A Beast Wars movie anyone?
Well, since they're making a Transformers movie for 2007, it got me thinking; wouldn't it be cool if they made a Beast Wars movie? Just one more good adventure with some old friends, so to speak. I personally think it should be set during the story, not sure where though, but it could be set afterwards (although that's technically Beast Machines territory). I would think it could be done, it might be cool to have it set during Airazor's time (I mean c'mon she deserves at least a little more screen time) but that would also leave out some really cool characters and fun oportunities in the later seasons.
So what's your take on this? Would it be cool if they made a BW movie too? or should the story be left the way it is and not be messed with in any way? If the answer is yes, when do you think the story should be set? Any ideas for a story perhaps? I'll post some of mine later, right now I've got a bit of work to get done for tomorrow.

I want to see a BW movie. I had hope that the TF movie being made now would of been it, since G1 already had one. Instead it's G1:2.
If there would be a BW movie, I would like it to start around the final few episodes. Have it show stuff that was either scrap or never got finish scenes from the tv show, and as Primal's crew is leaving show what happens next on Earth. It would be kinda interesting to see if any pods had scanned any life forms, or if any of the Maximals or Predacon we thought were dead had lived and fought.
Or maybe if a resuce crew from Cybertron had been sent to get Primal's crew and capture Megatron. The Predacons would of send a ship to stop them, it could bring on a new series.

I'd be all for a Beast Wars movie if it's done really well and still had that all-ages appeal.
That being said, I'm not precisely sure how a BW movie plot should go like...
I did have an idea for a BW movie once that took place after the events of Beast Machines where the new peace on Cybertron was disrupted as a Unicron-sized Tarantulas returned to destroy the planet. Not only that, he also resurrected Tigatron, Airazor, and Depth Charge as his new agents to destroy the Maximals. Other than that, I haven't put much more thought into the plot.
Or I'm thinking they could do what Greg Weisman's doing with his Gargoyles series(cancelling the third season/The Goliath Chronicles) and make Season 3 non-canon for the most part to begin an all-new series/movie series that could take the Beast Wars story in a more consistent and better written direction. Some elements from Season 3 would be in the story like Depth Charge coming in and possibly something similar to Dark Glass which shows how much Rattrap misses Dinobot but the more undesirable parts such as Blackarachnia being able to beat up Rampage and Nemesis Part II would be left out and made non-canon. The guy I think would be best for writing the stories would be Bob Forward as he's been one of the more consistently solid writers in the show who's done the most work(ignore some of his stinkers like Go With the Flow). Heck, I realize the chances of this being made into a movie are unlikely and that it has a better chance of being turned into comic book format(like Weisman's new Gargoyles series) but it's still food for thought... so long as Simon Furman isn't writing the story.

Me! I wouldn't want one. The thing only works as a series a movie would be too much all at once. It's taken so long for the transformers movie to come out. They announced that like what 4 years ago and were still waiting. The reason? there having so much trouble figuring out how it would work. And when it comes out it will probably be a pile of junk.
Sweet dreams baby.

Actually, I went on tribute.ca and it says that July 4th of this year (I think...) it'll be in theaters in Canada.
It might have a similar date for other countries as not that many moves (that I know about anyway) come to theaters in Canada before other countries. *grin*
BTW, I would absolutely be psyched to see a Beast Wars movie.
Actually, I've seen something that said Transformers Beast Wars on a cassette in some movie store but the summary on the back cover was something similar to an episode so it may have not been an actual movie...

Notghosts, you can't just assume a movie will be a pile of junk while it's still being produced. Wait until it's released first, then decide if it's a so-called "pile of junk" after you see it.
*ahem*
Anyway, as for me, I wouldn't mind seeing a BW movie, but it'd depend on how it would work. The way the series is structured, there's very, Very, VERY little room to squeeze in a whole 90-plus-minute adventure without risking screw-ups to the storyline, unless perhaps it took place during the first season. Another possibility might be if they had the story take place on Cybertron, chronicling the events leading up to Megatron's theft of the Golden Disk. A problem for such a movie's success, however, would be the obvious "return on the investment" aspect of making the production. Like it or not, studios are not going to produce a movie from the so-called "goodness of their hearts" to a relatively small fan base and risk a big financial loss, unless there's sure of a large enough audience to support it. In all likelihood, a theatrical release would be the weakest option; the best economic chance for its success would probably be as a TV-movie or a direct-to-DVD release (a la Bionicle).
Incidentally, WW, these couple notes may help you out; the new TF movie that's being made right now is set for release July 4 of '07. Consider that producer Don Murphy only just announced that filming will begin this June... yep, not too likely it'll hit theaters this year.
As for the BW videotapes you've seen, I think I know what you're talking about. I have a few of them (they came out long before the DVD sets), and as you may have guessed, they're some of the episodes from the show, no new footage.

