inside."

Wait..what?!
"Of course not. You're the great Optimus Primal after all, and you've never made mistakes."
"I'm not talking about me," Primal nearly chuckled at Zodiac and his attempt to turn this interrogation around and make Optimus pity himself. "I am far from perfect," he freely admitted without much emotion.

He could see the smugness still clinging to the former shape shifter until the commanding officer had brought forth the syringe. But even then Zodiac was still underestimating their abilities and their plan to get what Optimus wanted.
"This game is getting old, Primal..,
"Trust me, Zodiac, this is no game." He watched him jump a little in a futile attempt to escape but Rhinox did good holding him down and keeping him in control. There weren't many bots who could defy the rhinoceros' brute strength.
"I hope you have better luck than I've been having,"
A small frown of concern crossed Primal's face after Aurora said that. After all, why would Whitegrazer ignore Aurora but not Optimus? He had a feeling she was going to ignore him, too. Perhaps "ignore" was the wrong word, though... "She might be out of range, Aurora," he presumed. It wouldn't be the first time the Empath, or rather the Vok, had run off on her own. Wait a cycle... The Vok. Could she have...? No, she wouldn't have without saying something. Primal's thoughts were quickly interrupted by Zodiac's next response that even surprised himself. A brief moment of realizing that the serum was working showed on the Maximal's face with Rhinox also giving a nod of acknowledgement to Optimus.
"It's quite funny, really. Your friend has wandered off to the alien site, not realizing the trouble she's walking into. Oh and don't bother trying to contact her. The communication won't work now that she's inside."
Optimus quickly cleansed his face to a blank expression again, other than a small tug of a smile at the corner of his mouth. Licking his scar he came to the realization of how much danger Whitegrazer might be getting herself into. "What did you tell her?" he demanded from the black dragon with an aggravated and serious tone, unaware of the grave situation.

Whitegrazer, are you at the alien site? Can you hear me? Whitegrazer, answer me!" he tried reaching out to her through their connection despite Zodiac saying that she could no longer be contacted.
Zodiac's grin slowly faded and he turned his gaze away as the words he had just spoken repeated in his mind. Why had he just told them that? What had they injected him with?
"I'm not talking about me,"
The half-breed nodded slowly, thinking to himself. Well, tried to anyway. For some reason his thoughts felt heavy.. like his mind was clogged up, and he felt compelled to verbalize those thoughts.

"You still don't get it, do you? It's always been about you. Or do you honestly believe this all happened by chance? That it was an accident you were selected to lead the Axalon's mission? That the Vok targeted you?"

Realizing he'd spoken the words, albeit quietly, Zodiac moved his forehead against his cuffed hands. This had to stop..

That drug.. it hadn't been a sedative.. but some sort of truth serum. Just great..
"Trust me, Zodiac, this is no game."
"I'm starting to see that now," Zodiac responded, no longer able to filter his words like he normally did such a good job of.
"She might be out of range, Aurora,"
The fuzor was no fool. And since Whitegrazer had revealed her true heritage to her and Rhinox, she questioned exactly where the white mare would go. But she didn't say anything more about it, not until she had exhausted her options of locating the missing female. But unfortunately she was getting close to that point.

Zodiac finally glanced over at Primal without moving his hands away from his forehead when the Commander addressed him again.
"What did you tell her?"
"I told her the truth.. Well.. the only truth I could to make her go there. You see.. the alien site is very much so active. And it hosts possibilities and dangers far worse than anything your feeble mind can comprehend or have experienced thus far."

He rubbed his forehead briefly with his shackled hands, trying to clear his mind enough to stop himself from talking.

Rhinox had loosened his grip on Zodiac enough to allow him to move a little more freely with his arms and restrained wrists. But he remained behind him.
"You still don't get it, do you? It's always been about you. Or do you honestly believe this all happened by chance? That it was an accident you were selected to lead the Axalon's mission? That the Vok targeted you?"
Both Optimus and Rhinox looked at each other because what Zodiac just said only confirmed even more of their suspicions. But they still didn't understand why. Why them? Why Optimus? If he was a threat, then why was he one to anybody? He left Cybertron young, inexperienced and naive; there wasn't much to label him as a threat. Why send him away on a doomed mission to a trap back in time on prehistoric Earth? And why put all of his Maximals in danger? It was incomprehensible.

"I've had my suspicions the longer we're stranded here, but perhaps you'd like to enlighten me. Why me? Why was my crew put in jeopardy? Were they just considered collateral damage?" That would have angered him deeply.
"I'm starting to see that now," "I told her the truth.. Well.. the only truth I could to make her go there. You see.. the alien site is very much so active. And it hosts possibilities and dangers far worse than anything your feeble mind can comprehend or have experienced thus far."
One thing Optimus didn't consider about this truth serum is the words Zodiac would use to describe how he really felt about the Maximal standing before him. Nevertheless, he didn't let them get to him. "What kind of possibilities and dangers?" he asked him demandingly.

Zodiac shook his head slightly, as if trying to shake the serum out of his head. But it was useless, his thoughts remained clouded and for the world to hear. And it certainly didn't make matters better that the large buffoon was still standing right behind him, his hands wrapped around Zodiac's forearms and preventing him from moving his arms much even if he had loosened his grip a bit.

Annoyed, Zodiac glanced behind him to send Rhinox a warning glare. "Let.. go." It was no request. In fact he sounded quite annoyed right about now, and rightfully so. He was certainly not having the time of his life at this very moment.
"I've had my suspicions the longer we're stranded here, but perhaps you'd like to enlighten me. Why me? Why was my crew put in jeopardy? Were they just considered collateral damage?"
"They picked you because they knew it would get to Nexus if they did.. They needed someone who could keep Nexus in line as his popularity grew to the point where he was starting to pose a threat to them," Zodiac responded most unwillingly. "He had started drifting away from the policies the Elders set forth.. He wanted a change.. They couldn't allow him to disrupt their claim to power."

The renegade shifted uncomfortably in the chair as he continued, unable to fight the effects of the serum.

"Your crew means nothing to them. You've made yourself a family consisting of misfits and others deemed unworthy or not trustworthy enough to work for the Elders.."

