Everyone was worried about truce and they all had the right to be, but what was Optimus supposed to do? Decline it? Optimus had to play ball. It sounded so fishy and Megatron was the one who initated it in the first place, which didn't really give the truce any weight at all. Megatron was cunning in many of his battle strageties, ruthless, and manipulative. This truce was nothing but a time waster so he could see what the aliens had on that golden disk. She won't put it past him if he knew that they were planning on seeing what it was too. From the smile on Optimus' face, she knew that.

But this truce could be helpful for the Maximals. With neither side firing at each other, it could prove to be not as worthless as everyone seems to believe. War was all for thinking outside of the box and what better way to take advantage of an enemy then to turn their strageties into something the other side could take advantage of as well? What about talking to the Predacons? There were reasonable, strong ones that if one event happened could be on their side. Also, there were the ones that were not so reasonable, some plain crazy or sadistic and treacherous. Not all of them will, but maybe some can be redeemed.

After all, most of these Predacons were not their enemy. Who is the enemy, the true one? The true enemy is the one she wants. Was it Megatron, really Megatron or was there one deeper? Maybe she was overanalyzing, but through all these battlefields past and present she has been in, there were the pawns, kings, and queens who are being pulled by their chessmaster, the real enemy. Knocking over all the pawns, kings, and queens isn't the end, the chessmaster would just come back for round two.

That is the answer she wants: who was the chessmaster? Right now, she couldn't guess. She wondered if Onyx gave her message to Steelclaw yet? She didn't seem to have such assurance that he would, but she had faith.

Well, she would have to talk to Optimus about what she plans on doing privately, so he won't be left in the dark. Also, she needed to search for Saberfang. So much to do...she chuckled inwardly.

Cheetor's concern with Arachnitron was the same sentiment that Wintersong felt, but she tried so did the others and Whitegrazer did wish she should have done something or never left in the first place. But she did go and she couldn't expose Aurora to those battles. They fought valiantly despite the fact Arachnitron was gone. They all couldn't guilt trip themselves now. All they could do now was move forward and learn from everything.
""Perhaps if all of us send her our thoughts and energy, it will help guide her through whichever path she chooses."
She nodded in agreement.

Rattrap's argument towards Optimus was understandable, but Arachnitron was cunning herself even with all those personalities. Also, Glowstick will never let that happen. Glowstick was more trustworthy than Tarantulas, but if she got to talk to Steelclaw, she will have to ask him and make him promise something. If he kept the promise, anyway, was up to him. He was reasonable but still an engima. After all, Steelclaw hasn't shown regret for his actions or she hasn't seen it, but this was the same Predacon who was willingly trick her to coming into the Predacon base to either brainwash her or put her to death. Also, he has shown no feelings to shoot her up or her comrades.

That's why it is was so important that she talked to h--

The alarm blared a dreaded siren. Staring at Icebreaker's CR, her spark gripped with emotions of concern and the dreadful silence. She tried to reached Icebreaker's spark with what she could muster, but...his spark faded, falling away. Reaching for it became harder and harder like a hand trying to grasp a fish from a stream. It was gone. The spark was traveling to the Matrix and she couldn't stop it. No one could. Aurora was desperately hugging the penguin, crying out for him. Whitegrazer's features were sorrowful as she came to Aurora's side who now was just in a crying heap.

"It's okay, Aurora, Icebreaker was our friend, techincally family, and it's hard to lose someone who we care for, but we shouldn't fret as he is with the Matrix now where he will never feel pain again. Though, his presence is gone and will be missed, his spark will always be with us." She comforted the young one and gently helped her up off the floor.

She looked at Icebreaker's now sparkless body and her hand seemed to graze it over without touching it, "Rest now, young soldier. Your time has passed. Though short it was and cruel that your life has been taken away in a war so far home, a home you will never see again, the home we left behind, we take comfort to know that your memory will go on within us and your spirit will carry us through these dark battles, reminding us what and who we are fighting for and against. And when the day comes when we shall die, we will greet you and the other comrades, enemies alike in the Matrix along with our ancestors, ancestors long forgotten who died fighting just like us, dying for the same ideals and motto, "Till all are one...comrade. Till all are one."

