Superheroes

Unread post by Alak »

As many of you know, I've been playing MvC3 every day this past week. You could even say I'm obsessed with the game. That got me thinking about superheroes and why we love them so much. So let me ask you all this question: who are your favorite superhero(s) and why? We've all read comic books, played video games, and watched cartoons/movies. I'm sure everyone here has a favorites list. Here's mine:

1) Batman - Intelligence, willpower, paranoia, and technology all in one package. Even the campy, cheesy Batman is lovable.

2) Spider-man - despite having powers of a radioactive spider, I consider him to be one of the most human of the superhero community.

3) Cyclops - OPTIC BLAST! The guy gets his butt kicked so often nowadays but I still like the guy.

Batman and Superman are my two favorite superheroes. You already listed why I love Batman so much.

I love Superman because of his contrast to Batman. He is not as dark as Batman but despite of all his powers, he always gets himself into situations.

lol yeah, but those are the situations that only Superman can get out of. I can't think of any other character who could take on Darkseid, Doomsday, Mongul, etc. on a day-to-day basis and live.

Did you watch Justice League Unlimited? Question has the same voice actor as Ratchet in TF: Prime.

Oh yes! I have that show on DVD =D.

Love it and yes, I know that voice actor. I knew him as the blue alien in that Star Trek series with Captain Archer.

OPTIMUS PRIME

Allegiance: Autobot
Function: Commander
First Appearance: Transformers #1

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

Profile: If he had been on Earth, he would be a doctor, a mechanic, a scientist and a warrior. But on Cybertron there is no difference between these professions. So Optimus uses his skills to heal and repair- which are the same things to Autobots - to improve the world around him and, if necessary, to fight. Both in power and intelligence, he has no equal. He has the personality of an Abraham Lincoln. He can be immensely kind and his compassion extends to all that lives, including the creatures of Earth. Yet he will battle unceasingly to protect the weak and defend what he believes in. To accomplish this, Optimus knows that the Decepticons must be defeated for all time.

Abilities: In robot mode. Optimus Prime actually splits into three components. The Optimus module is the robotic sentient being that is the storehouse of his vast knowledge and strength. He can lift 1.58 kilotonnes. and a blow from his fist exerts a force of 83 Mega-Newtons per square metre. He carries a laser rifle and can burn a hole in the nosecone of a Decepticon jet fighter at a distance of 48 kilometres, aided by his outstanding visual acuity. His Prime module, also known as Roller, is a small cart-shaped device that he uses to unobtrusively slip behind enemy lines. He can maintain radio control over it at distances up to 1931 kilometres. Having Roller present somewhere is like being there himself. He can operate by remote-control his Combat Deck module up to a distance of 457 metres. The Auto-Launcher mounted on the Deck can use a variety of artillery and radiation beam weapons, including most of those used by his fellow Autobots. The Launcher also includes a highly dexterous grapple-arm which allows it to load itself and change its weaponry. The communications disk antenna mounted on the launcher provides a link between Optimus and all his fellow Autobots within a radius of 80 kilometres. It can be adapted to a satellite hook-up that increases its effective range 10-fold.

Weaknesses: Although Optimus Prime can function as three independent modules, injury to any one ot the modules is felt by the other two. Roller is particularly vulnerable, especially in the behind-the-lines situations in which he specializes. However, the Optimus module is by far the most important component of the trio. Although he could survive without the other two, they could not survive without him. Otherwise, the only weakness he could be accused of having is being too compassionate and concerned about the safety of others. He would be a more effective military commander if he were more ruthless, but then he wouldn't be Optimus Prime.

Superheroes? Uhm.. I'd honestly have to say Batman.. Simply because he's a superhero without superhero powers, merely stretching the limits of his human abilities through extensive training. His psyche is an emotional mess of paranoia, lack of trust, and refusal to commit to any women who enter his life. He is far from being perfect, which is a quality that somehow appeals to me.

