OC Inspiration?

Unread post by una »

((Since this is the RPG thread, I decided to put this topic here. I hope it is all right. ))

I thought it would be interesting to see how you guys thought of your character? What inspired you to create them?

I got my inspiration for Whitegrazer from a combination of my two favorite characters from other genres.

This is a great idea Una! :D

Wintersong was inspired from my love of big cats and well I love the season of winter. Her personality was more from my own personality of not always being a team player and wanting to be alone a lot though eventually warming up to new people after meeting them. And her wild cat or reckless side is just added part.

Snow Trix again mostly from my love of winter and snow, though I do have a slight liking to foxes as well mostly arctic ones. (As if that's not obvious :P ) Though her personality is something just created out of the blue.

And Terra is my love of discovering new things and observing thus the researcher she is. Her form of a New Guinnea Singing Dog I saw at a zoo once and thought they were absolutely beautiful and interesting dogs, especially the puppies.Though if you haven't seen them in person I have to say they are quite cute!Other then that that's all my character inspiration.^^

Here are the two characters I based Whitegrazer off of:

Jun Kazama from Tekken

The Boss from MGS3

The boss?! *coughs on drink in Snake voice* Heh.. ironically I was playing MGS4 since yesterday.

Icebreaker strangely enough is partial based off Naked Snake/Big Boss, and maybe a bit Shishio Guy. Icebreaker originally was kinda a throw in character so phoenix wouldn't feel alone on the maximal when she joined the game, then she left for awhile and he just did his own thing. I was originally going to also have him just function for the purpose of collecting new characters, but the maximals needed a field medic more then a recovery agent or survival expert.

His beast mode and abilities were even recycled from a older game with a somewhat similar character and same name, but that Icebreaker was more of a soldier and not a medic. Also most characters I develop tend to have a theme to them. NightShadow/Jet=Shadow/stealth, NaitoKage/Batmole=Lightning/Stealth, Novablast X/Drill tank Multi tailed monster=Fire/Heavy combat, Glowstick/Squid=Light/Support, Icebreaker/Penguin=Ice/Multi-role support, Daylight/Gestalt Giant Salamander=Light/Heavy combat.

Glowstick on the other hand, considering how many combat focused characters I used to have, I figured it would be interesting to do something else. So I intentionally tried not to go overboard with him. His beast mode comes from the fact I do like squids and cephalopods, as well as having a fascination with lights and music so the Firefly squid kinda worked. His weapon system is recycled from Daylight's lasers which were inspired by a military anti missile defense laser system and then thought "Well how would a organic laser work? You'd need to use something like a reverse eyeball.." thus.. laser photophores.

I originally wanted to have him as a sorta.. lazy Soundwave. Now, he's a Predacon commander, medic, radio guy, and ends up forcing himself to do things he was not made to do. He even had sorta a Otacon role at the end of one episode, controlling a drone and distracting the Maximals with fake radio signals while Steelclaw stole their base data. Which.. I think is partially why the Preds have yet to have a mission involved sneaking into the Maximal base again, they already stole what they knew ages ago and there really isn't much need to update the information.*L*

Hm.. though if Whitegrazer is the Boss.. guess that means she'll be wanting a Patriot(A assault rifle made into a pistol with a double drum magazine shaped as an infinity symbol) and knife. :P

For Sonar I would have to say... Image I based his twisted sense of humor and soon to be craziness from the him and for some reason, every time I write some thing for Sonar, I hear the Jokers voice.

As for Saber, I'm not sure what inspired me to create the tortured general. I'll have to think about that.

Yessssss. I love The Boss. She owns XD

That would be sweet if Whitegrazer can have that type of weapon...for defense purposes of course :P as my character doesn't like to use guns anymore. XD

Really? Icebreaker is based off him? That's awesome, NK! :D

(Man, I should really play those games again. XD)

The Joker? XD Creepy but excellent! XD Now, I have to imagine his voice. XD

Hm, Hard to say where I got inspiration for mine. They were just mostly out of the blue and on the spur of the moment. Frilla's beast mode I've seen several times and thought it would make for an interesting Predacon, although due to personality that didn't exactly come out as planned. Personality wise I just pretty much made it up and well I like to read a lot so a data analyst seemed fair enough. As for being a bit of a coward well I'm not much for fighting so there's for that and the fact a frilled lizard won't stick around long when it comes to danger. :D

Feralnight I definitely would have to say is inspired from being a Silverbolt fan but just not a noble person. I love wolves and think the black ones are kind of interesting. When I thought of her in the first place for some reason a raven popped into my brain and ta da a new fuzor was born! The strong sense of justice I just came up with as well though I really outta develop her past a bit more come to think of it.