He paused as he lowered his gaze to a point on the floor in front of him, finding himself wishing he could sink through the floor. Of course Primal wasn't going to let this go.
"What kind of possibilities and dangers?"
"It should hardly come as a surprise to you that the alien site is another weapon.. Only this one is much more powerful than the one in the volcano. The Vok took notice of that little fiasco, rest assured."
"Wintersong, this is Optimus. Landslide is on his way to assist Rattrap, so I need you to intercept Whitegrazer back at the alien site and delay her intentions, whatever they may be. She's not responding to our transmissions. Please be careful. If it's activated... It could be extremely dangerous," he sent the tigress with concern in his voice.
"Let.. go."
"No," Rhinox told Zodiac. "You're fine if you sit still and relax."
"They picked you because they knew it would get to Nexus if they did.. They needed someone who could keep Nexus in line as his popularity grew to the point where he was starting to pose a threat to them," "He had started drifting away from the policies the Elders set forth.. He wanted a change.. They couldn't allow him to disrupt their claim to power."
Primal's gaze lowered thoughtfully for a moment before returning his attention to Zodiac. "You allegedly disguised yourself as me and murdered Nexus despite his 'uprising' against the Council. Was that personal for what he did to you, or was it the Council's wishes using you to be rid of him?" he inquired. It was a touchy subject for Optimus, of course, but he needed to know, and he wanted to be informed. They couldn't do much from where they were stranded on Earth in the past, but they could do all the thinking and pondering they wanted in search of answers.
"Your crew means nothing to them. You've made yourself a family consisting of misfits and others deemed unworthy or not trustworthy enough to work for the Elders.."
The leader's orange optics narrowed into a glare, he balled his fists, and licked the scar across his mouth. His breathing increased but he quickly tried cooling his systems because working him up over hurtful and untrue words was exactly what Zodiac wanted to do. "Whether that's your opinion, the Elders', or others', you were all wrong about them," he said calmly, standing by his crew.
"It should hardly come as a surprise to you that the alien site is another weapon.. Only this one is much more powerful than the one in the volcano. The Vok took notice of that little fiasco, rest assured."
"No thanks to you," Optimus added. "I guess we're about to find out what's in store for all of us." Not that he was looking forward to it. It terrified him because the Vok were so powerful, mysterious, and merciless. But, like most commanding officers, he hid his fear quite well. However, he was deeply concerned for Whitegrazer's wellbeing and possibly Wintersong'a since he had just sent her to interfere. "So, the technology for your nanobots was derived from the Vok. Are you also a target for them? A loose end that needs to be tied?"

Zodiac only made the occasional jerks with his arms in an effort to see if Rhinox had released his grip enough that he'd be able to pull them free, but he didn't really fight back as much as he probably could have. Instead he chose to conserve his energy, waiting for an opportunity to fight back. Which wasn't really much of an option in the position he was in now.. pinned against the back of the chair with his arms bent in a raised position that at least allowed him to rest his forehead against them. At least this prevented them from getting a good look at his face. It was the only shelter he had right now since his words were betraying him, the only thing preventing his innermost thoughts and emotions from being on full display.

Oh how he hated Primal right now. Not that he had ever harbored any favorable feelings for the Maximal, but with as much as they had taken from him.. his powers.. crew.. dignity.. freedom.. at least he had been able to keep his secrets until now. And when they took that away too, leaving him utterly exposed, his growing resentment and hate was really all that was left.
"No," "You're fine if you sit still and relax."
Tensing up a bit upon hearing the mechanic's words, Zodiac huffed out his response.

"What are you so afraid of? I'm already in restraints and locked up in the brig. Although it's flattering you think of me as a threat still, this is hardly comfortable."

As Primal started talking again, Zodiac's optics drifted to his general direction again and he sat a little straighter in the chair.
"You allegedly disguised yourself as me and murdered Nexus despite his 'uprising' against the Council. Was that personal for what he did to you, or was it the Council's wishes using you to be rid of him?"
"Which council?," Zodiac responded after letting out a low, humorless chuckle. "Nexus was not short of enemies, whether they were made on the battlefield or with politics. The Maximal Council of Elders weren't fond of him, that much is true, but despite his growing popularity they didn't dare to attack him openly. It would have launched a war between the followers of Nexus Prime and the Council's own people had they done that. Fortunately the Tripredacus Council weren't as cowardly.."

He paused ever so slightly, hesitating a bit due to the nature of the secrets he was exposing to his enemy. Of course he didn't have a choice in the matter, as the truth serum compelled him to answer truthfully.

"But no.. The Tripredacus Council felt that Nexus would have been more valuable to them alive." His voice quieted substantially and he lowered his gaze to the floor again before he finally added; "It was personal.."
"Whether that's your opinion, the Elders', or others', you were all wrong about them,"
Zodiac remained quiet for a short while before he finally shrugged.

"Am I? Although I must admit that I am a bit surprised you haven't lead them into oblivion yet but given time I'm sure the rest of them will follow the example of those you've already lost.."

He slowly raised his gaze again, turning his piercing optics to Optimus once more.

"Nightmist.. Valkyrie.. Icebreaker.. not to mention the ones that have disappeared, their whereabouts unknown."

A trace of a smile forming on his face as he revealed that he had memorized Primal's roster while preparing for this mission.

"Do you honestly think you can save them? That you can spare them from the dangers that await them? The Predacons, the Vok, internal conflict among the Maximals themselves.." He fell silent for a moment, his smile widening ever so slightly. "Project X..?"

He left the words dangling in the air for a moment. Perhaps he wasn't able to lie, but that didn't mean he couldn't use the truth to hurt his foe.
"No thanks to you,"
"I never proclaimed to be innocent," came the abrupt response, "And clearly you've been keeping harmful secrets as well."
"I guess we're about to find out what's in store for all of us."
His smile faded soon after Primal said those words, the severity of the situation coming back to the renegade. Primal was right about one thing.. The vok would certainly not spare the renegade.. or any of them.

"So, the technology for your nanobots was derived from the Vok. Are you also a target for them? A loose end that needs to be tied?"
A slow confirming nod followed.