My very least favorite superhero type? Circuitbreaker from the transformers saga.. I remember cringing when I saw her in a comic long ago.. Go figures.. I had only like 2 issues of the tf comic, and she had to be in one of them. :p

Having said that, I don't pay much attention to superheroes.. I saw a few of the movies that came out in latter years, only a couple of them were good enough to warrant a second viewing, and I did read my brother's old comics back in the days before I hit the teenage years.. Afraid I know nothing of Green Lantern or any of the others unless they involve Spider-man or Superman.. :(

I'm sorry, but you're all wrong. The greatest super"hero" in the multiverse is Deadpool  Mad as a Hatter, regeneration that puts Wolverine's to shame, constantly breaks the fourth wall as he is aware that he is a comic book character and pretty much the Waspinator of the Marvel Universe

^ that costume is actually pretty popular in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 DLC votes. If Capcom actually makes it, then I will undoubtedly pay for that outfit.

Dude, the more you talk, the more I think we're hive mind brothers or something. Not that this is a new thought, mind you, but I thought I'd share.

Everything Deadpool says and does fills me with un-containable glee. Especially in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, in which he uses his own life bar as a weapon. That being said, I was enthralled by the fact that they chose Ryan Renolds to play him in the Wolverine movie, then completely botched him up at the end. D: He's the "Merc with a mouth", not the "Merc with skin grafted over his mouth".

Or was it stitched shut? I forget. Either way, a not-talking Deadpool is like having a not transforming Transformer.

I really hope that Deadpool movie comes through. And if he doesn't look at us, the audience, and make some silly yet witty comment about him knowing he's in a movie, there's gonna be words being had.
Is the answer to this question "No"?

Circuit Breaker was created to be a villain for the Transformers, not a hero. In the end she was conscripted into the Super-human team the Neo Knights to combat Decepticons, but she was the only member of the team who refused to acknowledge the difference between Autobots and Decepticons and continued to attack either faction indiscriminately, despite pleas of protest from G.B. Blackrock. She only really became a hero 'by default' in the end because Blackrock had to slap her around and convinced her to attack Unicron purely based on her hatred for robots, and pointed out to her that he was the biggest robot of them all. While Circuit Breaker ultimately proved instrumental in Unicron's defeat, she didn't do so because of any noble motivation -- it was a concentrated manifestation of her hate for Cybertronians, which Blackrock exploited.

Spider-Man's been involved with the Transformers twice. Superman = zilch.

Was anyone else disappointed by Deadpool's incarnation in X-Men Origins?? Someone told me that the ideal ending to that film would have been for Deadpool to pick up his head, face the audience and say, "Show's over folks." ;) I still say Optimus Prime's a way better hero than that mutie fleshbag.

Like I already stated.. I'm not a comic fan. I only ever read those two issues of any tf comic that were passed down from my brother back when I was like 12 years old.. I haven't read more Spider-man than those issues my bro passed down, and that too was before I hit the teenage years. So yeah.. I wouldn't know who guest starred where and I really have no interest in picking up comic books at this point in my life. I really didn't know anything about Circuitbreaker other than that I found her utterly annoying (she was a whiny, self-centered, hating 'insert bad word here') in that one comic I had with her.

What little I know about the x-men and such things come from the movies. I did watch some of the animated Batman series though, but the vast majority of my superhero encounters come from the few movies I went to see. Hmm, I would like to add Iron Man to my favorites while at it. He simply rocked in the movies. :)

Also Marvel wrote those comics so the odds of Superman making a cameo were slim. I, too, was a bit disappointed with the Deadpool written in Origins. I prefer Nolan North's voice acting performance since he's so talkative to the point where my roommate can't stand hearing him in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer :D

Yes, she's not a traditional comic book hero. But if you asked me who my favorite superhero was, I'd have to say Buffy (with Dr. Horrible as my favorite villain...Whedon Geeks for the win! WOOT! )

But if I had to pick a traditional comic book hero, then Batman. For the same reasons Phoenix mentioned. He's special because he made himself that way through hard work and sheer motivation. I find Superman a little bit annoying. (I dunno. I think it's Lois Lane. She annoys me.)

Aaaand that wraps up my extent of the comic book world.
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.
