TF Tri-Board Tournament - RiD Tag Team Conference: Open!

Unread post by Outtsyder »

This has also been reposted from the older board. At time of the board's relaunch, no votes have yet been submitted.

With the Robots in Disguise Singles Tournament in full swing, this week opens the match-ups for the RiD Tag Team Tournament! And like Beast Machines, with the RiD cast being smaller, only eight participants are listed in the Tag Team Tournament. Besides the smaller tournament roster, the procedure will continue as normal.

As usual, the rules are simple: the four match-ups are provided, and you, the membership, get to vote for the winning team of each fight. Capsule profiles of each participating team are provided, and you pick who'd more realistically win their matches. (Important note: The key word is "realistically". Please be objective and without bias in choosing the winning participants in each match. And no ties or draws; you MUST pick a winner.) A victory in each hypothetical battle can be gained by forcing a member of the opposing team to surrender, or rendering them unable to continue after a 15-second down period. Outright destruction is not necessary to win, but a very likely possibility. And yes, it is possible for opponents of the same allegiance to fight each other in later rounds.

In the event that the outcome of a fight's vote total is a tie, both teams will be eliminated, allowing a bye for their would-be opponents into the next round. If the tournament final's vote becomes a tie, a re-vote will be opened; there must be a winner.

And now, here are the opening-round match-ups for the RiD Conference Tag Team Tournament:

Match 1: Prowl & Sideburn vs. Dark Scream & Gas Skunk

Prowl & Sideburn (Autobot) – Two members of the Autobot Brothers trio; the middle Brother and the youngest Brother. Both have uncanny speed in vehicle modes, Sideburn’s Viper mode being the faster of the two. Prowl can adopt dual rocket thrusters in his police cruiser mode for added speed and short-range flight capabilities. Prowl has good strength, great intelligence, and strong police-trained self-discipline; is also equipped with 300-km range radar scanners to detect targets, and electronic jammers; primary weapons are fusion flame blasters, with an arm-mounted shield. Sideburn is young, brave and enthusiastic, though reckless; armed with a blade-edge energy pistol, and optical laser strike, and a hand-held missile launcher. While both have a good psychological bond from being Brothers, their contrasting personalities can affect their long-term strategy.

Dark Scream & Gas Skunk (Predacon) – Two members of the Predacon Trio; Dark Scream is an aerial artist, while Gas Skunk is a demolitions expert. Effective fighters when they can concentrate on the battle, but not always the best organized warriors. Dark Scream has flight capabilities in flying squirrel mode, able to achieve high speeds and altitudes; Gas Skunk can spew a gas from his skunk-mode mouth that can act as a smokescreen; tail is armed with a serrated blade edge that can cut through most alloys. Dark Scream wields a serrated-edged sword with great skill and uses a Center Laser blaster from his chest. Gas Skunk can also spew the gas in his robot mode, and fires a Right Laser blaster from his shoulder. Although good fighters, overall abilities are better than average; can also be duped with a creative strategy.

Match 2: Wedge & Heavyload vs. Megatron & Sky-Byte

Wedge & Heavyload (Autobot) – Two members of the four-robot Autobot Build Team. Wedge is the young commander-in-training of the team, while Heavyload acts as his adviser. Both have good strength and average speed in their vehicle modes, Wedge as a compact bulldozer, and Heavyload even stronger as a dump truck. As a young commander still trying to prove himself, Wedge has great courage and uses a double-barreled laser cannon as his primary weapon. Heavyload has immense strength, matial arts abilities, and surprising agility for his build; primary weapon is a jaw-blade formed from his dump truck’s carrier bed. Although physically formidable, they are inexperienced as warriors; Wedge’s youth can lead to a mistake.

Megatron & Sky-Byte (Predacon) – The supreme Leader of the Predacons and Decepticons, and his loyal (and sometimes hardlucky) Lieutenant. Megatron is a master of transformation, capable of six different modes; Sky-Byte is an underrated and powerful warrior with a vicious streak and an artistic flair. Megatron transforms into robot, bat, double-headed dragon, armored car, jet fighter, and flying hand-claw modes. Megatron’s robot mode uses a pair of energon bayonet-like swords; bat mode can generate ultrasonic waves; dragon mode breathes fire; car and jet fighter modes can reach great speeds; hand mode is capable of flight and crushing power. Sky-Byte can fly in shark mode; has massive strength as both shark (especially his jaws) and robot mode; armed with a dual torpedo launcher, a four-pronged Shark Spike, and a powerful Tsunami Blaster. Megatron’s bad temper can throw him off his strategy, and Sky-Byte suffers from inconsistent luck.

Match 3: Rapid Run & Midnight Express vs. Armorhide & Movor

Rapid Run & Midnight Express (Autobot) – Two members of the Autobots’ Team Bullet Train. Both are tall, strong, powerful, fast and very capable warriors; Rapid Run being the rough-and-tumble brawler and Midnight Express being more upbeat, though still merciless to his enemies. Rapid Run is heavily armored, perhaps the most physically durable member of Team Bullet Train; is armed with a broad-framed smoke grenade launcher that can double as a hand-held defense shield. Midnight Express, the youngest of the team, is armed with shoulder-mounted thermal blades, and uses a hand-held high-temperature heat missile launcher. Both achieve their best speed in bullet train modes, but as such, they lack offensive weaponry.

