Myths and Legends

This is just out of the blue, but i find Myths and Legends fascinating Especially about Myths about Greek Gods and other things. Any body else find that kind of stuff interesting?

To an extent, I suppose.. We ended up naming our gerbils after figures in (mostly) greek mythology.. Archemedes, Achilles, Ajax, Alexander, Albion, Athena and Andromeda. We'll have to move onto B for the next generation. ;)

lol. I name my pets after TV characters. Heck i once named my cat Freddy Kruger then changed it to Bart.

Yeah, I like mythology too. Especially Greek Mythology. Heck, I even recently made an OC named after someone from Greek Mythology.

Yes. It was a religion once and all religions are fascinating. Hundreds of people believe in any one religion and you have to wonder, what do they see in that particular one or get out of it?

Mythology influences more of our language and culture then we realize. We talk of getting struck with a bolt of lightning when we do something wrong or getting hit by Cupid's arrow when we fall in love...it's fascinating how influential Greek mythology is. Not to mention how we've named planets, stars, days of the week, months of the year after mythological figures (Greek and others).

I like reading how one myth spreads from culture to culture. A lot of the stories are very similar. Kind of like how story ideas and movie plots are beginning to look much the same now. :roll:

I ran across one myth while reading the D.Gray-Man manga. The bad guy who is called the Millennium Earl who brings people back to life as akuma (demons) The aurther said in one of the mangas that the character was created by a person from a legend and it's said that the real Millennium Earl is still roaming the earth 2day lol I thought it was funny.

If a fat man in a top hat ever came up to me, I'd laugh in his face personally lol

I absolutely LOVE Greek nd Egyptian mythology! I love the notion that there was more than one God, that each God/Goddess had their own domain and story behind them, and finding out what words/affiliations originated from such Deities. The stories are just so exciting and...heck, I'll say it: magical!

Yeah, it is true that Greek Mythology that does influence a lot of things. But I've seen refernece to other kinds of mythology in other things. Like I know that Fushigi Yugi is based off of Chinese mythology and another series by the smae manga-ka, Ayashi no Ceres is based off a Japanese legend about women who came form the heavens. Not to mention I've also seen refernces to Norsemen mythology in the Final Fantasy games.
