((OOC: Speaking of madness.. I love that lol.))
Hm.. You said you darted StarShadow to keep her alive..Wouldn't you have benefited from her being destroyed?
Sonar resisted the urge to growl.

"I'll tell you the same thing I told Steelclaw. I did what I thought was best. If Megatron wants to win the Beast Wars, he will need every one to accomplish that." Sonar replied, shaking his right hand when it goes numb for a split second.
I mean if she wasn't in the picture.. none of us would harass you or stalk you like she does..Unless the other crewmate's insinuation's have merit..Doesn't matter either way, but I like to try to understand my co-workers motives.
"Starshadow is dreadfully annoying, yes but Megatron needs every one alive and in one piece of this war. I have no motive that could interfere with Megatron's plans, aside from killing a few orgainic animals for sport that is." He said closing a panel.
"The enemy of my enemy is my bro."

((OOC: For my part, Steelclaw's in a CR tank, so there's nothing coming from him.))

Dinobot had not anticipated being answered so strongly by the Maximal leader, and for a moment, he felt a small amount of shame for what he'd spoken.
Saber-Fang wrote:He does have a point, Dinobot. It was a freak accident. The Decepticon is innocent until proven guilty.
Dinobot growled quietly in response, but didn't think there was much to say until he thought things through more.

As he followed Optimus and Saber into to Axalon, through the halls to the bridge, he realized a small flaw in his original reasoning. He had seen Nemesis as a combatant in war, where there are no innocents. She truly had found herself in war, so Dinobot would not have mourned some misfortune coming to her any more than he mourned the occasional death of planetary wildlife.

But Nemesis hadn't actually become part of the war yet. In hindsight, it was clear that she was trying to figure out what she was supposed to be doing in this world, and who she belonged with- if anyone. It wasn't his place to try to bring harm to her, then, without a fair investigation.

Dinobot also realized that, in his anger, he had brought further pressure to a leader who needed less of it. He hadn't necessarily acted dishonorably, but it was tactically unwise to establish heated disagreements with one's leader. Such disagreements could lead to disunity, which almost always hurt a team's chances on the battlefield.

He would have to see Optimus later to assure the leader that he was with him. But now it was time for the debriefing, and he needed to give his attention to that.
I understand... you are, after all, a predacon.

Glowstick nodded Well you do have a point there.. seems like more and more the Maximals are over powering us.. Stronger troops, larger troops.. direct confrontations like we've had probably wont work with a group that seems to specialize more in hit and run ambush or covert tactics.. he then stated, floating in a leaned back position with a few limbs supporting his head Well that should do it for the repairs. Thanks for the help. I'll run some maintenance on the engines tomorrow but I can cover that myself. Guess I'll debrief to Megatron and hit the ol' fishbowl.

Glowstick then started to float backwards out of the Cargobay of the Leviathan, then rolled moving his limbs from his head as he floated into the hallway.

Feralnight watched the others as they came, but the grim expression Optimus had made her feel something must have gone wrong. Yet she didn't speak up. They would probably find out in the debriefing soon enough since there seemed to be quite a few matters they'd have to tell.

---------------------------

Frilla meanwhile was becoming a little more nervous with the other Maximals finally arriving, a few of them looking quite grim. What about she wasn't sure. Though the frilled lizard remained quiet as she had for some time now, just listening to what the others said yet the Maximals seemed to be in anticipation for what happened. Probably mainly for the Decepticon's presence. So that's what Snow Trix and Glowstick had gone after earlier that day, it had to be.

Whitegrazer saw the grim expression on Optimus' face and she immeidately knew something grave happened.

She soon felt sorry for everyone here, the ones who weren't inexperienced in war especially their leader. She had walked with many Maximal commanders in the past, all hardened and some even so cold they didn't act like the Maximals they should be because war had took away so much from them and they just became tools of war for the Maximal government. It has been awhile since she had seen such emotion from one leader, even though he wasn't a leader of war but exploration. Being in many battlefields, despite how long it has been, she knew how to get over death and accept it. Though, she too had grief over the losses in life and started detesting war. That reason made her get out before she lost her soul to it. If she stayed and took that commanding position...she didn't know where she would be.