Armorhide & Movor (Decepticon) – Two members of the Decepticon Commandos Combiner team. Created by Megatron as an all-military squad, these two selected members being a combination of ground and aerospace attacks. Armorhide is heavily armored in tank mode, using turret-mounted laser cannon and enhanced by a dual blaster cannon. Movor can reach great speeds and altitudes in space shuttle mode; and is armed with a pair of extreme-long-range laser cannons. Armorhide is extremely strong in robot mode and uses a hand-held laser blaster; Movor uses a blaster pistol in robot mode. Can work together really well as a duo, but may feel less effective without the support of the other three Commandos.

Match 4: Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus vs. Scourge & Mega-Octane

Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus (Autobot) – Brother duo of Autobot Commander and self-believed Commander. One is a hero dedicated to the preservation of life and the defeat of the Decepticons; the other doesn’t care about collateral damage, as long as he wins. Optimus’ fire truck mode is surprisingly fast; has an extendable ladder with hidden missile launchers, and dual water cannon. Magnus’ car carrier truck mode is very heavily armored, and armed with the Blue Bolts multi-weapons pod, equipped with two long-range missile launchers and a variety of variable-caliber guns. Optimus’ basic robot mode uses a compression pistol; remainder of vehicle mode forms a multi-purpose (and multi-weaponry) battle station, which can combine with Prime’s body to form a super-sized Battle Mode, with enhanced armor, strength and firepower. Magnus’ robot mode has immense physical strength and the use of his Blue Bolts weapon system; is also capable of high-speed flight. Both can combine to form the giant Omega Prime, merging their strengths, firepower and flight mode into a single warrior. Optimus can be duped into making a mistake by a false show of goodwill; Magnus’ viciousness can be an asset to combat, but can place him at strategic odds with Optimus.

Scourge & Mega-Octane (Decepticon) – The two top command figures of the Deccepticon Commando team. Both have cunning militaristic minds and are experts in strategy and warfare. Scourge resembles a dark “evil twin” of Optimus Prime; Mega-Octane is a calculating military general and captain of the Combiner segment of the Commandos. Scourge’s tanker truck mode is highly durable; robot mode is armed with a pair of dual shoulder-mounted Barrage Attack missile pods, a hand-held dual-pulse blaster gun, and an energon-based Sword Of Fury. Tanker trailer becomes a heavily-armed battle station, equipped with a central rocket launcher, a ripple missile launcher, and an explosive disc launcher. Mega-Octane has great strength, endurance, armor and firepower in both robot and missile transport truck modes; weapons include a hand-held sonic rifle and back-mounted twin laser cannons. Extreme devotion to strategy can be thwarted by unexpected counter-attacks; Scourge’s extreme hatred of Optimus Prime may be exploited as a weakness.

To cast your vote for the winners in each fight, you can e-mail me at excellence-execution@excite.com, reply right here in this thread, or even let me know in a Chat or IM. In the rare moment that we might talk in person or on the phone, casted votes also count there. As usual, you cannot cast your vote for the same match(es) more than once (yeah, an anti-ballot box-stuffing measure).

Voting for this round will be open, until the deadline of Saturday, January 21, at 7pm Pacific Time. Next week, the results will be posted, along with the Semi-Final matches for the Robots In Disguise Conference Singles Tournament.

Fight #1: Prowl and Sideburn. Seriously... Gas Skunk and Dark Scream? C'mon.

Fight #2: Megatron and Sky-Byte. Mostly because of Megatron. Wedge is stupid, and Heavy Load isn't much smarter, even though I do like his grin.

Fight #3: Rapid Run & Midnight Express. They're bigger than Armorhide and Movor. MUCH bigger.

Fight #4: Prime and Magnus. It's a staple of robot anime that anytime the leader combines the enemy gets his butt kicked.

The results for the RiD Tag Team Tournament's opening round are completed, and here are this week's winning teams, with full results:

Match 1: Prowl & Sideburn vs. Dark Scream & Gas Skunk

Many believed the Predacons simply wouldn't stand a chance against any team they'd be facing in the first round. The random selection of two fighters out of the infamous trio (the third member being Slapper) wasn't much help, and against two of the Autobot Brothers, there wasn't much hope for a win. Despite their different personalities, Prowl and Sideburn had it better together, and cruised to an easy 100% shutout win over the Predacons.

WINNERS: Prowl & Sideburn

Match 2: Wedge & Heavy Load vs. Megatron & Sky-Byte

Most felt that Megatron's presence in this match gave the overwhelming edge for his team, and it showed. "Megatron's here to win," wrote RobotsInDisguise of Beast Wars International in casting her vote. With 89% of the vote, Megatron and Sky-Byte advance to face the Autobot Brother duo in the Semi-Finals.

