Possession
By: Sinead
Author’s
Note: This is the beginning for another one of my songfic series. I
don’t own Beast Wars, Rattrap, Sapphire, Sarah MacLaghlan, or the song
Possession. But I liked the idea, and I’m already planning for the next
series. Which, if Sapphire agrees, will start after this one. Enjoy!
Listen
as the wind blows
From across the great divide
Rattrap
looked over the landscape, sighing. He looked at the color printout that he
held in one hand. The face was of the girl who had fallen in love with Dinobot
. . . He bowed his head, then looked up at the clouds once, before turning
back, and walking into the base.
Voices
trapped in yearning
Memories trapped in time
A
girl sat outside her house, playing absently with her pet, while looking up at
the sky above. A call summoned her inside, and she set the rat in its cage,
then walked inside. What she had heard from an author across the world seemed
impossible.
The
Beast Wars actually happened.
The night is my companion
And solitude my guide
Rattrap
blinked at the mirror before him, then grinned at his reflection, posing. He
chuckled at his own behavior, and sat on his recharge bed, still holding the
picture. Dinobot was in it as well, his hands upon her shoulders, smiling . .
. actually smiling, happy, as he looked down at the human. Rattrap had
found this picture, while looking through Primal’s files. The Transmetal rat
didn’t care about how “unethical” hacking was. He had made a living out
of it, once.
Would
I spend forever here
And not be satisfied?
The
girl entered her room, and smiled to her mirror. The sides were obscured with
computer print-outs of a Beast Wars character, her favorite. A beep from her
laptop marred the silence in her room, and she went to check what it was. A
message popped up, from an instant-messenger service, reading, Hey, Sapph.
Are you there?
She
smiled, typing back, Sinead!
Hyeah
. . . HE’s here, too, so don’t forget to say hello to him!
Sapphire
smiled, and then typed, What, me, say hello to a slag-suckin’ saurian?
She
could almost hear the snort and muttered cusses from Sinead’s end, before
she added, I have to get to bed. Remember the time difference.
Yeah,
I do. Good night, if I were there, but good afternoon if you were here! Later!
Sapphire
signed off.
And
I would be the one
To hold you down
Rattrap
looked back at his mirror, and then rubbed his optics. Something . . .
something dark was in that mirror. A shadow passed through it, somehow.
As
he watched, the shadow split into many more than one, and began to move about.
They formed into a shape . . . a humanoid shape.
“Rattrap
to Rhinox.”
“Hmm?”
“Remember
da . . . dat girl?”
“Sinead?
Yes, of course.”
Kiss
you so hard
I’ll take your breath away
“Somethin’
. . . somethin’ like dat’s goin’ on with my mirror.”
Rhinox
smiled, and said, “Then let it happen. You never know what might happen.”
“Is
dat a good thin’?”
“Depends.
Rhinox out.”
And
after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
Sapphire
sighed, and then finished cutting out the picture. She turned to the mirror,
then blinked, and signed back onto the messenger service, typing furiously.
Soon, she was able to speak with the girl, her voice quaking. “Sinead,
something’s odd with my mirror.”
There
was silence, soon broken by a male’s voice. “What?!”
“Ssh,
DB!” Sinead’s voice replied.
“That
nickname . . .”
“I’ll
call you worse.”
Sapphire
looked over her shoulder, then swallowed. Someone was watching her. “Guys,
something there.”
Through
this world I’ve stumbled
So many times betrayed
Rattrap
walked closer to the mirror, looking through, seeing a girl, dark brown hair,
brown eyes, and a slender build, looking right back at him, an odd look of
apprehension wafting across her face. He took one more step closer, and
watched her, wondering if she could see him.
“Who
are you?” a female’s voice said. Her lips had moved along with the words,
so he assumed that she had said them.
But
he said nothing, before touching the mirror once, feeling a pull towards the
other world. Before he could fully register what had happened, he landed flat
on his face. His optics activated, and he saw the floor. The same female voice
as before said, “Great. Perfect. SINEAD!!!”
Trying
to find an honest word
To find the truth enslaved
“Sapph,
calm down. What happened? What was that noise?”
Rattrap
rushed to the computer, and spluttered out, “Kid, dat really you?!”