She closed her eyes, knowing that they had lost someone. She could feel it, the flow of emotion in the air.

And she knew this won't be the end of it either...

The grim expression on Primal's face seemed to change the atmosphere. Wintersong looked at the others for a moment, seeing some looking or beginning to look grim as well, knowing something was wrong. And there had to be for even Optimus to look so grim. Ears going back Wintersong could never recall ever seeing a crew or unit looking like this, never remembering losing a friend or fellow trainee back on Cybertron. She had never really faced a fight or war until being a stowaway on the Axalon. Was that what they would be hearing now? The loss of a fellow Maximal?

"We lost a Maximal didn't we Optimus?" She finally spoke up since the others seemed silent. Normally Wintersong would keep her thoughts to herself but this was making he uneasy to hear nothing and for it to be so quiet. Especially with even some of the usually noisy crew members.

"It's not your fault, Optimus. You had no idea what would happen."
Primal knew Saber-Fang was trying to comfort him, but it didn't seem to help. He disagreed simply because he didn't reinforce his own rules, and that costed someone's life.
"We lost a Maximal didn't we Optimus?"
Optimus suddenly looked at Wintersong, as if he was almost take aback by what she asked. "Yes," he finally answered. Then his optics drifted along the group, still searching for the right words. He tried to sound strong after he lifted a fist to his mouth and cleared his throat, then lowered his arm back to his side. "I am truly sorry to inform all of you that... we have lost Nightmist. Those of us who responded to her call arrived after it was too late. ...There was nothing we could do." His gaze unconsciously fell to their feet as Nightmist's last words replayed in his memory over and over again. Casually returning to the present, their leader looked up at them and continued. "She had been captured by the Decepticon, whom I believe was what fell from space in the tundra," he paused, glancing at Orcariner as if looking for an answer or reassurance on his assumption, but the debriefing of the orca's mission would come shortly. "As a result, whether it was intentional or accidental I do not know, but part of Nightmist was merged with the Decepticon and has now been upgraded to our technology as a Predacon." Optimus decided to break away from the gruesome picture of Nightmist's body at the scene in his mind, and went on focusing on their fallen comrade. "Some of you didn't know Nightmist very well because she had a passion and love for this planet and spent most of her time exploring the outdoors, but make no mistake, she was kind, and she was devoted to helping her fellow comrades in need." His red optics paused on Whitegrazer who had only just been repaired earlier that day by Nightmist's steady hands and effecient skills. "We've lost a big part of this crew... and she will be greatly missed. ...I'm sorry." Primal stopped talking to allow the others to take in the very sad and unfortunate news. He never thought he would have to speak before them about losing a friend. It was definitely tougher than he imagined, and he wasn't sure he said any of it correctly. His thoughts were obviously occupied, cluttered, scattered, and emotional. As for his own personal friendship with Nightmist, he had a lot in common with her, and they greatly respected one another.

This may not have been the first time some of these Maximals had lost a teammate, but it was for Optimus, and he took it hard.

-----

Rattrap stood there quietly for once through the whole speech. Even for a sarcastic, pain-in-the-skidplate Maximal, he was saddened by this news and watched the commander struggle for the words he wanted to say. As much as Rattrap said they were all going to die, he never actually meant it. And sure, he had doubted their inexperienced leader in the beginning, but Optimus had proven himself time and time again that he was quite capable of being one of the greatest leaders of Cybertron, much like his name-sake, whether he wanted to be or not. He had a feeling the commander's greatest test was yet to come. On the darker side of things, in war it was almost inevitable that a commanding officer was going to lose comrades under his leadership, and crew members were going to lose close friends. The worst part about this war was that they had no communication with Cybertron. There were no higher authorities available at their disposal to arrest, justify and punish the crimes that Megatron and his Predacons, the Decepticon, and the strange alien race committed here. It was just them on this dangerous planet. They had no other help. It was only them.

