Cybertron Singles Tourney Final: Scourge vs. Vector Prime!
Posted: Sat Jun 17, 2006 4:02 am
In the last several weeks over the course of the Cybertron Conference of the TF Combat Tournament, especially in the Singles Tournament, there have been many surprises. Not only was one surprise the appearance of non-show toy character Cannonball as the Mystery Combatant – incidentally, the originally-planned character was going to be Unicron – but even more so were the results of some of the matches as the Tournament went on. Some of those surprises were so significant, that they paved the way for one competitor to surprise his way into the Championship Finals. In fact, yet another surprise is the fact that this Conference is the first one since Beast Wars to have a Tournament Final have neither an Optimus nor a Megatron! However, even without the decades-long iconic names, the surviving participants shouldn’t be counted out in the least, as they survived a 16-warrior roster and emerged as the two finalists to vie for the title.
In one corner, it’s the brutal, ferocious Dictator of the Jungle Planet, Scourge. His victories in the Tournament’s first three rounds must have left him with little satisfaction, as he barreled his way with almost no effort through the opposition of three very powerful and highly-skilled fighters. He dominated the upgraded émigré from Cybertron to the Jungle Planet, Leobreaker; then destroyed the Guardian of the Earth Planet Key, EVAC; and annihilated the Leader of Velocitron and owner of the Speed Planet Key, Override… and scored an average of greater than 90% in his winnings! He can only hope that someone must give him some sort of a challenge… and he just might get it.
In the other corner, it’s the Cybertronian Ancient whose combination of mysterious extents to his powers and an uncanny amount of luck have granted him the most stunning upset victories in the Tournament. Vector Prime has compiled a most impressive record, his victims having been Decepticon Leader Megatron, Autobot Deputy Commander Jetfire, and even the Leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime himself! Now the question must be asked; does even the unknown factor of the extent of Vector Prime’s mystical powers hold the trump card to slay the Dragon to win it all… or will the Leader of the Jungle Planet be the final roadblock that even the Keeper of Space and Time cannot pass? There is only one way to answer that question… you!
This time, it's simple. You only need to pick the winner of the one match. As always, the trick is to pick the more realistic winner in this Championship Final, using the criteria that a win can be gained by (a) forcing a surrender from the opponent, (b) rendering him unable to continue after a 15-second count, or (c) destroying the opponent. The profiles of both combatants, and their respective road to the finals, are here once again for a reminder:
Scourge (Decepticon, Jungle Planet) – The brutal and terrifying Ruler of the Jungle Planet, and a firm, steadfast believer in the survival of not only the fittest, but the strongest. Despises any form of weakness; bound by a code of honor in winning a fight honorably without killing the opposition, cementing the victory as being truly earned. Transforms into a wingless dragon that breathes super-heated plasma. Robot mode is armed with a large battle axe coming from his dragon-mode’s tail. Cyber Key Power reveals a pair of hydra-like dragon heads in both modes for a “Nova Flame” attack, capable of using his extra dragon heads to expand his firepower’s range. Extreme physical power is backed by great intelligence; few weaknesses have been determined.

{Defeated Leobreaker (95%), EVAC (87%), and Override (100%) to reach the Finals.}
Vector Prime (Autobot, Cybertron) – One of the original 13 Transformers; the Keeper of Space and Time. Acts as an adviser to Optimus Prime; full extent of powers are difficult to gauge. Transforms into a dual lateral-sail space cruiser that can reach very high speeds; uses an energy blaster hidden in nosecone. Robot mode is very strong; an expert swordsman with his dimensional sword named Rhisling, partnered with Triple Changing Mini-Con Safeguard (with robot, jet, and arm cannon modes). In both modes, Cyber Key Power unleashes a “Tachyon Shield” forcefield that repels attacks back to opponents. While one of the wisest and most powerful Transformers ever, linear thought processes prevent him from engaging in elaborate strategy; age can also be a factor.

{Defeated Megatron (52%), Jetfire (80%), and Optimus Prime (53%) to reach the Finals.}
And, as in the other Tournament Finals, for those who feel a little creative, not only do you get to vote for the winner, but this is your chance to write out a move-for-move description of how you think the battle between these powerful warriors will go! It can be long or short, concise or detailed. But make it a good and realistic battle, worthy of a championship final. Use the profiles and abilities of the combatants to whatever potential works the best, and keep them in character. And remember, this is a one-to-one battle, with Scourge and Vector Prime using their own powers and resources. No outside interference. No additional reinforcements, outside of their own hardware. Note, however, that Vector Prime will be permitted to be assisted by his Mini-Con Safeguard, and use a limited degree of his dimensional powers. While he will not be allowed to change time, seal Scourge away in a dimensional portal, or transport them both into an unknown dimension where Vector Prime will have a clear advantage… he can still use his dimensional powers in other ways, such as teleportation. And… no need to worry about the "hero always wins in the end" rule in the cartoons. But if you feel like adding a little extra to your written description of the fight -- anything from crowd reactions to making it a cage match -- if it works, feel free to do so.
The deadline for voting and submissions will be Saturday, June 24, 7pm Pacific Daylight Time, shortly after which the results will be posted, along with some samples from any written battle scenarios, to be posted on all five participating boards; The Underground Hangar, The TF Collectors' Club Forums, Ages 3 & Up's Forums, Ben Yee’s BWTF Forums, and Beast Wars International. You can cast your vote for the winner of this fight (and send your submission of your battle description if you wish), by e-mailing me at excellence-execution@excite.com, replying right here in this thread, or even letting me know in a Chat or IM. In the rare moment that we might talk in person or on the phone, casted votes also count there. I have also added a poll, if you feel too rushed to type out a whole post. As usual, you cannot cast your vote for this match more than once (yeah, an anti-ballot box-stuffing measure). And on the forums where it’s possible, a poll option will be included for casting your vote also.
