Somewhere I Belong

By: Sinead

Written on: 9 July 2003

Author’s Note: I had been planning to do this series later, but I guess that since, at the moment, I have no connection to the Internet, that I’ll do this, out of sheer boredom. Blah. Okay, now for the disclaimers: I don’t own Starath, Megatron, Beast Wars, Linkin Park, or the song Somewhere I Belong. Nor do I own Sapphire or Rattrap. Their characters merely pop into my head every so often. But I think that Starath’s close to buying Megsie, I’m nowhere near buying my Dinobot, and Linkin Park . . . well, they’re just cool, y’know? Onward!

When this began

I had nothing to say

And I’d get lost in the nothingness inside of me

Megatron stormed to his quarters, after another humiliating defeat from the Maximals. He had absolutely no tolerance for his troops, who had, once again, screwed up.

With an irritated sigh, he lowered himself into his hot-tub, and rested the back of his head upon the side of the comfortably warm pool, deactivating his optics, and thinking about the traitor. Pity that Dinobot died. He was a good fighter, and was once a good friend. Whatever had caused the rift between them, Megatron never knew, but he knew that it was probably his fault, and not the warrior’s.

I was confused

And I let it all out to find that I’m

Not the only person with these things in mind

Starath, also, was having a bad day. College courses weren’t all that they were supposed to be. Then, to make things worse, her printer wasn’t working. Therefore, she couldn’t print out her stories. She rubbed at her elbow, which she had slammed into the doorframe when entering her room, and hoped that a bruise wouldn’t appear. She settled herself upon her bed, and hugged a pillow close to herself, looking at the mirror within her room. She smiled sadly and wished . . .

Inside of me

But all the vacancy the words revealed

Is the only thing that I’ve got left to feel

Megatron heard a beep, and blinked. That was his room’s perimeter alarm, rigged so that if someone was about to enter, he’d know, and would look like he knew psychically that they had wanted to talk to him about something.

Yet . . . nobody knocked upon his door. He gave it up to be a false alarm, and was about to settle back, when the single beep sounded again. This time, he stood, dripping, and walked to the center of the room.

Eyes bored into the back of his head. He spun, and–

Nothing to loose

Just stuck hollow and alone

Starath stared at the Predacon in her mirror. His optics burned into her eyes. Stepping closer, he reached out to touch the mirror, confused slightly, but his curiosity took over, as his hand didn’t hit a surface, but instead . . . passed through.

The human, seeing this, ran through, and wrapped her arms around his waist. The Transmetal stopped, and then looked down at the girl. “What the Pit . . . ?!”

And the fault is my own

And the fault is my own

She didn’t answer, so Megatron, as roughly as he dared with this human, pushed her away, then came down to her eye-level. “Who the Pit are you, yess, and what the slag do you think you are doing?!”

Tears sprang unbidden to Starath’s eyes, and she rubbed at them furiously. “I . . . I dunno. Sinead said that this happened to her. Sapphire said the same thing. I was only happy that I could do this as well.”

The tyrant was perplexed. “Who? What? Did what, yess.”

“Come to this time and place.”

I want to heal

I want to feel

Megatron whirled, and then activated his visual comm. “Connect me to the Maximal Base.”

The computer voice replied. “Acknowledged. Hailing. Response.”

Optimus was there. “Megatron. Pleasant surprise.”

“Rot in the Void, Primal. Have humans been traveling from some time in the future, to here? Tell me the truth. Two, specifically. Names are Sinead and Sapphire. And I believe that they travel through mirrors.”

Optimus was silent, before Rattrap’s face appeared next to him. “Who told ’ya?”

What I thought was never real

I want to let go of the pain I’ve held for so long

Erase all the pain ’til it’s gone

Starath ran over, and looked up at the screen. Rattrap was focused upon Megatron. He couldn’t see her, since she was much shorter than he was. The Transmetal rat pressed in. “Well?”

With a sigh, Megatron reached down, and picked Starath up, letting her sit upon his shoulder. “Her.”

Rattrap looked at the human. “You know dose two?”

“Yep!”

I want to heal

I want to feel

Rattrap smirked. “Pity dat you’re paired with da stiff.”

“I think it’s fine! Really! I like him!”

“Oo-kay. Hey, have you been in contact with Sinead?”

“Yeah, well, duh.”

“How’s Choppuhface doin’ over dere?”

“Annoying her to the point of exhaustion, he says, but she says that he’s only being a goof.”

Like I’m close to something to real

I want to find something I’ve wanted all along

Somewhere I belong

Megatron looked from Rattrap to the human. “Dinobot’s alive?”

“Yep, and in our time and place,” Starath replied. “Why?”

“Nothing that concerns you.”

Starath smiled, and leaned upon his head. “Anyway, you’ll never believe what happened, Rattrap. Have you seen Sapph lately?”

“Nah, she’s been busy. We wave, smile, dat’s about all. You know how it is with school an’ all.”

And I’ve got nothing to say

I can’t believe I didn’t fall right down on my face

The human grinned, and replied, “The Raptor proposed.”

