Are Protoforms Made Of Mercury?

This came to me recently. I was thinking about the fact that the bodies of protoforms are made of a liquid metal. I asked myself. Is there even a such thing as liquid metal?
Then I remembered that Mercury is a kind of liquid metal and it got me wondering. Could protoforms be made of the stuff because they're just liquid metal?
What do you think?
Am I totally wrong here?

I dont think they are, maybe a similar structure, but its more of a circuit soup in my mind

Well, any metal can be liquid if it's hot enough, not just mercury.
Anyways:

What protoforms are made of varies depending on what continuity you're referring to.

I figure the metal substance has to be Cybertronian.

I agree. Since Beast Wars is fictional, liquid metal doesn't have to be bound by the same things we as the human race have discovered. Mercury doesn't seem durable, or mold-able (though Cybertronian inventions, could again, theoretically account for this). So I don't think it would be very helpful for sustained life as a protoform.
Also, I don't see Cybertronians having an entire elemental switch. I think it's safe to assume that a normal mode Cybertronian is not made (at least not entirely) of mercury. Liquid is simply a different state of matter, so I don't see how they would be mercury one moment, in one state of matter, and then an assortment of elements the next (that would require... nuclear fission and fusion).
As for what element(s) it would be, I like the idea presented by the pretender- minuscule micro-machines compacted into what could easily look like a free moving liquid.
EDIT: I just got the two comic series and the sourcebook in the mail today, and notice the following:
Magmatron says "...See how the pods and their precious cargo of replicating nano-machinery, protoform and spark become the spur for countless engagements."
Then later, when he is reviewing the pod he will use to bring back Ravage:
"Perfect Iguanas. A protoform blank. It's cargo of nano-replicators still viable."
Again, that sounds like micro-machinery to me.