"I am," he admitted grudgingly. "They're not exactly keen on my continued existence."
"What are you so afraid of? I'm already in restraints and locked up in the brig. Although it's flattering you think of me as a threat still, this is hardly comfortable."
"I'm quite comfortable in knowing you can't make a move without me knowing about it," the engineer answered him, not caring much for their enemy's discomfort.
"Which council?,"
Optimus was certain Zodiac knew which Council he was referring to, the Maximal Elders, but he refrained himself from answering since it seemed as though Zodiac knew something about both the High and Tripredacus Councils.
"Of course. They just keeping hiring others to do their dirty work so assassinations are covered up and they can wipe their hands clean." Primal shook his head in disgust. "Just like Ironclaw was sent to exterminate you and your crew, and I was sent to chase Megatron and entrusted in another mission to clean up one of their other messes." He refused to volunteer any more information than that. Besides, it was unlikely to be of any interest to Zodiac. Actually, it would just be one more thing for him to use against Optimus. Then again, maybe Zodiac already knew about Protoform X, if he could have made anyone talk before he killed them or simply stole information.
"But no.. The Tripredacus Council felt that Nexus would have been more valuable to them alive." "It was personal.."
Optimus lifted his chin a little with a slight sneer crossing his face. His beloved mentor and father-figure was killed by the very bot before him; someone who Primal could easily execute himself at this moment. ...But that would go against his nature and everything he stood for. He had to be merciful and allow this murderer, or "vigilante" as Zodiac probably saw himself, to stay alive no matter what even though he had taken everything from him. Nothing could bring Nexus back after all, and no one could tell Nexus that it wasn't Optimus who took his life... He was long gone, never to be seen or heard from again. Lost in the Matrix.
"Am I? Although I must admit that I am a bit surprised you haven't lead them into oblivion yet but given time I'm sure the rest of them will follow the example of those you've already lost.." "Nightmist.. Valkyrie.. Icebreaker.. not to mention the ones that have disappeared, their whereabouts unknown."
Primal's face couldn't help but soften when Zodiac listed the names of those he had lost under his command. A lot of sorrow and sadness filled inside of him and he glanced away from the renegade for a moment to recollect his thoughts and emotions. I miss them dearly... Everyone underestimated us, he concluded to himself, sending a glare to Zodiac's smug smile and complete lack of empathy. He was a little taken aback by how he knew all of their names until he recalled how he infiltrated the Axalon's computer system as well as Sentinel, or even if he had acquired their profiles or names prior to him leaving home. "You forget that we left Cybertron as an exploration crew. Nothing could have prepared me for this war."
"Do you honestly think you can save them? That you can spare them from the dangers that await them? The Predacons, the Vok, internal conflict among the Maximals themselves.."
"I'm willing to try. I've already died once for them and this planet, and I would do it again. I won't stop," Primal said defiantly against Zodiac's words that were no doubt meant to tear down him and his confidence in his own leadership. But he knew better by now. He was not a failure. They've come too far to give up.
"Project X..?"
So he did know about X. Not surprising. What shocked him more was that he never told the others about his other dark secret. Why? Unfortunately, Optimus still didn't have a plan for X, assuming he was alive or in stasis lock somewhere on Earth. What could he do since they couldn't track him down?
"I never proclaimed to be innocent," "And clearly you've been keeping harmful secrets as well."
"It's not about innocence, Zodiac. It's about you alerting the Vok that we were still in existence because of you're obsession to terminate me even when you're obviously afraid of them, too. Was it worth the risk?" he asked more rhetorically than expecting an actual answer. "Yes, I have my skeletons, but I'm not the one being questioned here," he reminded him.
"I am," "They're not exactly keen on my continued existence."

"That's one thing we have in common...,"
the Maximal leader admitted. "Why are they intent on harming you?"
"I'm quite comfortable in knowing you can't make a move without me knowing about it,"
Zodiac glanced back at Rhinox behind him, observing the injuries still very much so visible on the engineer's face as best he could from the awkward angle he was sitting at. He made one last, but futile, attempt at shoving his shoulder against Rhinox' arms in an effort to get at least a little more playroom so that he could perhaps get his chains around one of their necks and choke them until the other agreed to release him. Or he could simply do it for the fun of it. But as enjoyable as that would be, he really couldn't move enough to even hope to get to that point.

"Such bitterness.. Is it because I rearranged your face?," he asked in a mocking tone before settling down. Yes, he was perfectly capable of pushing back, but he was also aware that the Maximals had the upper hand right now.
"Of course. They just keeping hiring others to do their dirty work so assassinations are covered up and they can wipe their hands clean."

The renegade shrugged at that. Although his head had started clearing up a bit, he still wasn't able to fight the effects of the serum in his system.

"The Tripredacus Council consists of a bunch of fools too stuck in the past to focus on improving the future," he added with brutal honesty. "If left to their own merits, they'll never achieve anything.."

He owed the Council no loyalty. They weren't behind his creation, not directly anyway.. There were others with far greater ambitions out there than the Council. In fact part of him was a bit surprised that Megatron hadn't noticed the similarities in the former shapeshifter's alternative mode and that of his own teacher.. Cryotek. Although the warlord had been but one of the ones behind the idea of using alien technology implemented with Cybertronians to form a new type of soldier, he had been heavily involved in the process and Zodiac's alternative mode had been modeled, at least in part, after his own. That, of course, was as far as the similarities between the two went. But even though he had the power to make his form whatever he wanted, Zodiac respected Cryotek enough to leave the alternative mode the way it was.
"Just like Ironclaw was sent to exterminate you and your crew, and I was sent to chase Megatron and entrusted in another mission to clean up one of their other messes."

Zodiac settled his iridescent optics on Primal for a moment before quickly inclining his head when Primal mentioned Ironclaw and the fate of his own crew and nearly himself. Most importantly himself. The Commander had just given him a harsh reminder that he was now in control of the pretender's life.

"Reduced to the clean-up crew.. I wish I'd been present to see Nexus' reaction when he found out."

But the words that came out weren't nearly as spiteful as intended. His voice grew just a tad quieter. Through the corner of his optic he noticed the sneer and it did bring about a very faint smile but it didn't delight him as much as it normally would.
"You forget that we left Cybertron as an exploration crew. Nothing could have prepared me for this war."
"I doubt the intention was for there to be a war since nobody thought you'd live long enough to see it happen," Zodiac corrected him as he turned his head to face him again. "A pity Nexus never intended for you to follow in his footsteps so he didn't teach you the tricks of the trade.. And ironic that you've grown strong enough to survive thus far despite the lack of guidance. "

"I'm willing to try. I've already died once for them and this planet, and I would do it again. I won't stop,"
"Hopefully next time you won't come back," the renegade muttered under his breath while thinking about how much easier it would have been if he'd arrived to find Primal still dead. Of course that would have ruined his plans which ended up failing anyway.

