G1 G2 Int'l Singles Tourney Final: Dai Atlas vs BlackZarak!

Unread post by Outtsyder »

After sixteen competitors, we are down to the last two Finalists in the G1 & G2 International Conference Singles Tournament. And among the warriors who came from G1 Japan, Europe, and Generation 2, the last survivors would end up from Japan; appropriately, it’s once again Autobot versus Decepticon… or shall we say, Cybertron versus Destron! In one corner, it’s one of Japan’s Supreme Commander of the Cybertrons, Dai Atlas from Zone, who blazed his path to the Finals in similar dominating fashion as his only animated appearance. In the other corner, it’s Black Zarak from Masterforce, reformatted from his previous form of Scorponok, no longer a Headmaster, but more powerful than before. In this clash between the proverbial unstoppable force and the immoveable object… who will be left standing as the Champion?

This time, it's simple. You only need to pick the winner of the one match. As always, the trick is to pick the more realistic winner in this Championship Final, using the criteria that a win can be gained by (a) forcing a surrender from the opponent, (b) rendering him unable to continue after a 15-second count, or (c) destroying the opponent. The profiles of both combatants, and their respective road to the finals, are here once again for a reminder:

Dai Atlas (Cybertron) – Succeeded Victory Saber as Leader of the Cybertrons in Zone, and is a four-mode Powered Master Transformer; alternate modes are jet fighter, drill tank, and Micromaster-scale battle base. Strong sense of duty to his mission, dedicated to the preservation of life in the universe. Stationary base mode fires single- and double-barreled blaster guns; radar scanners detect and track targets for more accurate aim. Jet fighter mode reaches supersonic speeds and can escape atmospheric limits. Drill tank mode uses a frontal drill bit that penetrates through most substances; hull is resistant to most damage, and uses base mode’s weapons, as well as massive twin side-mounted cannons. Robot mode exhibits great strength and tank treads in legs add to ground maneuverability; can detach wings which refashion themselves into a Zone Sword for melee combat. Weaknesses are unknown.

{Defeated Soundblaster (88%), Leozak (100%), and Deathsaurus (57%) to reach the Finals.}

Black Zarak (Destron) – The Destrons’ Dark Emperor of the Masterforce series; the original Scorponok reborn in a newer, more powerful body. Still a Triple Changer and retains his (non-organic) Headmaster partner Zarak, but new body with built-on head eliminates need to connect in traditional Headmaster fashion. In defense base mode, equipped with target-tracking scanners and construction bays, and heavily armed with a variety of weaponry, including four dual blaster cannons. Scorpion mode uses giant pincers with incredible crushing power; tail stinger fires high-voltage blasts of electricity. Giant robot mode has dual blaster cannons mounted on shoulder modules; also uses a giant hand-held blaster rifle and a Zarak Spear for melee combat; ultra-dense armor is highly resistant to most damage in all modes. Slightly smaller size in new body adds extra mobility; desire for greater power may lead him to overlook minor details an opponent can exploit.

{Defeated Thunderclash (100%), Rotorstorm (100%), and Metalhawk (100%) to reach the Finals.}

And, as in the other Tournament Finals, for those who feel a little creative, not only do you get to vote for the winner, but this is your chance to write out a move-for-move description of how you think the battle between these powerful warriors will go! It can be long or short, concise or detailed. But make it a good and realistic battle, worthy of a championship final. Use the profiles and abilities of the combatants to whatever potential works the best, and keep them in character. And remember, this is a one-to-one battle, with Dai Atlas and Black Zarak using their own powers and resources. No outside interference. No additional reinforcements, outside of their own hardware (i.e. Dai Atlas will not be permitted to use the Zodiac power from the Zone episode). And… no need to worry about the "hero always wins in the end" rule in the cartoons. But if you feel like adding a little extra to your written description of the fight -- anything from crowd reactions to making it a cage match – if it works, feel free to do so.

The deadline for voting and submissions will be Saturday, August 26, 7pm Pacific Daylight Time, shortly after which the results will be posted, along with some samples from any written battle scenarios, to be posted on all five participating boards; The Underground Hangar, The TF Collectors' Club Forums, Ages 3 & Up's Forums, Ben Yee’s BWTF Forums, and Beast Wars International. You can cast your vote for the winner of this fight (and send your submission of your battle description if you wish), by e-mailing me at excellence-execution@excite.com, replying right here in this thread, or even letting me know in a Chat or IM. In the rare moment that we might talk in person or on the phone, casting your votes also count there. For message boards that allow a poll feature, I have also added a poll if you feel too rushed to type out a whole post. As usual, you cannot cast your vote for this match more than once (yeah, an anti-ballot box-stuffing measure). And on the forums where it’s possible, a poll option will be included for casting your vote also.

There are still a few days left to choose your winner for this Championship Final match, and also to write out your description of this fight. So if you still haven't done so yet, you've still got a fair amount of time remaining.

With the decision to wrap this up an hour early, the G1 & G2 International Singles Tournament is now over; comments were submitted without battle descriptions, but that mattered little. This was easily the most one-sided end result of any Tournament Conference, even though some comments felt it would have been a better match than the final results would have indicated. You could say the early closing of the voting deadline may be a TKO.

And now, the complete rundown of the G1 & G2 Int’l Singles Tournament results are as follows:

Round 1:
* Deathsaurus defeated Twincast: 100%
* Overlord defeated Ginrai: 63%
* Dai Atlas defeated Soundblaster: 88%
* Leozak defeated Stepper: 75%
* Jhiaxus defeated Star Saber: 50-50 draw
* Metalhawk defeated Skyquake: 63%
* Black Zarak defeated Thunderclash: 100%
* Rotorstorm defeated Browning: 88%

Round 2:
* Deathsaurus defeated Overlord: 100%
* Dai Atlas defeated Leozak: 100%
* Metalhawk receives a bye
* Black Zarak defeated Rotorstorm: 100%

Semi-Finals:
* Dai Atlas defeated Deathsaurus: 57%
* Black Zarak defeated Metalhawk: 100%

Championship Final Round:
* Black Zarak defeated Dai Atlas: 100%