“Get. The slag. Outta here. He actually pulled up enough guts?”

“What does that mean?” Megatron mumbled.

“They’re gonna get married,” Starath replied, giggling. “And I saw a pic of the two of them together! It was so adorable!”

“You’ve gotta show me, kiddo!” Rattrap said in the “manly” version of a squeal.

I was confused

Looking everywhere only to find that it’s

Not the way I had imagined it all in my mind

As those two continued their discussion, the two leaders looked to each other. Optimus read his nemesis’ thoughts easily. “Truce?”

“Truce, Primal. What are the terms?”

“No weaponry, no hostility, until this is all figured out.”

“And after it’s cleared up?”

Starath tapped Megatron’s nose, getting his attention, while Rattrap hid a smile at her bubbliness. “Can you let me down for a moment? I’ll be right back!”

So what am I

What do I have but negativity

He lowered her, and then went back to the negotiations. Optimus replied, “Then we’ll see.”

Rattrap sighed, and beckoned to Rhinox to come over. He had just come from his lab. “What’s goin’ on?”

Optimus looked over his shoulder at his friend. “A truce between the Maximals and the Predacons.”

“Why?”

’Cause I can’t justify the

Way everyone is looking at me

A feminine voice replied, “Hey! I’m back!”

Megatron lifted her up again, and she pushed a color print-out from her school’s computer against the screen. Rhinox blinked, then looked to Rattrap, who was smiling. “He’s lookin’ good, Starath. So’s Sinead.”

“They’re planning to get married in about a year-and-a-half. She still has to finish high school.”

Nothing to lose

Nothing to gain hollow and alone

Rhinox came over, as did Cheetor, who laughed in glee at the picture. “They look so cute together! That’s awesome! Hey, who’re you?”

Starath laughed, and replied, “I’m Starath.”

A different voice added, “Worshiper of Megatron, but then again, look at me, and who I love!”

Rattrap made a space for the human, and said, “You didn’t show me dat pic, Sapphire.”

And the fault its my own

The fault is my own

She looked at him, and blinked. “I didn’t? Huh. I thought that I did. Have I really been that busy?”

“Yep.”

Starath laughed, and said, “Sapph, you have to show him!”

She smiled, and nodded. “I will. I’ll also be talking to her tonight. Did you want me to tell her anything?”

“Just that I say hi. Oh, and can you tell her that Megatron really is a sweetheart?”

I will never know

Myself until I do this on my own

Sapphire blinked, then sighed, and muttered, “I’ll tell her that you said it, ’cause she’ll look at me weird from now on if I say it like that.”

Starath laughed, and Optimus shook his head. “Sapphire, we’ll talk to you later. You and Rattrap catch up. Megatron, I have a few things to do, to support this truce.”

“Meaning, you talk with Depth Charge.”

“Exactly.”

“Therefore, I pity you, yes.”

Optimus smirked, and cut the connection. Megatron looked at the girl sitting upon his shoulder. “May I see that?”

And I will never feel

Anything else until my wounds are healed

She handed it to him, and asked, “So, why were you asking about Dinobot? Didn’t you hate him?”

Megatron didn’t reply, but instead, asked, “How old is she?”

Starath retorted, “I’ll tell you, if you tell me!”

Megatron sighed, and then said, “Fine. Dinobot and I have known each other since we were in what you have called ‘school.’ Better?”

“Were you close?”

“Why would I tell you?”

“That means yes, and that explains why you had been so bitter towards him when he was alive here. Oh, and Sinead’s seventeen.”

I will never be

Anything ’till I break away from me

Megatron looked at the girl, who smiled self-consciously, and said, “I, uhm, kinda heard a bit from DB, when I was writing to Sinead. He told me about you, and all that, so I would know how to react around you if I ever met you.”

“Not to cry?”

“It doesn’t matter. I cry easily.”

And I will break away

I’ll find myself today

Megatron set her down gently, and looked at the picture of Sinead and Dinobot once more, before handing it back to her. “Has he chosen a human name yet?”

“No. But he will soon.”

“Hm. Be sure to let me know, yes.”

“Sure. So . . . would it be okay for me to come back?”

Megatron looked at the human, and realized suddenly, that he hadn’t thought once about his troubles, when she had been around him. He sighed, walked over to his hot-tub, got in, and replied, “Whenever you want. Just try to stay out from under foot. And stay away from Tarantulus. And Rampage. And Blackarachnia.”

“Is Terrorsaur still alive?”

“Unfortunately. It is also unfortunate that Scorpinok was the one that perished.”

“Then can I stick around with him? Terry, that is.”

“As long as you don’t plot against me, then I don’t care, no.”

I want to heal

I want to feel like I’m

Somewhere I belong

Starath ran over to Megatron, kissed his cheek quickly, then ran through the mirror. The tyrant looked after her, then sighed, and heard the perimeter alarm beep. “WHAT?!”

“R-reporting azz ordered?” Waspinator stuttered.

Megatron sighed. It was still going to be a long day.