I've seen those videos too, and I opted for the DVDs instead.

That's exactly what I was thinking. There is more room for a tangent either before or during the Season.
I agree, the best shot would be a straight to DVD release.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, it would be really interesting to see the events leading up to the point where the Predacons and Maximals jump to Earth.

I know I'm probably in the minority opinion on this but I personally don't believe a prequel/pre-Beast Wars story should be the plot of a Beast Wars movie if an actual DTV were released. For one thing, it would be pre-Beast Wars so the characters wouldn't have their beast modes, but rather, generic vehicle modes. That, alone, would kill the purpose of calling it a Beast Wars movie.
Also, I know a lot of fanfic authors like to write prequels to the series with stories that concentrate on the pasts of the characters from the show. In other words, many fans would like to have origin stories for their favorite characters. While I have nothing against that being written into fanfiction, I am in the minority opinion on this subject as well. The thing to me is... Beast Wars is a show that screams, "NOW!" instead of saying, "Let's take a deep, introspective look into the past and what made these characters the way they are." It's basically a series that focuses on the present and doesn't dwell on the past too much. While I think the Protoform X story was nicely molded into a short, black and white flashback, I believe that making it longer would've just been more drawn out and exhausting. Short flashbacks are alright but longer past stories would only feel antithetical to the spirit of Beast Wars. An origin story or prequel being made into a movie just wouldn't feel like it would fit in with the overall "feel" of Beast Wars, which is a show that concentrates on characters and what they're faced with in the now rather than a show that goes back into the past to tell long, drawn-out origin stories that I personally don't feel is necessary for the context of a show like Beast Wars.
But anyways, I feel that a BW movie would probably work best if it was set during Season One, which is a lot more self-contained and can probably squeeze in a DTV if it wanted to. Then again, that would bring up the problem of it not being daring enough to really push the envelope in terms of storytelling since it would still be set in a restrictive setting that won't give it room to really accomplish much without the risk of drastically altering the continuity or contradicting the series as a whole.
Then again, they could always just start Beast Wars over from scratch in an alternate universe separate from the original series, heh(with all the same characters but just different settings and separate continuities).

Hey Outty - screw big companies making the movie, let's get our own skidplates in gear and do it ourselves! We have aspiring writers, graphic artists and VAs, right? Okay, so before you all call me insane(r), hear me out.
I was looking for an excuse to suggest this tonight wanyways, and this is why;
My dad just showed me the site for a fan series called "Into the Black" being made in Vancouver. It's a spinoff of "Firefly/Serenity", and one of the actresses is his best friend's daughter.
http://www.intotheblack.ca
The quote on the homepage "We loved the show, and it ended, and gorram it, we weren't finished watching it!" got me thinking about how we complain so much about the ending. Well, if we didn't like it, let's do something about it!
There were any number of stasis pods left behind after the series, not to mention the Beast Warriors probably had families that they left behind, right? I'm sure we can find wiggle room somewhere to stick ourselves and whatever plot we come up with in... And hey, even if we just did short 20-minute clips, it would give the artists, VAs and writers stuff for their career portfolios! *waves career incentives around*
Maybe just check out what they are doing, and think about it.
Okay, you can start calling me crazy now.

Everblue, what d'ya suppose the generic vehicle modes are? Heres my suggestions.
Optimus- A tram. Since optimus isn't like prime in everyway, and a lot smaller,he would be this.
Rhinox- Not a tank, but a van. Since he isn't bad yet,he would be like ironhide.
Cheetor- A sports car,obviously.
Rattrap- A beetle car. Like a new generation bumblebee from G1.