Whitegrazer bowed her head and closed her optics. It was the eulogy she always told towards her comrades who passed away in battle. She told it so many times that it was bred into her memory. This is the first time she had said it in front of everyone on the Axalon. She usually does it over the bodies like Nightmist's but it was in private. Doing it over Icebreaker's now wasn't what she expected.

I will take care of the tools you have given me, friend. Thank you.

Of course those Maximals will be coming around soon enough and all of you I'm sure can still make use of no use of firearms."
Arachnitron was surprised to hear the Predacon commander mention the news about a truce with the Maximals. Her grin faded to a scowl and she narrowed her red optics suspiciously. It seemed that, if her first impressions of his nature were correct, he probably had an ulterior motive. If his motive had been peace with the Maximals, he wouldn't have pointed out that this was a mere cease-fire. She was not happy about it, but at least they could still fight the Maximals. They just couldn't shoot them. It was small consolation that he said "for the time being" which implied that an end was expected. She was intrigued by his secretiveness and his mysterious demeanor. He was quite cunning.

Like herself, the other Predacons were less than thrilled. Surprisingly enough, this time around, they were much more outspoken than she. The black panther femme spoke up first crying out:
starshadow wrote:"Wait..a truce? after being enemies for years, you want a truce all of a sudden? What is your defect? I bet the original Megatron wouldn't approve that. besides that, most of you aren't trained in close combat. How are we going to defend ourselves or the base if they're going to try something infiltrating the base or even attack us since there's a flying giant whale in their team. if this situation gets out of hand because of your unwise decision, remember the first rule of leadership..every mistake a minion has made is his leader's fault."
"The original Megatron?" Was this bot, like Optimus, named after another? She figured it only made sense that the leader of the Maximals, descendants of the Autobots, was named after the Autobot leader....and the leader of the Predacons, descendants of the Decepticons, was named after the Decepticon leader. The large purple dinosaur must be called Megatron. And of course....he was a Tyrannosaurus Rex....the Tyrant lizard....she imagined that was most definitely an understatement.

After the panther's outburst, the fox added sardonically:
Wintersong wrote: "Great we'll be sharing energon next, maybe even sharing old war stories like old friends, sounds like fun."
Arachnitron snickered in response. Though she agreed whole-heartedly, a snicker was the only thing she'd muster at the moment. Not that she was exercising caution out of fear; she just was more interested in seeing how all this truce nonsense played out. Curiosity may have killed the proverbial cat, but the spider thrived on it.

"On it,"
While Cheetor made haste to Icebreaker's repair chamber, Optimus looked to Aurora.
"Sir? I would like to go with you when you go to see Megatron about this."
Primal gave some thought to her request, and was about to answer her when Cheetor took back his attention. At the same time, his panicked words probably alerted everyone.
"Big 'Bot!" "This isn't good. All his vital signs are cr..." "...Cr-critical. And they're getting worse!"
The Maximal leader immediately started to walk over to the cheetah, fearing the worst, but Aurora easily zipped by him and beat him to the next Maximal they were about to lose in this war.
"No!,"
Watching Aurora's reaction to such a tragic loss, emotions were running high in Optimus as well. For a moment, when he approached Cheetor, he gently laid a hand on his shoulder before taking it back and looking at Icebreaker inside of the opened CR chamber. Seeming to stare into the abyss, anger and outrage quickly grew within Primal, like a violent tornado. Balling his fists as if squeezing every bit of air from between his fingers and palms, and clenching his jaws, he couldn't help but feel responsible. Meet Megatron for a truce? FOOL! he screamed at himself in his head. There never was a truce! Megatron deliberately pulled Optimus away from his Maximals so his Predacons could infiltrate their base and senselessly take one of his friend's lives! AND FOR WHAT?! To capture Arachnitron? To try and rescue Nemesis? He should've been here! It was like losing Nightmist all over again. Nightmist. Because of her loss, Aurora was here, who was now losing the one who made her existance possible, and who cared for her so deeply. As his thoughts wandered, his rage was rapidly replaced with sorrow and grief.

