The Intergalactic Highway

I was thinking about something that Megatron said, in the very first Beast Wars episode. It was something like, "We will create alternate modes, based on the most powerful local creatures", upon discovering that they could not survive for long out in all the energon radiation.

Though I do wonder, who really chose the most powerful beast modes? For example, I don't think a spider or a big wasp are really all that impressive, all things considered. Although then again, maybe a big version of those creatures would be, I don't know. I just know that the real versions are actually quite tiny, and easily smashed.

However, I can't help but think that, in some ways--at least when it comes to size, muscle, and just plain brute strength--some of the Maximals actually have the most powerful beast modes, all things considered. A gorilla is one of the strongest animals on Earth, I think, plus a rhino is a pretty tough customer, too. Of course I believe that the dinosaurs--such as the T-rex and the raptor--could be quite strong or durable as well, in their own way; at least it is a possibility.

But you know, in some ways... I wonder how the characters ended up with the beast modes that they chose. Surely there were more animals around than those five animals that each ship was shown scanning, wasn't there?

Eh just some thoughts.

Yeah probably. But for how they got thier respective beast modes. I think they each got to choose what they wanted for thier Beast Mode. Mostly because in Beast Wars Part 1, Optimus did say to Cheetor, "You choose a good form."

So maybe maybe each character picked a form they believed would be powerful and/or work for them.

Well, Megs would have allocated the beast modes himself, to ensure that he was always at the top of the food chain (so to speak). Could you imagine Megs in Waspy's body? Hillarious but silly

Yeah, that why I believe which one got to pick what thier Beast Mode to be instead of being assigned to it by random. Though it probably would be funny if that happen. Honestly I wouldn't be surpised if Megs got first pick over at the Darkside.

Technically.. insects and arachnids to scale with humans or larger would be the strongest creatures on the planet. Tiger beetles and cockroaches make Cheetahs look like they're in slow motion, Herclues beetles could easily rip a gorilla apart limb from limb.

Then ofcourse there's things like this. Which doesn't need to be human scale. It flies faster then you can run, can sting as much as it likes, and it's sting dissolves your flesh and usually move in groups. Good luck squashing it.

Dinosaurs are not a bad but strange selection since even by that period dinosaurs were dead. Raptors were believed to be pack animals much like wolves which makes them strong, but better in groups since there are animals that can take on wolf packs alone. (Bison, Bears, Wolverines)

In the end it was mostly just selected based on the toys out to help sell the toyline, in the right hands any of those forms could be deadly.

I think that every beast mode is used as weapon and as personal touch. A tyrant wants to be big and impressive, majestic. Perfect choice was the T-Rex for Megatron.

Optimus wants peace. he is smart, strong and yet very tolerant, calm, peaceful. A gorilla was a good choice for him.

Lethal, fast, expert in combat and with a strategical mind: a velociraptor for Dinobot.

Fast, curious, cute, caring, playing and joking: a young cheetah

Fast, small, intelligent, survivor expert: a rat for Rattrap...

I think you know now what I mean