The renegade paused, merely staring blankly at Primal to see if finding out that the former shapeshifter knew about X would bring about a reaction. Instead the Maximal went on to question him about the Vok..

"It's not about innocence, Zodiac. It's about you alerting the Vok that we were still in existence because of you're obsession to terminate me even when you're obviously afraid of them, too. Was it worth the risk?"

Zodiac slowly shook his head.
"Yes, I have my skeletons, but I'm not the one being questioned here,"
"Perhaps we should change this up a bit then?," Zodiac suggested with a slight grimace, doing absolutely nothing to hide his contempt of the situation he was in and the Maximals that were questioning him.
"That's one thing we have in common...," "Why are they intent on harming you?"
And there it was.. A question Zodiac truly dreaded. He wanted to lie so badly.. To not say anything.. To attack them both and slay them.. And to sink through the floor so he wouldn't have to share this dark part of his past.

"I.. stole something of theirs when I abandoned them,"
he finally admitted. "Something they value a great deal."

His went silent for a moment before turning his head to look Primal straight in the optics. "You of anyone should know how they can hold a grudge unlike any others.. So answer me something. Have you been drawing symbols yet?"

Spineback approached the first of their group she could find, that being Terrorsaur who seemed to still be unconscious and judging from the damage to his engine it likely had ended in a rough crash. "Hmph, I could maneuver on sandy terrain better than you fly." She remarked to herself, knowing if the flier had been awake and alert she would have gotten a biting retort in return. But at this rate she cared little for Terrorsaur's attitude and grabbed the Transmetal, hauling him over her shoulder before she turned back to look around.

There had been no response from Waspinator but she doubted he could have been too far from where Cheetor had come from. A quick glance back to what was going on above made Spineback wonder if she should remain and give some cover, but Nemesis telling her to handle in finding the two made her for now think otherwise, "I'll be on standby if assistance is required." Spineback decided to add, moving back in the direction she had come from on foot to follow along it, her optics scanning the mountain side as she went. How easier it would have been to be a Decepticon again, her form more than fitting for rough terrain such as this. And with considering where they were Spineback had began to entertain the thought of her "younger" self being out there, fighting for a cause no one knew would end up for naught the first time around.

But after a few minutes of searching, Spineback finally spotted a tall tale sign of the Transmetal wasp, an outline of his form clear in the rock of where he had crashed. "Primus, that bug needs a tracker implanted in him." The warrior-turned-medic sighed, placing Terrorsaur down for the moment and climbing up to where she saw the Waspinator impression in the rocky wall to retrieve the unfortunate Predacon.

---------------

"Just helping a friend Rattrap, you don't owe me anything," Wintersong assured him with a smile but looked back with worry as she watched Cheetor get blown out of the sky making her spark sink with concern. The height he had fallen surely would have added more damage than what the missile had done and how damaged he would be was going to be of some grave concern. "Just watch your back Rattrap, Inferno isn't down for the count." Wintersong warned before she quickly took off back towards the edge of the forest, her amber optics scanning the skies at first as she spotted the new fuzor trying to make a getaway from Nemesis who would catch up to him soon enough if nothing was done.

Without hesitation, Wintersong aimed her weapon upwards and began firing towards the avian female, hoping to draw her attention away from Tigerhawk so he could regain himself. But just as she was doing this Optimus commed her directly, causing the tigress to growl in disbelief at the timing, more so with Whitegrazer deciding to venture back to the alien site alone. Why would she be there anyway? "Bad timing Primal, I'm kind of caught up with something." Wintersong told him, but after a quick second added, "But I'll go shortly." She assured him, understanding his worry for the mare knowing she shared similar worry for Ironclaw as of late with how different and weird he seemed to be acting.

Above, Tigerhawk was flying as fast as he could, growling as a shot or two struck his wings and threatening to knock him from the sky. If they took any more punishment that likely was going to be his fate. Just as he thought of this though someone else began firing towards them, or most specifically towards his pursuer which made Tigerhawk glance down curiously to find another Transmetal, a tiger like himself except without the additional bird form. But if it served to distract Nemesis enough...

He was not a graceful flier yet but Tigerhawk figured he should try something and trust his own instincts to properly use the form. Angling his body slightly, Tigerhawk flew upwards into a backwards loop that caused his spark to pulse with slight fear at the new perspective he briefly saw from this angle, an upside down view of the ground and his new foe that he never thought to see yet left a slight thrill as well. Ignoring this feeling though, the transmetal fuzor came to fly behind Nemesis as he transformed, once more activating his Machine Guns yet again to begin firing on her from behind, hopefully in a last attempt to force her away. Truth be told, Tigerhawk didn't know how much longer he could keep up flying before the pain in them became too much or Nemesis herself finished the job, especially when there wasn't much distance between them and her speed being more than sufficient to do so.

((OOC: Sorry for the delay, guys. I really wanted to have a post done today for you all, but for some odd reason, today was nothing but dealing with over exhaustion and my head hurt. I mean... really bad. So bad I couldn't concentrate on my computer or anything. I was freaking bedridden most of the day. I'm fine with just a little residual. Irritating but nothing serious. I think I must have caught something from the store. I should feel better tomorrow. I will have a post for you all tomorrow. Again, sorry for the delay.

@OOP and Phoenix: Loved your joint post, guys! :D ))

Yes yes.. I'll stay out of trouble, he assured her via their link. I have as much to lose as anyone else, perhaps even more..
I promise I won't allow the Vok to harm you or anyone. I will do what I must to stop them. This I vow.

This I vow, she whispered to herself. Seeing the faces of Optimus, Aurora, Nemesis, Zodiac, Rhinox, wintersong, Rattrap, dinobot... Umbra, Labdlide...many many faces.

Whitegrazer jumped down to enter the alien site. She looked around immediately, making sure that nothing was coming after her. Nothing came. The area looked so peaceful, so calm and serene yet it was a facade. A facade.

A facade. Hmph. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

I'm here, TyCross. What do I do? How do I talk to them?

Do you see that opened flower? The pink one? With that golden metal stem? Go there, and you will be able to talk to them.

