What makes this Tournament match feel weird... is that this is the first time since the Generation One Singles Tournament that an Optimus and a Megatron -- the two most iconic names in Transformers -- have faced off in the Finals. But nevertheless, the polar opposite names are once again facing off in a different continuity and in a different setting, once again for Championship glory. Only this time, each Leader has to rely on the assistance of a partner, and neither team is all that steady. Can Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus hold out on their personal rivalry long enough to win the RiD Tag Team Championship? Will Sky-Byte rise to the occasion and bolster Megatron's chances to claim victory? There is only one way to know... you decide the winners!
This time, there is just one winning team to choose. And as usual, the trick is to pick the more realistic winner in this Championship Final, using the criteria that a win can be gained by (a) forcing a surrender from either or both members of the opposing team, (b) rendering one or both members unable to continue after a 15-second count, or (c) destroying either or both members of the opposition. The profiles of both teams, links to additional character information, and their respective roads to the finals, are here once again for a reminder:
Megatron & Sky-Byte (Predacon) – The supreme Leader of the Predacons and Decepticons, and his loyal (and sometimes hardlucky) Lieutenant. Megatron is a master of transformation, capable of six different modes; Sky-Byte is an underrated and powerful warrior with a vicious streak and an artistic flair. Megatron transforms into robot, bat, double-headed dragon, armored car, jet fighter, and flying hand-claw modes. Megatron’s robot mode uses a pair of energon bayonet-like swords; bat mode can generate ultrasonic waves; dragon mode breathes fire; car and jet fighter modes can reach great speeds; hand mode is capable of flight and crushing power. Sky-Byte can fly in shark mode; has massive strength as both shark (especially his jaws) and robot mode; armed with a dual torpedo launcher, a four-pronged Shark Spike, and a powerful Tsunami Blaster. Megatron’s bad temper can throw him off his strategy, and Sky-Byte suffers from inconsistent luck.

Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus (Autobot) – Brother duo of Autobot Commander and self-believed Commander. One is a hero dedicated to the preservation of life and the defeat of the Decepticons; the other doesn’t care about collateral damage, as long as he wins. Optimus’ fire truck mode is surprisingly fast; has an extendable ladder with hidden missile launchers, and dual water cannon. Magnus’ car carrier truck mode is very heavily armored, and armed with the Blue Bolts multi-weapons pod, equipped with two long-range missile launchers and a variety of variable-caliber guns. Optimus’ basic robot mode uses a compression pistol; remainder of vehicle mode forms a multi-purpose (and multi-weaponry) battle station, which can combine with Prime’s body to form a super-sized Battle Mode, with enhanced armor, strength and firepower. Magnus’ robot mode has immense physical strength and the use of his Blue Bolts weapon system; is also capable of high-speed flight. Both can combine to form the giant Omega Prime, merging their strengths, firepower and flight mode into a single warrior. Optimus can be duped into making a mistake by a false show of goodwill; Magnus’ viciousness can be an asset to combat, but can place him at strategic odds with Optimus.

And again, for those who are feeling a little creative, for this Tournament Final (and every Tournament Final) you get the chance to write out a description of this Championship Final battle, between these two teams. It can be long or short, concise or detailed. But make it a good and realistic battle, worthy of a championship final. Use the profiles and abilities of the combatants to whatever potential works the best, and keep them in character in this two-on-two battle. No outside interference. No additional reinforcements. No pyramid ruins or O-Parts. But if you feel like adding a little extra to your written description of the fight -- anything from crowd reactions to making it a cage match -- if it works, feel free. But even if you don't feel like writing out the battle scene yourself, you can still just place the simple vote; a poll feature has been added to this match.
The deadline for voting and submissions will tentatively be Saturday, February 18, 7pm PT (barring any future problems), shortly after which the results will be posted, along with some samples from any written battle scenarios, to be posted on all participating boards.
