BotCon 2009 announced

Unread post by Wayward »

I don't see the announcement here, so here it be. BotCon 2009 will be in Pasadena California on May 28-31.

I can't go because it's too far, but hopefully some of you can make it out.

I'm a bit disappointed with the time and location. How many times has it been in California now? No offense to anyone who lives there; I'm dying to visit there sometime but not right now. And May? That doesn't give me enough time to save much. Isn't the sequel due to be released at the end of June? They should have the BotCon like they did in 2007. I've sucked up a lot of money with my Vancouver, BC vacation this past summer, moving to a new home and getting more bills, trashing my car and getting a higher insurance rate, and then buying a new car. So, I'm a bit strapped. It would've helped if the BotCon were a lot closer. Woe is me! :(

:(

Everyone's sad at the local but me. No wonder they haven't had one back this way since the unofficial con in 04. (I believe OTFCC was in Texas that year, can't quite remember)

I'm excited, I can actually go to the con. Not sure if I can afford the super-mega-awesome package but I'm hoping I can. :)

Hope to see at least a few folks there as well. If not I'll try to get off my arse and post some pics and a review of what's happening BW wise for all of you.

Baron, if you'll send me the toy set, I will pay for a Primus package for you. You'll have to pay for the loose set if you want the toys yourself. Then you can keep the box ones and send me the loose set. ( Yes, I've covered costs for friends before. The Dealer package doesn't have the toy set, so I have to buy a Primus package anyway. I put the Primus package in someone else's name so that they get in free, on the condition that I get the toy set. This time, I can't go at all. The Non-Attendee package costs the same as a Primus package, so why not buy a Primus package in someone else's name if I'm going to be spending the money anyway? )

'ward, that sounds awesome :)

I was trying to think of how I'd pull off getting a full Primus package this year, and well I do want the toys (they are shiny, and the last few years the toys have been amazing.) I'll drop you a line and we can discuss details.

Grumble.

1- Too far

2- Too expensive

3- SCHOOL TIME! ME WORKING!

4- Timing: I've been invited to stay with a friend in California....but not at that time. So it's a no from me, too.

Grrrr. I've said it before and I'll say it again...BotCon needs to come to UK! Seriously, I've met plenty of Transformer nutters there! There's a shop on my High Street that sells TF stuff; comics, toys, miniature busts etc. Lol, that shop is geek heaven

Will anything interesting be happening there that I will inevitably loathe all the attendees for?

Baron - the address remains wayward at insecticons dot com. ;) Probably easiest if I do the paperwork and pay 'em the full amount, then hit you up for the cost of the extras after confirmation.

Jagna - There's a UK Transformers convention - Auto Assembly. Dunno if it works for you, though.

I've started doing some research on Pasadena.
"Located at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, Pasadena is just 15 minutes north of downtown Los Angeles in sunny Southern California. Pasadena offers the business and recreational traveler a surprising combination of sophisticated charm, culture, history, and fun." To quote a site: http://www.pasadenacal.com/

And I've just learned that it's fairly easy to go anywhere there without a car. (Yay for me!!!) Not to mention that there are plenty of hotels:

A. The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena - pasadena.langhamhotels.com
B. Sheraton Pasadena Hotel - www.sheraton.com
C. Saga Motor Hotel - www.thesagamotorhotel.com
D. Quality Inn - www.qualityinn.com
E. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Pasadena-Colorado Boulevard. - www.hiexpress.com
F. Hilton Pasadena - www.hilton.com
G. Courtyard by Marriot Pasadena - marriott.com
H. Vagabond Inn Executive Pasadena - www.vagabondinn-pasadena-hotel.com
I. Ramada Pasadena - www.ramadapasadena.com
J. Pasadena Inn - www.oldpasadenainn.com -

So many places for Botcon to be at. ^^

I'm that excited. I'm just hoping that greyhound is able to get me there.

The location is perfect, but the timing is awful. I'll be in the thick of exams. Had it been 5 weeks later, I would have been able to go. Drat.

awwww :( No Saph? Can't you just skip exams? :p

If not we shall have to bombard FanPub till they change the date of the con :p (specially with the TF movie opening at the end of June, that'd make more sense, eh?)

Lol yeah Baron, we should harass them until they make it easier for everyone to get there!

Well, since I'm going to switch to a 3 year, part-time stint in my program (and therefore no practicum this may/june), it looks like I'll be there!

I don't care if I have to bend the very laws of space and time to get there #glances over at his Hiro Nakamura samurai sword replica# I WILL be there and it WILL be awesome :D

Changing the dates to incorporate the rest of the group would be awesome and if anyone wants to get that momentum started I will support, but have no time to spearhead.

I agree that it is a little strange that it is not being held at the release date, however one would hope that this means we will actually get an advanced screening of the movie this time round. (Still very annoyed that my mate who stayed in Australia got to see it before me who travelled halfway across the bloody world to see it!! )

So as a quick look at the numbers, we have WW (if all goes well), Baron, Nurann and my whacky self thus far. Sounds good to me :D

WARNING: Silver may be singing "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" the whole time, causing everyone around to want to bludgeon him with his own action figures
It's ok sir. I'll be fine...

Just listen to your commander, bonebrain!

Yes dear...

as long as you supply the action figures for bludgeoning I'm good.

I will probably drag assorted others as well, either my gf, or some friends from uni. Either way though I gotta at least spend time with you fine folks again.

I'm afraid FunPub sets the dates for this con and for their GIJoe con at the same time and the Joe con this year is in August for the release of their movie, so I think ours is stuck being May or before, and before would be hard to get folks to come as even for May I'll be scrounging for Dealer room/hotel/food/gas money. Luckily tax returns come back. I guess mine will be going towards toys again :p