Whitegrazer saw the pink flower with the golden metal stem and made her way towards the flower. Yet, when she took one step forward, she froze.

What are you waiting for? You have no time. No time to dwindle! You have to talk to them. Make them understand your point of view. That is what you want, isn't it? To make them see reason? To make them see that the Maximals and Predacons here don't deserve to die? At least, not by their hand? Go on! Chop! Chop! Time's flying to doomsday.

It wasn't until she got here that she felt an overwhelming dread. Was it because she was finally going to talk to them? After all this time? What was going to happen? What was stopping them from killing her? It has been proven several times over that they didn't care about her nor did they listen to her. Maybe she should have brought Optimus. They, at least, listened to him or gave them a chance. No, no, she couldn't bring him into this mess. Remembering last time how he, not intentionally, sacrificed his life to stop the Planet Buster. It was the help of Rhinox's knowledge with technology combined with her knowledge of spirituality that helped bring Optimus back to them. Realizing that they had saved brought back to life Optimus. She couldn't allow the aliens or anyone else to put Optimus through that again. No one, no Cybertronian, should be here... except her. She wasn't Cybertronian. She was a Vok.

Or she used to be.

It had been a long time since she actually been a Vok. Swam inside the cosmic cloud of Nexus Zero. Heard the whispers of the other Vok, hearing the calling of the One. Now that she thought about it, being a Vok was actually quite less complicated than living as a Cybertronian. Maybe only because she was one. Had been one. Being a Vok she knew what she was. An energy being far beyond the need for physical need or desires. With knowledge of the universe that any normal mortal being wouldn't be able to take, understand or would be driven mad with such. Single-minded in purpose and thought. When she was driven to Cybertron, she came for one purpose only, and that was to drive the Cybertronian race to unify and towards a more peaceful existence. But she failed. As a Vok. Selfish. Her single-mindedness led her to uncompromising beliefs to prove to show her contempt towards inferior beings to her. She was unpredictable, chaotic during the war. She had killed many Cybertronians. Killed them in most disturbing ways. So much so that the High Council ordered everyone to hide her messes. Her Maximal comrades distrusted her, grew wary of her. Some even feared her to the point of asking the High Council to order her to be imprisoned at all times despite the fact that it would be so useless to do so towards a energy being who could crush a single Cybteronian with just one squeeze of her fist. Predacons she fought admire her ruthlessness and some even grew towards obsession about her power, wondering how a Maximal gain such powers. Part of her actually grew to enjoy her battles, her fights with Predacons. The only reason she joined th Maximals was out of necessity, not gained respect or admiration of their values.

How ironic. A Vok would most likely value respect the Predacons' ruthless, cold and calculating nature and be insulted and disgusted by the Maximal's ignorance and preaches of peace when they didn't even know the meaning of the word. Truth of the matter is... The High Council's truth about the Tripredicus Council forced her to be a Maximal. After all, how could she be an ally towards beings who would surely rip her apart?

Abandoned on Cybertron, she forced herself to change. Through, she hated it for a time.

She had to change. Adapt.

And she did.

She became Whitegrazer, a calm and gentle soul with wisdom and compassion. A guide with a motherly hand. Who didn't want to harm anyone or fight despite the fact she did know how to defend herself. Yet, though, her past self wasn't truly gone. After all, she still enjoyed the thrill of battle. And thourgh she came for a peaceful existence, and here she was battling in a war.

Whitegrazer, they will listen to you.

TyCross, why do you think so? After all, past experience proves that my old friends don't wish to speak or acknowledge me. Why should that change?

Because, you have changed. Let them see that, and you and everyone you care about will survive.

TyCross...

An visage of TyCross' sketelon-like face appeared in front of the flower. His entire blackened form with a hand reached out towards her.

Come. Come home.

She smiled. Thinking that when she talked to the Vok that they will finally listen to her.

That overwhelming feeling of dread didn't go away through.

She tried to reassure herself, but the feeling didn't shake off easy.
Whitegrazer, are you at the alien site? Can you hear me? Whitegrazer, answer me!"
Optimus? Her hand reached out toward TyCross' hand, towards the golden metal stem. It stopped. Her spark ached, forcing her to look away from TyCross and looked up towards the direction of the Axalon. She hit her com-link, "Optimus?" Static. "Aurora." Static. Com-link till weren;t working. That was not good. Please listen to me, Optimus, I'm at the alien site. Please don't have anyone following me to be at the site. It's too dangerous for any non-Vok. Please don't follow me. I will not allow the Vok to hurt anyone anymore.

"Such bitterness.. Is it because I rearranged your face?,"
"Hardly," Rhinox answered Zodiac from behind him while he continued his grip on his arms. Yes, his face and head still throbbed, and the most he could do at the time was wipe off his blood from his cut brow and nose, but he didn't allow himself to get caught up in his words. Of course, the hybrid decided to abuse the leniency that the rhinoceros had given on his restraint when he suddenly threw his shoulder at Rhinox's arm in a poor attempt to escape, but the engineer was prepared for it and merely pulled tighter on Zodiac's upper arms to keep him from gaining any momentum or space between himself and the chair he was sitting in.
"The Tripredacus Council consists of a bunch of fools too stuck in the past to focus on improving the future," "If left to their own merits, they'll never achieve anything.."
Neither Rhinox or Optimus were that naive about the Tripredacus Council. They found them to be cunning and manipulative, similar to that of Zodiac. Just because the shape shifter couldn't lie right now didn't mean he was right; it was just his honest opinion about them. It did tell Optimus, however, that Zodiac was highly unlikely working with them or for them.
"Reduced to the clean-up crew.. I wish I'd been present to see Nexus' reaction when he found out." "I doubt the intention was for there to be a war since nobody thought you'd live long enough to see it happen,"
Primal gave a slight smirk at the renegade. "Reduced to the clean-up crew? We both know that that was never their true intentions. Perhaps it was meant to appear simplistic at the time, just another reason to get me off of Cybertron, but now it's turned into something much bigger. So big, in fact, that I doubt the Maximal Elders would have predicted the chaos that may very well ensue and even affect them and the fate of Cybertron with how far this has gotten out of hand."
"A pity Nexus never intended for you to follow in his footsteps so he didn't teach you the tricks of the trade.. And ironic that you've grown strong enough to survive thus far despite the lack of guidance."
"I'll take that as a compliment," the leader commented.
"Hopefully next time you won't come back,"
Optimus stared at Zodiac for a moment before squinting an orange optic. "Maybe. Maybe not. But we Optimuses certainly have a knack for it, don't we?"
"Perhaps we should change this up a bit then?,"
Optimus pretended to consider Zodiac's suggestion but he eventually shook his head and said, "No. We don't have time for that."
"I.. stole something of theirs when I abandoned them," "Something they value a great deal."
Now things were getting interesting again. Optimus took a step toward Zodiac, crossing his arms with his gaze glancing at Rhinox's thoughtfully and briefly before returning it to the renegade who was suddenly quiet and staring intensely upon Primal. He waited anxiously to find out what it was that Zodiac had stolen from the almighty Vok. But he failed to satisfy his thirst for knowledge.
"You of anyone should know how they can hold a grudge unlike any others.. So answer me something. Have you been drawing symbols yet?"
The Maximal Commander stared back at him which suggested that, yes, he had. While he still appeared emotionless on the outside, he was a bit taken aback inside. He thought the only way Zodiac could have known that was if he had been doing the same thing. And it struck him. "You've suffered from the same side effects when they've invaded your mind," he concluded. "Those symbols you engraved on the pod."