Seeing Aurora embrace the motionless penguin and fall to the floor weeping beside him, Primal realized he had to push his own regret and distress aside and try to comfort the young ermine Fuzor who should not have to witness such a tragedy at her age. Kneeling down beside her just as Whitegrazer was walking over, Optimus looked at Aurora with quiet optics that were filled with so much sadness and then wrapped his arms around her. His voice, although trembling a little with the pain that they were all experiencing, was soft and consoling when he spoke quietly close to her audio receptor, almost in a whisper. "I'm so sorry, Aurora. I know how close Icebreaker was to you. Forgive me." He wished he could take Icebreaker's place to ease her anguish. He should not have died. Whether this was intentional or not, it was completely irrational and incongruous. The head injury that Icebreaker had sustained must have been much more serious than he realized, and with all of the fluid and energy he lost, it must have been too much for his spark to handle. Whether they had the CR try to repair him, or someone manually operate on him, there wouldn't have been enough time. Too much was lost too suddenly. Releasing Aurora, Primal looked up at Whitegrazer while her words held much more meaning and comfort than he could have provided.
"It's okay, Aurora, Icebreaker was our friend, techincally family, and it's hard to lose someone who we care for, but we shouldn't fret as he is with the Matrix now where he will never feel pain again. Though, his presence is gone and will be missed, his spark will always be with us."
As the taller, white Maximal assisted the younger Fuzor to her feet, Optimus also stood up between Whitegrazer and Cheetor, keeping his gaze on the mare before turning to Icebreaker and bowing his head, darkening his optics.
"Rest now, young soldier.
Her words were so beautiful, piercing his spark. It was as if she had rehearsed them before, and that was likely so. Such a sad thought. Primal's knees felt weak, and his scarred hand ached. Stress, fear, sadness, anger, love, devastation. So many emotions swirled inside that it was overwhelming. The Maximal Commander tried so hard to hold himself together. Another loss. Another Maximal gone under his command. Another spark, that was full of kindness and selflessness, extinguished. Precisely the kind of spark that they needed. He couldn't even imagine the effect this would have on Orcariner once his repairs were complete. Out of everyone, the orca probably spent the most time with his fellow aquatic teammate - in battles as well as off duty - and more than likely knew him better than any of them did. Primus. On the verge of breaking down, Optimus remembered after losing Nightmist how important it was for him to be strong and to keep the moral of his crew up as high as he could despite the circumstances. As his optics illuminated and he lifted his head, he looked at Whitegazer and cleared his throat before saying softly, "Whitegrazer, could you take Icebreaker's body to the infirmary?"
"Long as we have something Optimus."
"That makes two of our comrades gone."
"Icebreaker may be gone, but we won't be forgetting him any time soon or ever."
Optimus glanced at Frilla, Wintersong and Feralnight, offering them a small but warm smile. Very small.

(( OOC: I was going to have OP start dishing out orders, but I think I've written enough for him right now, so I'm going to let others react to everything before I keep rolling. ))

-----

Rattrap remained surprisingly quiet through the whole "ceremony." He remembered the jokes he and Icebreaker had shared and the missions they worked on together. It was extremely sad so this was no time for smart remarks. He knew better. He had placed himself near the group surrounding the penguin's shell, watching and listening. Whitegrazer certainly had a way with words which calmed even his own spark, and he paid his respects to their lost friend, silently in his own way. Everyone handled it differently, and Rattrap wasn't one to show as much affection as Optimus, 'Grazer or Aurora did, but he still cared, and he worried how his niece-like comrade would handle this development. It was always a sad thing to experience. Although their fearless leader seemed to be taking the blame for this loss, the Maximal Spy recalled who it was who shot Icebreaker and did this to him according to Wintersong. Of all the Predacons it was Steelclaw. Since he had the feeling that Optimus was purposely avoiding pinning this on a Predacon for the sake of keeping his crew from jumping into revenge and doing something they would certainly regret, the rat kept his mouth shut. There were probably only a few of them there that knew who shot Icebreaker, and as angry as Rattrap was about this whole outcome, he knew better than to practice an eye-for-an-eye; it wasn't what their leader would do.