The rat wasn't very good at offering words of comfort, so he simply bowed his head in respect and silence, giving someone else the opportunity to speak. Lingering in the back of his mind, however, was how exactly all of this happened. Why was Nightmist killed, and what did that have to do with changing the Decepticon to a Predacon? How did the Decepticon get out of Orcariner and his team's hands? He knew Optimus was leaving out some details on purpose so as not to upset everyone even more, but he'd like to investigate this further after the funeral services. Right now, this was a time to remember and mourn a fallen comrade.

-----

Tigatron, on the other hand, had wiped a tear from his eye, feeling the pain of losing an innocent Maximal... a friend. The reality of this war and mysterious world was tragic. Life was so fragile, so precious. If you tripped, you might not get back on your feet. He could tell Optimus was extremely upset, no matter how much he tried to disguise it and he knew why, but it made the Maximal tiger extend a gesture of positive comfort and reassurance. Stepping over to their leader, he placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "May her spark join the Matrix in peace and tranquility. What she has done for this crew and this planet will not be forgotten."

Optimus looked at Tigatron and gently placed his hand over the maximized tiger's that was on his shoulder as a wordless thank you. Tigatron nodded and pulled his hand away after the leader uncovered it. He stepped back from Primal and lowered his head in a moment of silence.
"Well, that's just prime!"

((OOC: This is sooooooo sad. ))

When she heard that it was Nightmist, Whitegrazer bowed her head. She may have not known the Maximal long but Whitegrazer could tell about a person from their job all the way to their body movements and speech. Already, she liked the bird. She was very peaceful and to add, Nightmist had saved her life from Megatron. It pained her that she will never be able to return the favor. Maybe if..no...she couldn't think about what ifs. She felt optics on her and she looked up to see that it was Optimus looking at her. She read his emotions through his eyes, she could see the guilt, loss, and sadness.

Whitegrazer kept silent and bowed her head again, closing her eyes and just whispered inside her head the same thing the white tiger had said. She nodded softly in agreement with her eyes still closed.

Saber had no idea what to do in this situation, it had been different for her when she lost men that hadn't been lost by her own hand. There was no kind words spoken about those who had fallen, nor had there been time to mourn said person, not with a war going on, they were forgotten as if they had never existed.
"We lost a Maximal didn't we Optimus?"
"Yes," "I am truly sorry to inform all of you that... we have lost Nightmist. Those of us who responded to her call arrived after it was too late. ...There was nothing we could do."
It's bound to happen again. Saber told herself.
"She had been captured by the Decepticon, whom I believe was what fell from space in the tundra," "As a result, whether it was intentional or accidental I do not know, but part of Nightmist was merged with the Decepticon and has now been upgraded to our technology as a Predacon." "Some of you didn't know Nightmist very well because she had a passion and love for this planet and spent most of her time exploring the outdoors, but make no mistake, she was kind, and she was devoted to helping her fellow comrades in need."
Saber had been one of those bots, she hadn't known Nightmist at all, maybe that had been for the best, but even though she hadn't known her, losing a comrade never got any easier.
"We've lost a big part of this crew... and she will be greatly missed. ...I'm sorry."
Again Saber had no idea what to say, this was foreign to her, so she kept her mouth shut, so she wouldn't say anything that would be disrespectful to thier fallen comrade.
"May her spark join the Matrix in peace and tranquility. What she has done for this crew and this planet will not be forgotten."
If her spark hadn't been hardend from her years as a General she too would have said kind and comforting words but again that wasn't the case. But she manged to say a few comforting words.

"She will be deeply missed, may she rest in peace."

It sounded kind of forced seeing how this mourning ritual was new to her.

