Premonition (One Shot)

Unread post by Haystack »

:) Hey guys, this is just a little idea that popped into my head last night. Enjoy!

Everything around him was pitch black. He seemed to be standing on something solid, but he couldn't see what it was. He felt utterly alone, like he was the only person left alive in the universe.
As if from far away he heard the sound of someone softly singing a melody. He cocked his head, listening intently. Several high, silvery voices joined in. The calming music seemed to swirl around him, caressing his audio sensors. The singing grew stronger, and a thin key of golden light struck the ground in front of him.
Is the light singing? Wow! thought the 'bot to himself. I would have been a better Maximal all my life if I knew there were things like this!
The light started to move forward, and he found himself willingly following it. If he didn't follow it, he felt that the ethreal music would cease, and then he would feel alone again. He couldn't seem to pull himself away even if he wanted to.
Boom. The bot started and blinked for a few moments. It almost sounded like someone was beating a drum.
Boom. From far away, he could swear he saw other specks of light.
Boom. The song was increasing in speed, as was the speed of light. He could see a hunched figure beating a staff against the ground several hundred feet ahead of him.
Boom! the 'bot started to run in a desperate attempt to keep up with the light. He didn't even notice that he was running through knee-high grass.
Boom! The distant specks of light were becoming increasingly brighter every second, and the music of the light was at its peak!
BOOM!
With that, there was a great flash of light! The music ceased. The 'bot found himself in a field that stretched out as far as the eye could see. To his immense surprise, he was not alone. Every Maximal and Predacon that was in the Beast Wars was there. He could see his own comrades as well as his enemies. He even saw some 'bots he didn't even recognize. What was strange was that they all wore the same blank expression.
Looking around, he noticed that Optimus Prime and Megatron were not in the field. He opened his mouth to ask where they were, but he found that he couldn't speak. That alarmed him.
As if obeying an unspoken command, all of the 'bots assembled in a circle around the hunched figure, who straightened, rearing itself to its full height. the 'bot suppressed a gasp. It was Dinobot!
Dinobot held his staff in one hand and a small wooden bowl in the other. He seemed saddened, careworn. He knelt down and let go of his staff. As he did so, he used his free hand to pull a small plant from the soil. He crushed the leaves and watched as the crimson juice ran into the bowl.
Dinobot stood up and dipped two fingers into the bowl. He solemnly marked his brow with the blood-red dye, then turned to the gathered transformers. He went up to the first one, Airazor, and marked her forehead, then skipped over the strange wolf-bird and marked Scorponok. He went around the entire circle doing this. Some, like Rattrap and Rhinox he skipped over without a second glance, while others he lingered over, as if undecided. He marked all of the predacons with the exception of Blackarachnia and Waspinator, and more then half of the Maximals were marked.
For a moment, Dinobot also lingered over the 'bot, then passed him by. The 'bot felt a strange sense of relief.
When Dinobot had completely finished his trip around the circle, a great shadow covered half of the field. Those who were marked marched into the shadow and disappeared.
Dinobot was the last to leave, but as he was about to step into the shadow he paused. Turning slowly, he looked at the remaining few 'bots, then handed his staff to Waspinator without a word.
Dinobot gave a last nod, then backed into the shadow. The last thing that they saw of him was his glowing red eyes, then they vanished as well.

Cheetor woke up with a jolt, sweat pouring down his face. He spent the next few seconds calming himself down, then lay back on his bed again.
"What was that all about?" He wondered aloud, little knowing that his question woulod not be answered until years later. Exausted, he turned over and fell asleep again, promptly forgetting about the dream, not knowing that it was a premonition.

The End

If you're wondering what the marks mean, consider what all of the marked characters have in common. The answer should come to you soon enough. The staff represents staying on Prehistoric Earth, which Dinobot said he would do in that one episode. (What was it called again? Graah, I forget. :x ) In the end, Waspinator ended up staying.
Anyway, what do you guys think?