Noticing the honey badger leaving rather prematurely, Rattrap hurried after him. "Hey, Ironclaw," he called to him, catching up to him. "You, uh... You all right? Don't go wanderin' too far 'cause I think Optimus is still gonna want ta talk to ya." He tried convincing the badger to not run off this time and disappear. Maybe he needed some time alone after something like this, but right now Optimus needed everyone and he knew it wouldn't be long before he'd get back on track and working on his plans that he mentioned he had earlier. It also wouldn't be a good idea to make him look for him.

-----

"Till all are one," Tigatron softly repeated Whitegrazer's last sentence, like an ending to a prayer. He bowed his head next to Airazor and fell silent for a little while.

(( OOC: Bah! Getting late. Gotta wrap this up. ))

Onyx looked away from the tyrant, still feeling horror in his spark at the punishment, and likely what was to come for others if they were to undermine Megatron as he said. The threat was there and the stallion wasn't about to try something stupid at the moment, nor risky like he had when he snuck off to explore instead of going with the other Predacons so he merely tried to turn his attention to something else to try and distract from the troubling scene. Though his optics came to Steelclaw who almost seemed fairly mournful looking about the scene and deciding it was better then listening to any further arguments he moved the hoverboard over and stepped off,"Mind a helping hand Steelclaw?"

He kneeled down and picked up some remaining items the now deceased squid had once carried with him, pushing the thoughts aside for the time being and he looked towards the other Predacons who didn't care in the least for a lost comrade. "And Steelclaw if you have a klik or two I need to talk to you real quick."He added, remembering he had promised Whitegrazer he would pass on her message for the bear.

Megatron narrowed his eyes at Starshadow as he stood, growing quite annoyed with the feline's attitude,"Temporary truce Starshadow, and where in my sentence did I say you couldn't enjoy fighting the Maximals? You can still fight but without the use of firearms, that is for now, and yes I have something planned but as of right now is of no concern to you."He said in a dark tone, raising the head of his right hand that contained his fusion cannon,"Though I am growing very little patience with you feline, so I suggest you watch your tongue or you just might be meeting the lava pits next."He growled.

Looking towards the Predacons once more he saw nothing more to say to them, and it seemed they had nothing further to report though he would be keeping an optic on them still, especially their new recruits. Another spider made him a little suspicious of Arachnitron, the other two already proving to be mere treacherous underlings themselves, and he was almost tempted to be rid of them once and for all but then again he still had a need for pawns so he dealt with them for the time being."All of you are dismissed, and do know I will be watching." He said with yet another underlying threat before he moved to a hover board and headed towards the opposite hall that lead to his private quarters, having more important things to do then deal with his underlings any further.

Being alone had Saber plunty of time to think and she had come to realize that her place with the Maximals. Yes, she felt at peace in the wilds even the creature felt at peace, but trying to gain an understand of the creature inside her alone was the wrong way to do it. She needed help to gain control over this dark part of her and the only way to do that was with the aid if the Maximals.

I have to go back. I ran from thier help once and can't do it again, I have to take a leap of faith and trust them. She thought, getting out of the tree she was resting in.

After rolling her shoulders, she headed in the direction of the Maximal base, unaware what had transpired there while she was gone.

It wasn't about the enjoyment of fighting even without firearms, it was that we could not stand a chance in melee combat against the Maximals when Orcariner could treat us like little tin cans. Starshadow thought.
"Though I am growing very little patience with you feline, so I suggest you watch your tongue or you just might be meeting the lava pits next."
Just try it. Killing me won't lead you to victory in this war. I would like to see you try...At least it would give me a reason for leaving... the femme growled like a panther as she watched Megatron leave the rest of the Predacons to do their own things. "Slagger..."

Looking at Steelclaw who was mournfully picking up Glowstick's supplies, she walked towards him and knelt down and put a hand on his shoulder, "It's going to be alright...I know how it feels..if I were you, I would seek vengeance, but that's just me." Turning to the new recruit, it was another spider...

"Your name, recruit?" she asked.

