Well, I was attending mass yesterday and sure enough, the original version of this passage is read out as one of the readings. Anyhoo, I started thinking (as I tend to do) and was wondering what the writer's intentions were when putting this in Beast Wars.
The thought goes like this:
The Covenant of Primus is very much like any other holy script (the Bible, Koran, Torah, etc.) and clearly in the wrong hands (i.e. the megalomanical kind) it can be used very badly.
So were they using the Covenant of Primus as a point about religious extremism and displaying all the bad things that come with that?
OR
Were they trying to point out that through faith and hope, good will prosper because "everything is as it should be at last"?
OR
Did it just sound cool and having Dave Kaye spout bible quotes just gave that extra level of epicness to it?
Your thoughts?
N.B. This is NOT a religious debate, this is purely about writer perspectives here

The covenant might have been records made by a time traveller, who witnessed the beast wars, and just thought it fit (alpha and omega, beginning and end, first and last, old and new [G1 Megs and BW Megs])

I vote for this one! I didn't see any other reference that could make me thing of any sort of deeper meaning. I also think it represents Megatron's megalomaniac character.SilverfromOZ wrote:Did it just sound cool and having Dave Kaye spout bible quotes just gave that extra level of epicness to it?

I don't think we can know what the writers intended unless we ask them. But all the options sound cool...Interestingly there's mention of a red dragon in the original version... and while Megatron's dragon best mode doesn't have seven heads or horns it seems like a cool nod in that direction.
I'd go with the first two options. With the third one on the side.

I always thought that it was a foreshadowing to Beast Machines. In BM Megatron thought himself to be a god, and this was clearly where it began. After reading the covenant of Primus, that is.
Though I like your first one, very interesting, and I agree! Anything in the wrong hands can become counter-productive.