Rhinox's optics enlarged, bewildered, as he looked to Optimus. By the Matrix...

Suddenly, Primal felt like he understood Zodiac just a little better and some of the things he had gone through, at least when it came to the Vok. Could they possibly work together to fend off the alien race...? "What did you steal from them, Zodiac?" he demanded to know.
"Bad timing Primal, I'm kind of caught up with something." "But I'll go shortly."
The leader's face glowered for a moment at Wintersong's response since he needed her to go at that very moment, but he refrained himself from pressuring her since she was likely still under fire from the Predacons trying to obtain or kill Tigerhawk. In the meantime, he finally felt some communication from the mare.

Optimus? Please listen to me, Optimus, I'm at the alien site. Please don't have anyone following me to be at the site. It's too dangerous for any non-Vok. Please don't follow me. I will not allow the Vok to hurt anyone anymore.

Is that what Zodiac told you? His voice held a scowl with it, disappointed with her listening to his treacherous words. Do not approach that site, Whitegrazer! That's an order! Who knows what might happen if you activate it! The Vok can't be reasoned with. They're not working alone. This is bigger than all of us. He paused to try and calm himself but there was still a sense of urgency in his voice. Whitegrazer, your life is my responsibility. If something happens to you... I've already lost too many under my command, I can't bear to lose you. And if something happens, I can't be there to help you. Please, don't do this, he pleaded to her. Secure a perimeter but do not engage. Do you understand?

"Aurora, I've reached Whitegrazer. She's at the alien site," Primal sent her over his comm. link, but by the end of his sentence he narrowed his optics at Zodiac accusingly.

-----
"Just helping a friend Rattrap, you don't owe me anything,"
Once upon a time he used to give little thought about repaying someone, but these days, Rattrap felt like he needed to own up to his debts and help the ones who saved his life, and also continue to risk his life his friends. Hence, him racing to Cheetor's side now.
"Just watch your back Rattrap, Inferno isn't down for the count."
"Copy dat," he acknowledged Wintersong's warning and continued driving, glancing upward every so often through the tree canopy to keep an eye on Tigerhawk and Nemesis in the sky. As he made his way through the jungle, he approached the mountain's base and zeroed in on Cheetor.

Further behind him, Inferno was still hovering in the air, shaking off the hit he endured from the filthy TransMetal tiger and searching for the rodent. When the smaller Maximal departed the thicker brush, he spotted him immediately, heading toward the mountain and his downed feline friend. Glaring, and locking and loading his weapon, the Predacon blasted off in his direction. "I will give your head to the Royalty, rrrodent!" he assured himself out loud although he was the only one around to hear himself. While Spineback fooled around searching for their fallen comrades, and Nemsis continued playing with the newbie, Inferno thought it best to go after the Maximals' team leader, and that was Rattrap. Take him down and it would surely make the others suffer and quiver.

Pulling up to Cheetor's unconscious body, Rattrap immediately maximized and ran to his side. "Cheetor?! Cheetor can you hear me?" He knelt down beside him and examined his injuries, which didn't look good at all. He might have been in stasis lock. He tried assessing them with his basic medical knowledge but Aurora or Rhinox would have been a much better choice.

"Landslide, you gotta get here a.s.a.p. Cheetor's in real bad shape," he reported to the flying TransMetal beetle. "And I'm gonna have company soon," he said, looking off into the distant sky as Inferno's noisy propeller engine was picked up by his sensitive audio receptors and he could make out the figure of the enemy's silhouette.
"Well, that's just prime!"

Nemesis kept up her pursuit of the new fuzor, sending a barrage of shots at him as he foolishly tried to outfly her. Although she had already established that the new Maximal wasn't very fast and she could easily catch up with him if she wanted to, she felt it best to keep her distance and merely pummel him with firepower from afar. It would be simple enough to go in for the kill when the fool had exhausted his resources.

A few of her shots found their target, piercing Tigerhawk's wings and extracting a pained growl from her target. The avian female smirked at that, a part of her almost a bit impressed that he was still able to fly given the punishment he was receiving. She was so distracted, in fact, that she failed to take notice of the tigress below who was now targeting her. And a moment later she paid for her failure when some shots fired from below penetrated one wing and graced her thigh on the same side, causing the transmetal female to grimace in pain and change her angle of flight. Fortunately her nanomachines were quick to start repairs and the gaping and smoking hole in her wing almost instantly started glowing.

"Maximals..," she muttered, her targeting systems changing to the tigress below, "Never willing to simply wait their turn."

She fired at Wintersong, and in that moment of distraction she failed to notice that Tigerhawk was changing his strategy as well. By the time she returned her attention to the fuzor, he was no longer there. Where'd he..?

Her answer came too late for her to react. The machine gun fire hit her in the back, calf, her large wings, and worst of all in the back of her shoulder where the wing attached. This time Nemesis let out a pained yelp, firing her thrusters to try to keep herself airborne only to have the next shot hit that and incapacitate it. Just great.. Again her nanomachines started repairs almost immediately, but they weren't able to repairs her quickly enough to keep her from falling like a missile from the sky.