"The smartest and wisest choice to make would be to take out their strongest warriors first, once they're gone it will be easier for us to wipe out the rest." Sonar replied.
Well that should do it for the repairs. Thanks for the help. I'll run some maintenance on the engines tomorrow but I can cover that myself. Guess I'll debrief to Megatron and hit the ol' fishbowl.
"Anytime, if you need any help just contact me." The bat said.

Sonar watched him leave.

And I thought I was a little off, but he is dumber then the bear is. One less preson I have to worry about. He thought.

After he transformed into his beast mode he took off toward his lair to not only sleep but prep Saber's next injection maybe using some of the samples that he had gotten from the alien, though he hadn't tested it yet. He shrugged, he was pretty sure that Saber could handle it.
"The enemy of my enemy is my bro."

Wintersong bowed her head when she had guessed right, even though she had never known Nightmist the loss was still saddening and hard. Her thoughts went back to the tundra, for a moment Wintersong imagining being in the water, the cold not taking long to affect her systems a bit and feeling the deep cold from the freezing waters making it hard to even think of fighting. Closing her eyes the image faded from her mind and the tigeress wondered if it would have been possible to have nearly lost two Maximals in one day. All because of a stupid mistake and not wanting to feel like a coward.

'That could have made two of us.' She thought in dismay, clenching her fists. Wintersong wouldn't risk that again nor the lives of the other Maximals she worked with again as she had. It was enough to mourn a comrade and it weighed heavy on everyone, even if no one had known that bot for too long or at all, it was still a something you didn't get use to.

To hear such news of losing their comrade Feralnight looked at the ground in mournful silence. She hadn't really known Nightmist but she had seemed a good medic, to lose her would affect them all regardless of knowing her or not. But she couldn't help feeling slight anger towards the Decepticon for killing their friend since it had been an unprovoked attack. But why had she done it? That's probably what was bothering everyone now for the reason of the killing.

Frilla too bowed her head out of respect even though Nightmist she had only met during the return trip and during the fight. She had seemed someone to easily get along with and a kind Maximal yet to lose such a medic or possible friend was hard. Even with the short brief time she was feeling the sadness of the loss.

Wintersong wrote:"We lost a Maximal didn't we Optimus?"
Orcariner's attention quickly shifted to the tigress. Someone had to break the silence, but it still seemed a bit forward to ask such a question. The implication of death was not something to be taken lightly and he never liked making such assumptions. Still, there has not been silence this everlasting nor this heavy. The idea was on the back of everyone's minds, but it appeared that Wintersong was the only one willing to voice it.
Optimal Optimus Primal wrote: "Yes,"

"I am truly sorry to inform all of you that... we have lost Nightmist. Those of us who responded to her call arrived after it was too late. ...There was nothing we could do."
The attention was turned back to Optimus. The worst case scenario has indeed happened and the tigress was right. Lowering his head, Orcariner silently contemplated the situation and what it meant for the crew's future. From a personal standpoint, he was not particularly close with her but that did not mean there would not have been a later opportunity for closer ties of friendship. Whatever potential there was for having a new friend was now gone. It was unfortunate that their squad could not make it back to base in time to help her out. Orcariner cursed his slow beast mode.

