.:War for Cybertron Discussion Thread:.

I figured I'd make a thread on this game so that we can discuss things like gameplay mechanics, things we like, things that could be improved, experiences, etc. The one thing that I would love to discuss would be the storyline. Therefore, I'll just go ahead and say this warning right now: this thread will be full of spoilers. So far, I know that NaitoKage, SilverFromOz, Beastbot, and myself have this game so far. Our job will be not only to talk about this game, but to brainwash everyone else on these forums so that they can also buy the game!
*money's not an issue*

I guess for starters, what does everyone think of the story?

I'm not really sure I can contribute too much to this thread but I have been hearing a lot of positive things and reviews about this game and it's got me very interested.
I guess for those of you who have the game, I'm wondering how is the freedom in this game? If you're a flying transformer can you just turn into the flying vehicle at any time in that level? And are there any transformers that can stay lifted in the air after being transformed into there humanoid state? The last thing I was wondering is how this game compares to freedom of flight to say an Iron Man or Iron Man 2 type of game. I'm just very curious about that aspect of the game.

There are usually corridors, tunnels, roads, etc. that will lead you to your next destination. Travel-wise, this isn't a free roam game where you can go wherever you want in cities like Iacon. Driving is kind of like Spy Hunter and flying is really reminiscent of Star Fox. Regarding combat, the battles are placed in wide open areas or very large rooms that give you the freedom to attack the enemy from whichever angle that is possible. When you play as a Seeker or Aerialbot, you can easily fly around as much as you please... just practice so that you won't hit a wall. In multiplayer, the maps are definitely made for vehicles and mobility. Even the in-door maps have large rooms for Scientist players to zoom in and out of. As for hovering, there are certain characters who have the ability to hover and drift (hovering also increases damage output). Most notably, the Soldier custom class allows players to select the hover ability for multiplayer. Combining this ability with the rocket launcher pod or the scrapmaker minigun will make you somewhat of a floating gun turret. It also makes you a ridiculously easy target
The Scientist class also lets you hover in vehicle form if you're not holding down the afterburner button. However, this is not a special ability and therefore does not have the increased weapon damage effects.
Oh, and you can transform between humanoid and vehicular form at any time by clicking the left thumbstick. This applies to both campaign and multiplayer.

In Storymode you can use hover with Starscream (His two abilities in the game are Hover and Shockwave which.. throws a shockwave of damage at enemys), which..can be useful combine with the Nullray which is a Sniper rifle. Easy for clearing out targets or on the ship boss fight but otherwise you'd probably stick to jet mode since it has more speed, mobility and so on. Plus unlimited ammo of missiles and vulcans.
Multiplayer wise Jets are alot weaker then the storymode. They have even less health, Nor hover in robot mode. You can chose Spawn Sentry(floating mini helper turret which can be upgraded to fire rockets or healing beams),Drain (suck life out of enemies), Shockwave, and Disguise change (changes red to purple and makes you appear as a friendly, there are perks where when you attack you get bonus damage after it switches off.)
Playing the Seeker mission with some friends they did say it felt exactly like Starfox, specially with the near constant barrel rolls during the boss fights of that stage. Jets do also have some advantages in the multiplayer, though their weapons arn't very good they can get to high points other characters can't and can do some sniping.

NK, lemme know when you guys finish Chapter IX which is the Aerialbot's mission. The ending for that chapter is pretty epic!

Wow, so this game is really addicting. I can spend months playing the same shooter over and over again, and I'm pretty confident this will be no different. I played a couple of multiplayer matches, and while I love the matches and I haven't lost a game yet, most of my enjoyment comes from Escalation Mode. I take back what I said about Jazz earlier and I hope he forgives me. He's my main bot and I can't ask more from a Scout who can deploy energy shield barriers! I prefer the Barricade combo where you can create a shockwave that damages enemies around you, but the stun ball is good at slowing things down and exposing cloakers. The highest level I've gotten to was 13 where the last survivor on our team was a Silverbolt who put up a valiant final stand against like 4 Titans... and killed 3 of them.
Oh, and before I forget. For those who do not own the game, here is something really cool that you all should see:

That's an edit of Stanbush's Ground Zero, he sung that at Botcon I think 1997 or 1998..

Really? I just thought he originally made the song for the Bayformers; didn't know it's that old. Oh well, it's epics nonetheless!

Yeah, they have video of the live performance of him from the 1997 Botcon on Youtube. Oh well, least he isn't chopping the Kickboxer soundtrack for TF use.

So I guess not everyone's heard about the whole pre-order thing because I've had a lot escalation matches in the past 24 hours where people messaged me or asked me on the mic how I got Jazz. I've seen similar "OMG" reactions to Shockwave players but I still haven't seen anyone use Demolisher yet (not surprised). I'm currently replaying campaign (co-op) to see if I can find all of the faction symbols. Oh, and I'm not sure if this applies to XBL, but the most users online at a time was roughly 7k on PSN. That's not bad, but I fear that months from now it'll be hard finding others to play with.

X box I've seen 12 to 16K at most. Yeah, most people didn't pay attention to things like that.

Alright Alak, thanks a lot for your information and I'm glad you're enjoying the game. One last question about Transformers games. Is either Transformers: The Game or Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the game) a good free roaming game? I think I'll get Transformers: Cybertron Adventures (why was the Wii version a different name anyway?) regardless but I was wondering of the other two games, which one was more free roaming friendly.

There's a certain degree of freedom in the movie games. You can climb buildings and run/drive/fly around all you want. Other than that, there's not much interaction with your surroundings and you'll be bored to the point that only the objective is on your mind. The multiplayer for ROTF is pretty legit, although nowhere near as fun as WFC. The reason why the Wii version received a different title was due to the difference in developers. The story should be the same with the exception of an exclusive chapter for the Wii. That's what I know as of now but I haven't read much about this particular version.
***UPDATE***
I accomplished two things with this game today:
1) I was handed my first loss in Team Deathmatch today. Ok, so this isn't exactly an accomplishment but it's a first. I had 7 kills and 5 deaths and was the team's #1 player. That's how bad we did
2) I lasted until level 17 in Escalation mode with a mighty fine team of players. It consisted of Jazz (me), Arcee, Air Raid, and Ironhide. I wish I could have remembered their IDs but my system is turned off so I can't list their names. By going past level 15, we all received the "Heavy Metal War" trophy/achievement. Although our rankings bounced around throughout the match, I ended up in first with over 9,600 points, 183 kills, and 2 deaths. I'd say I proved to naysayers that Jazz is a pretty formidable DLC character compared to the legendary Shockwave and the soldier-class Demolisher. Air Raid was the last to fall, and he made a pretty nice (and long) last stand against several Titans, COG Specialists, and a Tank. What sucked, though is that the very last enemy left was a Brute. I generally excel in melee and ground combat, but this guy kept his distance and tried to use rockets instead. Turns out, Brutes have more than just shields and hammers... they have rocket launchers for jets! Needless to say, Air Raid died.
