They lean in to reunite the passion that was devoid in their lives every since he left for Earth. Alas, before the mighty Depth Charge can give into serenity, his scanners light up with alarm.
Alert: Protoform X life signal detected.
He hesitates and she is clearly frustrated. With a look of torn indecision, the marshal finally relents to his destiny and turns heel. Ignoring her plea, he transforms and flies away. This machination of death has consumed him albeit differently than the other lives it had conquered. It laughs, understanding that its mere existence brings torment for the hero. A hero who's life can no longer embrace love and liberation. A hero who is now bound by the chains of vengeance.
Depth Charge will never end up with someone, because he's the Batman of Beast Wars. He is longing but lonesome. He shows compassion and indifference. The epitome of an anti-hero in the eyes of many, while bordering insubordination in the eyes of others. Even though the title officially belongs to the Batman, Depth Charge is a great classification of a dark knight. That's why this picture is so sad.

*chuckles* Nice interpretation, but I forgot to mention that Depth Charge and Misery are about two seconds away from throwing punches in this picture 
As cozy as they may seem, this is one of those split seconds of flirtation between the two that is overturned by the fact that Misery was responsible for unleashing Rampage upon Omicron. That does put a damper on a relationship when the Decepticon you're smitten with has plans for a revolution to overturn the ruling Maximal political body.