From a mission standpoint, the Maximals now had one less personnel in the Beast Wars. Nightmist was not simply a foot soldier. She was a medic as well as a flyer. Those were pivotal two roles that are difficult to find in wartime since one is a hard skill to pick up and the other cannot be taught. The loss of a friend would bring down Maximal morale and it was obvious that their leader was heavily affected by the death. The crew needed someone to be strong and diligent. Someone who could not be brought down by death and sorrow so that he may lead them to the path to victory and the path that will return them to Cybertron. Optimus Primal was this figure they so desperately need, but should he fall to grief then the rest would follow suite. Orcariner further noted Rhinox's absence. The scientist must be accompanying the body, either examining its remains or preparing a funeral pyre. Maybe he was doing both. If Megatron learned of Nightmist's death, he would surely plan to ambush the Maximals during the funeral. It would be prime time to catch them off guard. There was no way to get around it either, since the Maximals were obligated to pay respect to their fallen comrade.
Optimal Optimus Primal wrote:"She had been captured by the Decepticon, whom I believe was what fell from space in the tundra,"
Orcariner snapped out of this thoughts and looked up at Optimus and was taken back by the fact his leader was looking directly at him. Of course it was the Decepticon who was responsible. He had seen her break free from Glowstick's ship and fly towards the Axalon. He had seen a Decepticon faction symbol on his radar when the squad returned and since there was only one 'Con roaming the planet, it must have been the same one he found up north. Orcariner chose not to show any response to Optimus' glance other than to lower his head and close his eyes. He was unable to prevent his thoughts from returning to the glaciers to that very moment when he had his swords at the Decepticon's neck. She was harmless then, trapped in stasis lock. Orcariner had the opportunity to remove her head. The opportunity to separate her processor from her body and render her useless for the rest of the war. Maximal chose the path of mercy.

And look what happened because of it, he thought.

The Predacons still somehow managed to recovery the body before they had even left the northern region. The Decepticon somehow came back to life and took another's before they made it home. Orcariner was unsure if Optimus was still staring at him and he cared not to find out. He did not know if he was reading too much in to it, but the orca could not help but feel that his leader believed they were to blame for Nightmist's death. Had Orcariner finished the job, the Maximals would not be standing here in grievance. Nightmist would still be alive and well. No doubt Optimus was awaiting the squad's debriefing, but it would not be given in front of everyone else; at least not at this time. Orcariner wanted to explain himself to Optimus in private and hear what the leader would have to say uninhibited by the presence of others.
Optimal Optimus Primal wrote:"As a result, whether it was intentional or accidental I do not know, but part of Nightmist was merged with the Decepticon and has now been upgraded to our technology as a Predacon." His red optics paused on Whitegrazer who had only just been repaired earlier that day by Nightmist's steady hands and effecient skills. "We've lost a big part of this crew... and she will be greatly missed. ...I'm sorry."
There was the final blow to Orcariner's morale. The Decepticon was integrated Nightmist's data, which explained why Icebreaker temporarily confused her for the deceased Maximal. Every time they would confront the 'Con now, Orcariner would receive a constant reminder of this day's events.

"She will be deeply missed, may she rest in peace."
Optimus briefly looked to Saber-Fang, thoughtfully agreeing with her. As his gaze observed everyone else who lingered in silence, he knew this was not the time for him to grieve for their loss. As their leader, he knew he would have to keep them on track and busy in case any other surprises happened. He had to stay strong and continue his commanding role so his crew could move forward in their own survival.

"Rhinox is currently preparing the funeral arrangements, and an announcement will be made as to when the funeral will take place," Primal said in a steadier, firmer voice to break the silence. He purposely left out where Rhinox was so curious eyes who shouldn't see the condition Nightmist's body was in would not intrude on his progress. However, he also thought Rhinox shouldn't be alone, so perhaps the leader should make a visit and see how he was doing. The best way for Primal to stay focused was to carry on with what needed to be done, no matter how sad he was inside. He wasn't naive and didn't believe that he would never lose a comrade under his command, even though, technically, he shouldn't have but here they were in this war on this planet with these Predacons and strange happenings. Nightmist's death was just too sudden, and too soon, and Optimus once thought that he could prevent any of his Maximals from being terminated. But he wasn't perfect. And he couldn't be there every time. Little did he know that they had almost lost another life that day as well. "Some of you may have noticed we have a couple new recruits with us. Whitegrazer was successfully recovered today, and her stasis pod is in great shape. We'll want to bring that back to Base as soon as we can for whatever purposes we can use out of it. Frilla has also decided to leave the Predacons and join our team after the battle we had with them. I hope everyone will show her the same courtesy as you would show me or any other Maximal here. Please make her feel welcomed since it is not an easy transition to make from one allegiance to another."