Orcariner was really random. I made him because of the "no cats" rule so my original OC, Icesight (snow leopard sniper), was not allowed. I wanted him to stand out in a particular role that we haven't really seen before in the RPG. Tank/Stall-type seemed to work so I shifted the stats to compliment his role even though it leaves him with a lot of glaring weaknesses. I'm still working on his Season 2 biography and his list of weaknesses is as long as his list of strengths. Still, if you ask any player which OC reminds them of the words "support", "protector", or "big", I think Orcariner will be one of the first that comes to mind. His robot mode was originally inspired by Michael Bay's version of pre-Earth Optimus Prime. The swords were inspired from the mythril sword from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. Even though he's terrible with firearms, the carbine's characteristics were inspired by the M16A2 as well as the FN F2000. It has a high rate of fire to compensate for its weak individual rounds, but the terrible accuracy of the gun requires its user to burst fire the weapon.

His personality was initially pretty bland which sort of reflected his lack of experience. Orcariner has never been an individual due to his role as a student to a another character at some point or another. In his original biography, it was implied that Depth Charge was his mentor for a small time. In my one and only fiction, Icesight was sort of his mentor prior to his death. Now, Optimus Primal is Orcariner's unofficial mentor. While brief, Primal's death at the start of Season 2 will put the whale into a whole new position where he'll have no one to look up to other than himself. I have no idea how I'll go about this yet, but the character Nightwing (DC Comics) comes to mind. Dick Grayson was always stuck in Batman's shadow until he abruptly left to Bludhaven to become a separate hero from his old mentor. Orcariner certainly won't have the angst Grayson had, but I want to try to take inspiration from the bumps and obstacles that Nightwing went through. I'm also taking bits and pieces of other characters (OC and canon) and implementing them into his personality. Real people tend to assimilate their experiences with others into their own lives, and I try to do that to some extent with Orcariner.

I still find it funny how many soldier types don't use guns or are bad with them. I mean heck, DInobot was a melee specialist but he still ended up using a rifle, pistol, optic lasers and anything else he'd get his hands on. And yes, Orcariner is the first words that come to mind for Big or Tank like, though I always found it funny he's a melee specialist considering none of the preds can really do melee against him. Heck, if any of them were hit through the torso by the energo sword it'd be a one hit kill.

But since the operation to have a rival pop in for him failed, time for plan B.. even if OOP doesn't like it. Phoenix wanted me to have Glowstick develop some sorta power armor for the Preds, that'll probably be the case. Some sorta giant armored vehicle with humaniod qualities, though knowing Glowstick it'd be so complicated to operate that it'd need two pilots to operate it, much like the Takotank from BW2 requiring two Maximals to operate it. Or I guess let the Leviathan use Glowstick's sword in one of it's manipulators.. though it'd be like the Shagohod fighting a Gekko.. the Leviathan II is larger then Orcariner, specially in mass..

Heh, well Alak plays alot of Military games, more then I do even. I've played alot of videogames myself (Probably have more game systems then anyone on the site ^_^;) , but also am a nut for machines, robots, tanks, guns, motorcycles.. all that stuff.

Heh, well with your current firepower, you'd probably want to stick to non lethal weaponry. Stun grenades or rubber bullets. I imagine Whitegrazer would probably do well to have some sort of defensive weapon or defensive armor accessory to deal with being shot at so much. I wouldn't be surprised if Whitegrazer started carrying something like a Jutte Image, though a knife is always better to have around. :P

Oooooooooo pretty! :D

I never heard of those before but I wouldn't mind her having those. XD Also, I was thinking of her having stun or taser guns. One for each range. XD

Heh, have her talk to Icebreaker at the end of the episode.. I'm sure he'll help you get some things worked out.
