Shards
By: Commander Destrik
Prologue:
Ok everyone I know the first chapter is
rather confusing and you may not understand how it all goes into the Beast Wars
saga at all…but I might as well make a few plot points clear since a majority of
the readers I will assume have no idea of Mage at all…so I guess I might as well
start off with mentioning those things to clear up points…but first the Timeline
stuff so you all kinda get what I am talking about.
Beast Machines…didn’t happen
…I am not running off of beast machines for this story simply because I
haven’t watched to many episodes and I saw everyone get slagged by the end…it
was sad.
Since BM didn’t happen here
is the other plotline, although the Maximals did win the beast wars I am
running off the idea they stayed in order to prevent any further disturbance
to the timeline that they came from. In essence, the sparks of each beast
warrior stayed upon earth and became able to coexist with humans through
adaptations to spark technology. However most of the time the sparks only can
give an unconscious desire to the human host at the most, unless they are of
weak mind, fall into a coma, actually melded into the body by technology,
which is extremely hard to do. Or they are part of the human soul called the
avatar that awakens for about one in a thousand people. Generally they have
guided history since prehistoric times and actually have been the guiding
force for some kings and the sort, however, it is unclear as to which
cybertronian spark inhabited them.
This story takes place at
around present time 2000-2010, I started the story in Boston, Ma, USA since I
simply know the area. Although I do plan on having the characters visit other
countries…email me for suggestions at
slashripper66@aol.com
if you want something specific because I often will respond to fan requests
positively since I leave stories open for inclusion most of the time.
In the first chapter I need
to clarify that it is Megs who is the heavy set man, he is in total control of
his human host and…there's more…he has a wife, but I haven’t really made the
character yet because I don’t know what kind of wife someone like Megs would
have if he had one. Once again email me for suggestions because this is one of
them things that’s open for suggestions.
Hal and Rich are not in
possession of sparks and are lowly mages.
Tripredicus industries is
attempting to make new types of bodies to stop the energon guzzling problem.
So far they are a couple years from creating their prototypes.
All Beast Warriors do not
make their presence within the world known to the public in fear of disrupting
the flow of time which is still in question.
Sparks bestow enhanced
capabilities upon their hosts for most physical abilities. This is due to the
amount of energy a spark produces and it can damage the body if too much is
drawn upon with a weak body.
Humans tend to allow
cybertronians to act as citizens of the nations they are in, however not all
humans look upon cybertronians with respect due to the problems with autobot/decepticon
battles.
These are basic humans in general,
they are no different than others physically at birth or throughout life. The
difference in them as compared to other humans is that they have a part of
their soul in contact with the strings that make up reality. Once their part
of the soul awakens the soul guides them to gain more and more power through
using magic, until their power grows to this point where they can “ascend” to
a different plane of existence. Most mages need a long time of training to
ascend and many don’t’ even know they are mages. However once a mage awakens
their powers are limited and need to be trained. Typically one mage would
teach another of what to do in order to survive in the world.
Akashic Brotherhood- These
mages are from Asian decent, and are not very organized, they tend to focus on
strengthening the body and maintaining perfect health, they view drugs as
poison to the body. Their area of focus for magic is the mind. This area of
knowledge, or sphere, teaches the ways to become smarter, think like a
computer, use telepathy, use mind control create and destroy minds as well.
Oftentimes they are too obsessed with their own training to actually go out
and do something.
Euthanatos, or cult of death,
this movement started in England I believe and most of the members of this
tradition believe life is a cycle of rebirth, you are born, you die and are
reborn again in short, this kind of tradition tends to be the biker gang
stigmata of the others, aka: the bad boys. They focus on the sphere known as
entropy. Effects of this sphere include affecting gambling chances, decaying
things, increasing luck, and seeying laylines of people and how they
intersect.
Verbenna, these guys are more
like the caretakers of the planet, they become one with nature and focus on
the life sphere. Typically this includes shapeshifting, healing, making life
and creatures, and sensing life around them. I don’t know much about them.
Sons of Ether, these guys are
mad scientists in a nutshell, they have no life other than investigating
science and being trekkies…their focus of magic is matter. I don’t know too
much about it but yeah, one effect is pretty much engineering new tools and
machines and armors.
Dreamspeakers: I don’t know
much about them, they use spirit
Cult of Ecstasy: any form of
vice, they do it for pleasure, drugs, sex, rock and roll, whatever works for
them is their way of life, they immerge into the time sphere.
Celestial Chourus: these guys
are very well organized, the religious of the traditions, they tend to focus
into a combination of religions and focus on the sphere of prime: aka they
study a fifth essence called quintessence and its uses in magic, pretty much
one of the coolest effects of this sphere is making a lightsaber out of
quintessence
Virtual Adepts: these guys
are computer geeks and strange, they are involved with the sphere of
correspondence which includes scrying, teleportation, and hacking.
Order of Hermes: aka
Hermetics: these guys are the powerhouses of the traditions, they are the most
organized and were dominant during midevil times, they tend to be the actual
magicians we imagine in our minds sicne they use forces, or the fire water
earth and air portions of the world. They tend to be very overt in their acts
of magic.
Technocracy,
As the traditions support magic, the
technocracy delves into the opposite philosophy, technology. These guys are
typically the ones who try to keep order in the world and maintain reality in
order to make a so called perfect society, This utopia they dream of however is
one where everyone is controlled and everything is in order. In other words they
support tyranny. They have several factions within them
1 there is a faction that delves into
genetic engineering
2. there is another which focuses on
machines
3. black hats- the most common of all
they tend to hunt for mages and kill them. They are normally recruited in
government agencies like the FBI or CIA, and typically carry fully automatic
handguns, a trench coat that acts as an armor, and a black hat. These guys are
feared not only by mages but by regular people as well for their ominous
demeanor
Paradox
This is the counterbalance to magic,
the essence of reality which crushes all mages and some technocrats. In using
magic the fabric of reality is stretched around the person using magic, and it
tends to be like an elastic which wants to snap back into a relaxed position,
should a mage use magic that is too strong such as calling forth a large flame
or changing gravity or reading ten peoples minds, this force snaps back on the
user in some negative way, usually an explosion upon them. Usually this doesn’t
go so bad however there are cases where it damages a mages mind and perception
of reality.