"Cheetor, if you could gather Frilla's data and enter it in the ship's computer, it will add her to our roster, communications, and recognition for Sentinel," Optimus said, looking at the younger Maximal.

"Rattrap, did you assign quarters to Whitegrazer and Frilla?"

"Uh, no," the rodent answered Primal. He was relieved to see their leader pick himself up and move on despite what they were all going through with the great loss of Nightmist. He knew Optimus probably knew her better than the rest of them there, but wasn't that mandatory for the commanding officer to know all of his crew members? It was different with him, however, as he seemed to be genuinely interested in knowing all of them on a personal level and not just professionally. "We were, uh, interrupted with what was happening earlier."

Primal gave him a slight nod in understanding before he said, "Please get it done as soon as possible." They would need their own rooms for privacy, rest, and for grieving if they desired to do so in private.

"Yeah, okay." Rattrap walked away from Cheetor and over to Whitegrazer and Frilla. Since the lizard needed to swap info with the cheetah, the rat would take the horse and escort her to her room first. "You okay?" he asked Whitegrazer in a concerned voice. She seemed to be very deep in her own thoughts. Maybe losing Nightmist reminded her of past experiences.

"Feralnight, you're on monitor duty," the Maximal leader ordered her. "If that Decepticon returns to the Predacons, she may inform Megatron of our tragic loss and he might take advantage of the situation." And it was possible he might not. He didn't know what condition the Predacons were in. But just to be safe, a pair of eyes should be watching those scanners. "Icebreaker can exchange shifts with you."

"As for everyone else," Primal addressed Wintersong, Saber-Fang, Dinobot, and Tigatron, "get repairs if you need them, and get some rest." The order he had given Saber-Fang earlier to not leave the Axalon without his knowledge still stood. Turning slightly, he looked up at the killer whale.

"Orcariner, if I may speak with you in private?" Optimus asked of him as he walked over to the largest Maximal and stepped passed him to the hallway behind him. There was no anger in his soft voice, he simply wanted to be debriefed on his mission and how this Decepticon came about. They must have had some problems while they were there in the tundra. He certainly did not blame Orcariner or anyone else but himself for Nightmist's death. Walking down the corridor, assuming Orcariner was following him, Primal opened his comm. link to Rhinox.

"How are you holding up, Rhinox?" he inquired. "I can be there soon if you need any assistance," or support. Rhinox was a tough Maximal but Optimus knew him well enough to have as many emotions and feelings as the rest of them. If he needed someone to talk to, or to listen, he would provide that for his friend, and probably vice versa. But before he could, he needed to speak with Orcariner first and gather all of the information he would need for his logs. Stopping at a doorway about half way down the hall, the door slid open to a somewhat small room that appeared to be meant for conferences with a table in the center and several chairs surrounding it. Optimus politely gestured Orcariner to enter first.

Before she continued to follow Rattrap, Whitegrazer felt she should offer the leader some comfort if he needed it later, "Hey, Optimus? If you need anyone to talk to, I'm here. I may not have been a commander but I have been put in charge of squads before..." it wasn't the same thing in terms but it did dealt with lookig after a couple of people, "so if you ever..you know...need an ear, I will listen."

She realized she should also offer it to everyone else too, "That goes for all of you, too. If you want to."

She then followed Rattrap.

It was the least she could do for them. They were her team now and she will treat them all like one.

Wintersong listened further before glancing towards the lift, half tempted to leave and rest where she normally would, only sometimes when she came to the Axalon did she sleep to her assigned quarters. But when she checked the frostbitten areas, gently pressing on the areas and winched feeling them sting again. Perhaps repairs were best for now before she went running off or resting though kept the matter of nearly drowning in the tundra quiet. Least for now. Hearing the almost loss of another Maximal would do little to lighten the mood when they had already one death.

"This is why I stick to the jungle or solid ground." She mumbled under her breathe to no one in particular, glancing towards Saber-Fang, Dinobot, and Tigatron to see who would get repairs first.