Nemesis didn't have much time to even consider her options before she slammed into the ground, nearly hitting Rattrap as she came crashing down only a few feet away from him. Once the dust settled, Nemesis groaned and tried to lift her head slightly before the overwhelming pain radiating from every inch of her body caused her to black out.
"Hardly,"
Zodiac quickly stopped struggling as the chief engineer pulled more tightly at his restrained arms, so tightly, in fact, that his limbs were now stretched to the point they started to hurt. It would almost have been more comfortable if his hands were cuffed behind his back or to the chair.

He wanted to tell Rhinox it was a pity he hadn't gotten to do a more thorough job on his face then, but fortunately Primal interrupted him in time.
Zodiac tilted his head, sending Primal a quizzical look. "Believe what you will," he told him after a brief pause, "But wasn't getting rid of X your preliminary mission that fateful day you were called on to follow Megatron? Or were you merely taking the Council's failed pet project out for a little stroll?" He smiled ever so slightly despite the throbbing of his limbs.

"You have no idea of how close your ship came to being attacked for its cargo, do you? Despite the Council fearing what they had created.. what you helped them create.. many others sought after it. Our spies within the organization were able to obtain the information and a crew had been sent to intercept the Axalon while you were still in Cybertronian airspace."

He stopped again, silently cursing the truth serum they had given him and himself for not being able to resist it. But right now it didn't really matter anymore. Neither one of them were working for their former employers. Everything had changed. Well almost everything. He still didn't have his freedom and had merely exchanged one prison for another.

"Then you went to intercept Megatron.. and we lost track of your position. That's when they decided to send me after Nexus Prime.. "

His words trailed off, his voice growing silent.
"I'll take that as a compliment,"
Zodiac merely grimaced slightly at that response. But Primal did have a valid point. Zodiac had underestimated him and had failed to realize just how much Primal had changed from when they were youths.
"Maybe. Maybe not. But we Optimuses certainly have a knack for it, don't we?"

"Unfortunately,"
Zodiac muttered under his breath. His mission would have been a lot less complicated if that hadn't been a trait shared with his namesake.
"No. We don't have time for that."
"Pity. Could have been fun," the renegade responded in a mocking tone.

He went silent again, merely studying Optimus' face for a reaction to his inquiry about the alien symbols. And the look of recognition in his foe's optics told him all he needed to know.
"You've suffered from the same side effects when they've invaded your mind," he concluded. "Those symbols you engraved on the pod."
And there it was. The inevitable admission. Despite all the things Zodiac had done, all the deceit, theft, murders.. It was his time with the Vok that had left the biggest impact on him. And it was the one aspect of his life he was the most unwilling to revisit.

Zodiac merely nodded, a silent confirmation that Primal was right. He inclined his head, looking away from them both.

"The rest of the evidence burned with Nexus' ship,"
he grudgingly admitted.

"I barely ever sleep because the horrors come back to me then," he continued, silently cursing the drug still circulating through his system and compelling him to be honest. Oh he hated it. He hated sharing his innermost demons like this.
"What did you steal from them, Zodiac?"
He twitched uncomfortably in his chair, inadvertently jerking at his hands yet again. But to no avail.

"When I regained my senses enough to plot an escape, I collected as much of their weapons as I could physically carry with me. Part of the bomb I brought to the Axalon contained alien technology.. Not as strong as the weapon they unleashed on Outpost 62 but the effects would have been similar.. "

He drew a breath before he continued.

"I also brought another golden disc with me. It contains information on the alien bases of this world."

"Aurora, I've reached Whitegrazer. She's at the alien site,"
Aurora went silent for several moments upon hearing that. It was honestly what she'd been afraid of. "Should.. I go to retrieve her?," she finally responded to Primal's message.

Landslide continued on course responding on the radio Comin' as fast I can lad, hold on! Landslide responded, his optical sensors zooming in as he noticed Inferno in the distance flying towards Rattrap. Looks like I'm gonna be needin' my bug zapper.. Landslide said to himself, transforming to robot mode as he was flying, his right arm opening with his electro laser extending from his forearm. He braced his arm with his left arm, aiming towards Inferno's backside. With a crackle the gun let loose a bolt of electricity into Inferno, hopefully to stun him for a bit.

Landslide then changed course, opening his wings as he came down for a landing near Rattrap, looking towards Cheetor, then glanced towards Nemesis on the ground, his wings folding behind him. Er.. Right. I'll handle Cheetor, you keep Inferno busy. Landslide then said, moving closer to Cheetor, he pulled out two wires from his left arm and plugged them into Cheetor running a diagnostic, while physically examining the damage. Stasis lock.. spark and memory are fine.. Landslide muttered to himself.

((Sorry if this will seem rushed guys, but I don't have a lot of time today to make a reply later and this weekend is gonna be semi-busy on my end so it wouldn't be until at least Tuesday I'd get a reply in. So gonna go ahead while I can.))

After a little effort Spineback reached the downed wasp and got him out of the rock, using her Tail lance to break some of the surrounding mountain to work him out and finally yanking him free, probably upsetting any injuries he had. "Sorry Waspy, injuries will have to be handled later." Spineback said, though she didn't expect him to answer as it was since he hadn't even answered the hails on the communications. Holding Waspinator in one arm she placed her lance upon her back once more before holding the Transmetal insect under her arm and jumping down to where she had left Terrorsaur. "Nemesis I've retrieved our two other fliers. Do you require further assistance?" Spineback asked, but all she got was static. "Nemesis?" She asked again, but no response.

Turning her optics to the sky all she could see was Tigerhawk descending towards the ground and in the distance Inferno...being pursued by the maximal beetle. "For the love of Primus," Spineback growled softly. "Inferno we need to fall back! The Maximals have us outgunned, Nemesis is down and I still have these two lugnuts out cold, especially Waspinator. Get your skid plate out of there and get Nemesis." Spineback called over the com-link, trying to get the ant to see reason through his messed up processor. "I know you don't want to give up in the name of our Royalty, but we're all about to meet the Pit if we don't fall back." Spineback added, trying to appeal to the ant's literally damaged processor and his way of thinking. Maybe using "Royalty" would catch his attention.

