First time episodes on DVD

Unread post by EverBlue »

I was just wondering. What were some Beast Wars episodes that you missed out on tv when the show was still on the air but saw them for the first time on DVD? If you do have episodes you've seen solely on DVD, how did you feel about seeing them for the very first time? Were they worth the long wait?

Here's my list of episodes never seen while broadcasted but only on DVD:

1) The Agenda trilogy - After Code of Hero and Transmutate, I didn't think anything could top those. I was wrong. This three-parter blew me away completely! Everything about these episodes represented the peak of Beast Wars perfection from the plot to the animation to the strong character moments. They represent Beast Wars as it should be: fast, furious, and epic. I can safetly say this trilogy was well worth the long wait.

2) Changing of the Guard - I never really dug comedy BW episodes. It's okay when they incorporate bits and pieces of comedy into strong action, adventure, and drama but when they dedicate an entire episode to nothing but gags, that's when Beast Wars falls apart. The fight between Rampage and Depth Charge lacked a lot of intensity as well. I did find the moment between DC and Silverbolt to be interesting and it was also amusing to hear that underwater Rattrap theme even if the scene itself was too "Under the Sea" for me. Suffice to say, this episode was really not worth the long wait(over three years, I think).

3) Other Victories - A lot of people trash this episode but I didn't find it as bad as most people made it out to be. Sure the whole Tigerhawk concept didn't sit too well with me and its plot was razor thin, but this episode does succeed at being a good, mindless action episode with some pretty decent animation. It's like the Star Wars prequel trilogy in that you just gotta lower some of your story-telling standards to enjoy it on a purely visceral action/animation level. The first half of this was pretty decent especially with the fight between Tigerhawk and the Predacons but the second half kinda bored me. Killing Tarantulas off was also an unwise decision on part of the writers. In the long run, Other Victories wasn't really worth the wait but still, I did get some enjoyment out of it on a baser level.

Actually I saw them all 5-6 years ago on Fox Kids but I haven't seen the show up until January when they started to air on G4 again.

I had never seen the beginning of "Optimal Situation" until I watched it on DVD, at the first annual Bwint Gathering. Being such a big fan for so long, I was totally riveted. Even if it was just a few minutes of the episode I had not seen, to finally watch them made me very happy.

I'd also not seen some season 1 episodes since the 90's, so I'd forgotten what happened in many of them and it was like watching them for the first time again. "Equal Measures" was like a brand new episode when I watched my season 1 DVDs early last year. :D

I was lucky and managed to tape all of the episodes of all 3 seasons years ago. With my best friend Maria's help we managed to have them all taped in order as well (We figured out the order of the eps on the net). I think season 3 was not entirely in order but I had still managed to get all of the episodes. I also used to fall alseep watching these tapes... yeah, I was pretty obssessed I think ^^;

So when I got the DVD's there really wasn't anything new for me to see. Doesn't matter though, I still get just as hyper when I watch through them again :)

I was lucky enough to see all the eps of BW while it was on TV, and I managed to tape most of them too. But I missed a couple from season one: "The Spark", "Dark Designs", "A Better Mousetrap", and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

Thanks to a friend I got my paws on "A Better Mousetrap" and then I got the BW DVDs. Watching the eps I hadn't seen in several years was LIKE seeing them for the first time, although with faint recollections of 'Oh I remember that! XD', ect.

Oh, somehow I never managed to tape the first 10 minutes of "Tangled Web" and usually jumped in near the end. It was very nice to see that full ep again because the whole thing between Black Arachnia and Tarantulas was very important to the series. I'd completely forgotten what the beginning was like. Not to mention all those fun bits and pieces.... like when Megatron was talking to Waspinator, and we hear Inferno's manaical laughter just before the jamming tower falls on Waspy.... XD