Aurora initially paid no heed as the other Maximals started arriving and gathered around the now opened CR chamber. Her full attention was on Icebreaker, so the words of the others merely sounded like a blurry whisper going by. As she slowly regained a perspective of her surroundings, Aurora briefly glanced over at the others who had gathered as well. Despite the obvious grief, there was also a strange sensation of tranquility among the crew. None of them had gone on a tantrum yet, although Aurora suspected some may be holding back their feelings for a time they could be alone. For now they were holding strong.

Whitegrazer walked over to help her off the floor and Aurora grudgingly let go of Icebreaker as she did. She avoided looking straight at anyone including the white mare.
Whitegrazer wrote:"It's okay, Aurora, Icebreaker was our friend, techincally family, and it's hard to lose someone who we care for, but we shouldn't fret as he is with the Matrix now where he will never feel pain again. Though, his presence is gone and will be missed, his spark will always be with us."
For once the tall female's words held little comfort. If anything Aurora almost found them a tiny bit insulting given the recent nature of Icebreaker's death.

"Okay?," she repeated, barely bringing her voice above a choked whisper. "No.. It's not okay. Nothing about this is okay.. He is dead and he shouldn't be."

Death was not something Aurora was accustomed to and she wasn't sure about the old stories of sparks joining the matrix holding merit. Perhaps it was just too soon for her to decide what she believed, since she'd never really gotten a chance to experience such grief before.

The little fuzor remained silent as Whitegrazer proceeded to quote a fitting farewell to the penguin, merely staring blankly in the general direction of the CR chamber. A short distance away she could vaguely make out Primal's voice as he moved in for a comforting embrace.
"I'm so sorry, Aurora. I know how close Icebreaker was to you. Forgive me."
Forgive him..? For what?

She pondered his words in silence for a moment before realizing that Primal always took events that happened to his Maximals upon himself, a trait which could be considered both his greatest strength as well as weakness. Not finding the right words to form a good response, she turned her gaze in Primal's direction and offered him a faint reassuring smile. At the moment she felt too powerless to even imagine what the future could bring.

Albeit she had not protested when Primal offered a hug, she did not have the strength to return it properly right now. Nor did she reject the approach. So she merely stood there, on shaky legs, leaning against the Maximal commander. It felt soothing in a sense, yet the entire situation was still unreal to her and undoubtedly many of the others who had gathered as well.

Part of her wanted to protest when Primal asked Whitegrazer to move Icebreaker's body, but they couldn't very well leave him where he was right now either. So she remained silent.

(ooc: NK did say anyone could pick up his canon characters so I'm sure it's all right that you post as Tarantulas until we decide who's taking over the character. :)

Edit: I'm just a tiny bit confused about whether Primal or Whitegrazer arrived first. Una posted first about it so in my initial response I had assumed Whitegrazer was the first of the two to help Aurora off the floor.)

(( OOC: Poor Aurora. :( Nicely written, Phoenix. Such a terrible way to feel the reality of war for such a young Maximal. Very sad. It took me a long time writing my post last night. Two hours or so, I think. Did she refuse OP's hug? :( I had no idea which way you would go with her, but I thought it would be a good idea for him to give her some kind of comfort without words.

I'm sorry, una, I was so wrapped up in writing my post that I forgot to respond to your question. I agree with Phoenix. You may do what you need to with Tarantulas. He and Rhinox are up for grabs again. ))

(( OOC: Thanks, Phoenix. And sorry about the confusion, that's my fault. Even though Cheetor had called only Optimus over to the CR, Aurora could have fluttered by like she did, but I thought OP would reach it before Whitegrazer. So even though una was "next" in line to post, I still thought OP should've gotten there before her, so that's why I kind of squeezed him in with Aurora in my post, and then wrote for his reactions to Whitegrazer. In either case, he wasn't helping Aurora off the floor after he hugged her because by the that point in my post Whitegrazer had already come over to help her up. Does that make any sense? I just wanted the chance for OP to kneel down and give Aurora a big old hug since she had hugged him before. ))

(Ooc:okie, thanks for clarifying! The way I saw it Aurora had not waited for Cheetor to report back but rather rushed to the CR chamber when the alarm sounded in the first place when Primal asked Cheetor to check it out. I doubt she would have waited for him to report back before checking it out for herself. :) But all is good now.)