WINNERS: Megatron & Sky-Byte

Match 3: Rapid Run & Midnight Express vs. Armorhide & Movor

Selected members of two Combiner teams, although nobody had a complete team to form their respective giants. Even so, the trains' size advantage was one of the major deciding factors in this battle, despite the military discipline of the Decepticon Commandos, leading to yet another perfect shutout win for an Autobot team.

WINNERS: Rapid Run & Midnight Express

Match 4: Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus vs. Scourge & Mega-Octane

This was the closest match result in the first round, and yet it still ended with a fair-sized gap. Pitting the common-grounded Decepticons with their military mindset, against the two Autobot command figures and brothers who don't get along, this may have been the reason for the relative closeness in this match: only a 67% margin of victory. Nonetheless, many would agree that, once Optimus and Magnus put their differences aside and get to business, they would come out on top; not to mention, quoting Beastbot from BW Int: "It's a staple of robot anime that anytime the leader combines, the enemy gets his butt kicked."

WINNERS: Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus

Next week, The Semi-Finals of the RiD Tag Team Tournament will begin, while the voting for the RiD Singles Semi-Final matches are underway. And even if you've never played before, you can still join in any time you wish! 8)

This week, we have the two Semi-Final match-ups in the RiD Tag Team Tournament! The winners of these two matches will advance into the Championship Finals, to be held two weeks from today. The first Semi-Final match pits two of the three Autobot Brothers -- Prowl and Sideburn -- against the combined efforts of the Predacons Megatron and Sky-Byte! And the other battle is an all-Autobot affair, as two members of Team Bullet Train -- Rapid Run and Midnight Express -- square off against the tumultuous duo of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus!

As usual, the rules are simple: the two match-ups are provided, and you, the membership, get to vote for the winning team of each fight. Capsule profiles of each team are provided, and you pick who'd more realistically win their matches. (Important note: The key word is "realistically". Please be objective and without bias in choosing the winning team in each match. And no draws or ties are allowed; you MUST pick a winner.) A victory in each hypothetical battle can be gained by forcing a member of the opposing team to surrender, or rendering them unable to continue after a 15-second down period. Outright destruction is not necessary to win, but a very likely possibility. And yes, it is possible for opponents of the same allegiance to fight each other.

In the event that the outcome of a fight's vote total is a tie, both teams will be eliminated, allowing a bye for their would-be opponent into the next round (in this case, the still-surviving winning team would end up winning the Tournament). If the tournament final's vote becomes a tie, a re-vote will be opened; there must be a championship winner.

Match 5: Prowl & Sideburn vs. Megatron & Sky-Byte

Match 6: Rapid Run & Midnight Express vs. Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus

Voting for this round will be open, until the deadline of Saturday, February 4, at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time. Next week, the results will be posted, along with the Championship Finals for the Robots In Disguise Conference Singles Tournament!

Match 5: This one's tough.... I'd probably pick Prowl & Sideburn, but barely-- the only reason why is Sky-Byte would probably screw things up somehow.

Match 6: Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus. Omega Prime could beat pretty much anyone in the cartoon.

Oh slag tough vote!

Since Megatron and Skybite both have the advantage of the air, I'll have to vote for them in the first round and Prime and Magnus in the second. Rapid Run and Midnight Express are toast.

The Semi-Finals of the RiD Tag Team Tournament is finally over, and with the stakes at the winning teams facing each other next week for the Championship, a pattern was found in the progress of the voting in both matches: A strong lead for the heavy favorites, followed by a late rally by the underdogs, which wasn't enough to win out in the end. And now, let's meet our future Tournament Finalists!

Match 5: Prowl & Sideburn vs. Megatron & Sky-Byte

There was some surprising support for the Autobot Brothers, though not so much for the skills of Prowl & Sideburn, but because some believed that Sky-Byte's lack of luck would jinx his team into losing. And while it was the closer of the two match-ups, it appeared that Megatron would have compensated for whatever lack of luck his shark partner would have. With a close win at 63%, Megatron and Sky-Byte were able to overcome the Autobots and win this battle.

WINNERS: Megatron & Sky-Byte

Match 6: Rapid Run & Midnight Express vs. Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus

A late comeback by the Bullet Trains was not enough to defeat the team of Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus, who took this match with 75%. A major key in their victory was stated before, and Stelartron of both The Underground Hangar and Beast Wars International re-iterated it: "... Oppy and Ultra Magnus can still combine, and the two Bullet Trains can't...". Thus far in the Tournament, Optimus and Magnus have been able to keep their personal differences aside and staying on task in winning their Tournament matches pretty easily. The question is, will they continue to maintain their teamwork when they face Megatron and Sky-Byte in the Finals?

WINNERS: Optimus Prime & Ultra Magnus

Next week, The Championship Final Match of the RiD Tag Team Tournament will begin in a new thread, while the voting for the RiD Singles Tournament Final is underway. And even if you've never played before, you can still join in any time you wish! 8)