In the meantime, Tigerhawk watched as Nemesis failed to realize what he was doing and fall towards the ground like a rock while he flinched when she crashed. "I may not outfly you, but apparently I just need to outmaneuver you." Tigerhawk muttered, wincing as the pain was beginning to override his will to keep into the air, which was probably the only thing keeping him up. His resilience was strong but his HUB was flashing warnings of extensive damage threatening to cause him to meet a similar fate to Nemesis.

Folding his weapons behind his shoulders he lowered to the ground but had to fold his wings behind his back and dropped down the rest of the way with a pained grunt, partly bending his knees to help with the landing. "Thank you, that distraction is just what I needed." "Be lucky one of us was close by to help." Wintersong stated, merely shrugging slightly but cringing as she allowed her form to take the shots Nemesis fired back towards her, her shoulders sparking where the shots had penetrated her armor slightly. "Look, Rattrap is back that way, and one of our allies should be here any time now. But I can't remain." Wintersong told him as Tigerhawk glanced up above the trees, noticing the arrival of Landslide as he went after what he assumed was another of the Predacons searching for the downed Cheetor and the one known as Rattrap. "Of course. Beast mode!" Tigerhawk stepped back and transformed to his misshapen beast form albeit with a grimace since he would be in pain for a little while and would need to allow his self-repair system work it's magic.

Watching Tigerhawk take off into the trees nearby, Wintersong in the mean time turned her attention to what Optimus had asked of her. Putting her blaster away Wintersong growled as she shifted to her vehicle mode, "Rattrap, Tigerhawk is heading your way on foot. But I have to leave to the alien site, for whatever reason Whitegrazer went there alone and Optimus wants me to make sure she's not doing something stupid, as hard as that is to believe. I'll see you guys back at base." Wintersong told the Transmetal rat over her com-link, feeling bad that she had to leave on short notice but the way Optimus sounded she didn't have a lot of time. "Boosters, maximum power!" Wintersong commanded as her boosters burst to life and she began to back track towards the alien site, trying to get there as fast as her form would allow.

Though at this rate, she wondered if she would even make it back to base in time to speak with or see Ironclaw, or at the very least learn Zodiac's fate since Aurora and Rhinox had found the former shapeshifting dragon. Fate today just seemed to be keeping her away.

((OOC: I'm sorry if my post isn't up to par with what I usually produce. Just been having the attention span of a tick these last few days. Horrible. ))
Is that what Zodiac told you? Do not approach that site, Whitegrazer! That's an order! Who knows what might happen if you activate it! The Vok can't be reasoned with. They're not working alone. This is bigger than all of us. He paused to try and calm himself but there was still a sense of urgency in his voice. Whitegrazer, your life is my responsibility. If something happens to you... I've already lost too many under my command, I can't bear to lose you. And if something happens, I can't be there to help you. Please, don't do this, he pleaded to her. Secure a perimeter but do not engage. Do you understand?
Optimus.... It's all right. She spoke gently towards Optimus, trying to calm him down. Understood his feelings towards what she is doing and was about to do. Maybe... maybe she was foolish, but she had to. She had to try. It's too late. I'm at the alien site, but there won;t be any trouble. I'm still recognized as a Vok, so the site is benign and quite peaceful. If any Cybertronian steps foot on it, it will. Please don;t send yourself or anyone here. Please tell them to turn back now. Even if to distract or give the others more time to devise a plan to defeat the aliens... if what she planned didn't work. It isn't what Zodiac has told me. I wanted to do this. This is my chance to be the one who faces them and whatever weapon of mass destruction they plan to use to destroy this planet just destroy us. I shouldn't had let you go inside that pod. I should have stopped you, and took your place. At least, I would have taken responsibility rather than refuse to acknowledge who I am and will always be. A tear went down her cheek, but Optimus wasn't there to wipe it off this time. Nor did she want to. It's time I took that responsibility. No more running. It's time I faced them. Face to face. I don't know what is going to happen. I'm not a fortune teller.

TyCross' visage was still there, clearing his processor. Whitegrazer, we don't have all day. Tic Tok Tic Tok.

I... I don't want to cause you any more pain, Optimus. You been through enough pain and loss. Please. If... something does happen, Primus know I will try my best to save you and everyone, including myself, but if it isn't possible to save myself, then don't... grieve. I caused you... The planet of Cybertron much pain just for taking a physical form. If I knew... I will have never come here in the first place. But I can;t turn back the clock. I can only try and rectify my mistakes. If the price I have to pay is to save your life and everyone else's, then I will pay it. I know you understand because if you were in my place, you will do the same thing.

Whitegrazer!

She stared back at TyCross. His scowl burned holes through her.

That overwhelming feeling again... As she stared at TyCross, she was beginning to wonder if TyCross had an ulterior motive. Or was she just being paranoid?

A presence was slowly approaching. As it came closer and closer, she felt the presence of the Maxmal female tigeress, Wintersong.

Optimus! Tell Wintersong to go back! I can't reach her with my com-link. Hurry! Hurry before her com-link goes down too!

She stepped forward. She had to stop Wintersong from entering the site.

TyCross grabbed her wrist. You aren't going anywhere. Not this time, Whitegrazer. Not this time.

Release me, TyCross. If I don't, the site will activate.

Let her. It doesn't matter. We have everything we need.

Whitegrazer stared at TyCross, confused. What did her master mean by that? Why? What do you mean? What are you doing, TyCross? TyCross remained silent, squeezing her wrist even harder. It didn't even flinch her though. She glared at TyCross. Flashes of a floating silver in a shape of the flower she witnessed flying in the air around the alien site. Hovering above. White flashes... hurting familiar faces... Everyone. Maximal. Predacon. Her body.... ripped. Torn apart. Pain. Agony. Everyone was calling out to her. Optimus. Aurora. Nemesis. Zodiac. Rhinox. Ugh! Everyone reaching out towards her with one of their hands while the other gripped their chest areas.

You...

Realization kicked in. Her other hand gripped TyCross' wrist and forced him off her. This was all in her mind. A fight inside her midn and soul. Against him. TyCross was trying to keep her here.

"Wintersong! Wintersong! Turn back! Turn back! You have to-"

TyCross gripped her throat, squeezing.

They pay for their interference. You will pay for your insolence and recklessness.

Whitegrazer's face twisted in fear, but it was soon replaced by an expression of burning fury.