Ironclaw heard Rattrap behind him and stopped. He turned to look him while thinking of Aurora.

"I'm not going far, I'll be ready for what Optimus wants me to do" he didnt convey any feelings he had while he answered Rattrap.

Right then he wasn't sure what to do with himself. "I'll wait here for Optimus" he said coming to a decision.

Frilla bowed her head mournfully after hearing Whitegrazer's words, yet there was little else they could to except get through whatever was to come. But the frilled lizard now was sure she would have to far more on her guard then she was today. She had always questioned herself to what she would do if she did confront her old teammates in a situation like that and she had done nothing, which made her feel like she could have done better. There were times to be a coward but other times you just had to step up and fight, get out of your comfort zone.

'I can't be a coward forever.' Frilla told herself, especially with the way things were turning now.

Feralnight bowed her head as the others did, though this mournful time wouldn't be for long. There was most likely some there who were furious with the Predacons for the unneeded kill of their comrade and would want revenge. In a way the wolf/raven fuzor wanted some answer to if this was really intentional or not. If it was the Predacons were in some deep slag.

Cheetor noticed Optimus' consoling hand on his shoulder, but he was so focused on what he was watching that he didn't think enough to react in any way. Aurora was holding Icebreaker and grieving openly.

Cheetor wasn't quite there yet. Was Icrebreaker really gone? Aurora was sure the CR chamber couldn't help him? Whitegrazer and Optimus seemed sure, too. They weren't trying to help Icebreaker, they were helping Aurora. So he must have been dead.

But it seemed like somebody should have said it plain and clear. Or the CR chamber should have officially announced everything was over. It was surreal for him to be gone so quickly- that he'd been alive this morning and then in the CR chamber before Cheetor was even in the bridge, and then dead before Cheetor saw the wound that killed him, and all in the space of a day- and that was only made more surreal by the fact that the exact... moment he died was a mystery.

Were they sure he was dead?

Remembering crew reaction to Nightmist's death, Dinobot was prepared for the crying, and the speeches, and the open guilt, and the general mix of sorrow and shock, but it only sat the tiniest bit better with him this time around. Icebreaker was a warrior, whether that was the path he had meant to choose or not. His end was unfortunate, and it would be fitting to bring his killer to justice, but mourning so desperately for him robbed his memory and his death of much of the glory both deserved.

Steelclaw looked to his teammate and replied with a simple, "No." His hands were getting a little too full for him to manage the rest of the spilled items.
Onyx wrote:And Steelclaw if you have a klik or two I need to talk to you real quick.
"Of course," he answered. He did not express it with the way he spoke, but Onyx had his curiosity piqued. What could this reserved soldier wish to talk about?

He was about to stand up and make his way to his quarters when the last person he would have ever expected touched his shoulder.
Starshadow wrote:It's going to be alright...I know how it feels..
It was one thing that she'd picked up on his unspoken feelings. But what truly confused Steelclaw was why Starshadow would ever offer sympathy like this. He briefly considered the possibility that she had finally and truly snapped.
Starshadow wrote:if I were you, I would seek vengeance, but that's just me.
Ah. That was the Starshadow he knew. He gave her a nod to acknowledge her words, although for the moment he couldn't even get his mind around the idea of looking for revenge on Megatron. It was also possible that these were not words of off-handed sympathy, but rather an attempt on her part to sow unrest in the Predacon ranks. Surely Starshadow had ambitions of her own...

Steelclaw got back on his hoverboard and went quickly to the hallway leading to the team's quarters, where he stepped off and walked to his own. He opened the door and beckoned for Onyx to follow him inside. Once the door closed behind them, he headed for his resting panel.

"What do you want to talk about?" he asked as he began laying Glowstick's belongings down gingerly.

((OOC: Assuming Onyx wishes to follow him. Otherwise, I can edit this, Wildfire.))
I understand... you are, after all, a predacon.