The male’s voice sighed. “Sapphire, you’ve been cursed with the Vermin. I hope you make him pay for it through his nose.” He paused, snickered, and added, “Well, what should be his nose . . . heh.”
“Hey, that was low,” Sinead replied. “Rattrap, yes, this is me, and Sapph, have a great time. Hopefully, you’ll end up with a tagalong, like I have, who worships the ground you stand upon. Or vise versa, but I know that’s already true.” Her voice held a smile. “I have to go, and get to work. I’ll talk to you later.”
“But . . .”
The male’s voice added, “And tell him who I am, once he’s ready.”
Oh
you speak to me in riddles
And you speak to me in rhyme
“Oh,
that’s going to be a fun time, I can already tell!”
“Farewell.”
“Yep.
Later.” The computer battery died at that moment, so she didn’t hear
Sinead’s warning.
Sapphire
looked at the bot, and he shook his head, then looked back at her. Neither
said anything for almost a full five minutes. Rattrap shook his head. “I
have no idea how Dinobot took to that girl. Who was that guy? Has she gotten
over Choppuhface that easily?”
My body aches to breathe your breath
You words keep me alive
The
author sighed, and replied, “Sinead’s never going to get over him.”
“But
that guy . . .”
She
said nothing.
“Hey,
whatsit! Hello?! Who was he?”
Sapphire
smiled, and replied, “You’ll know when you’re older.”
And
I would be the one
To hold you down
He
blinked at her, and shook his head. “Great. When will dat be?”
“Dunno.
Guys like you mature slowly.”
“Oh, that was such a wonderful comeback.”
“Well, I thought so!”
Kiss
you so hard
I’ll take your breath away
He
shook his head, and sat upon her bed. “Well? What’s da deal with dat
mirror?”
Sapph
belly-flopped next to the stainless steel rat, and gave the impression of
shrugging, as she propped her head up by his knee. “Dunno. I guess that
we’re not really supposed to know. I mean, Dinobot doesn’t even know.”
And
after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
Rattrap
froze, causing Sapphire to sigh. “She shoulda never told me. Perfect.”
“He’s
. . . alive?”
“Yeah
. . . that guy you heard.” She looked up at him, but he was looking at the
mirror. With a start, she realized that he was in shock. “Rattrap?”
He
looked down slowly at her, and then whispered, “Have you met him?”
“No.”
Into
this night I wander
It’s morning that I dread
“Do
you plan to?”
“Well,
if he tags along with Sinead, then, yeah, I guess so.”
“He’s
alive.”
“Mm-hm.”
“Slaggit,
he cheated.”
Another
day of knowing of
The path I fear to tread,
Sapphire
laughed aloud, and then smiled up at the Maximal, who was starting to glare at
her. She chuckled a few moments more, then said, “Aw, Rattrap, calm down. It
wasn’t his fault.”
“.
. . what do you mean?”
The teenager blinked. “Dunno, I guess, since even they had trouble understanding it.”
Oh
into the sea of waking dreams
I follow without pride
Rattrap
cracked a grin, and replied, “Scale-Breath can’t understand much.”
“Sinead
then has a problem.”
Rattrap
laid back, laughing, adding back, “In da few moments I saw her awake, den
I’m glad dat she did what she did.”
“What
did she do?”
Nothing
stands between us here
And I won’t be denied
“Actually
got him to smile, da stiff.”
Sapphire
smiled, and said, “Yeah, he’s like that. You should hear the way he
speaks, though.”
“Do
I wanna?”
And
I would be the one
To hold you down
Rattrap
finally stood, then walked back towards the mirror. With a giggle, she threw
her arms around his neck, and squeezed, then dropped back to the floor.
Rattrap blinked at her, the look on his face portraying the question he
couldn’t quite fit his mouth around.
Sapphire
smiled, and shrugged. “Don’t ask why. I guess that I just had to.”
Kiss
you so hard
I'll take your breath away
Rattrap
shook his head, reaching towards the mirror. “Y’know, I don’t wanna
know. But I’ll get you back for that.”
“Yeah,
try it!”
He
smiled, genuinely happy for the first time since the death of his best friend.
For . . . for Dinobot really had been . . . no, really is his best
friend.
And
after I’d wipe away the tears
Just close your eyes dear
That
is, if Sapphire didn’t get to him first.
