((OOC: Thanks. I was writing my post at the same time you were, hee hee.))
Steelclaw went still as soon as he hit the ground, but Dinobot continued to advance until he could see that the Predacon's optics were dark.
Optimus Primal wrote:Cheetor, Dinobot, regroup with Nightmist,
Dinobot snarled to himself for a moment. Optimus would not likely approve of an execution- at least, not without the proper argument. And there was no time for such a debate now."I'm on my way," Dinobot replied over his com-link. Then he looked back. "Until we meet again, my former comrade." Turning around, he transformed into beast mode and trotted over to the rest of the Maximals.
A few moments passed by where Steelclaw lay motionless. Then his optics flicked for a moment and came fully online. He sat up with a hand to his chest.
"I'll do my best not to meet you, then," he muttered to the un-hearing raptor. "Speaking of which, where did that rifle go?"
He soon found the weapon lying in the grass. He got to his feet laboriously, and as soon as he stood, his body overloaded on the energon radiation. He walked to the weapon slowly with the blue lines running along his frame, but he finally got a hold of it. In one fluid motion, he put the rifle on his back, fell forward, and transformed to beast mode, landing on the ground with his forelimbs spread out, doing nothing to soften the landing, which created a muted
whump!
He took a deep breath with his beast mode and exhaled powerfully, watching the grass in front of him blow ever so slightly. With a grunt, he got to his paws and looked over the field. He noticed Tarantulas had come and was giving Terrorsaur his legs. After that the spider moved off, maybe to spy on the Maximals.
"Hey Tarantulas," Steelclaw said on his com-link, "Megatron got hit with a tranquilizer. He might have need of your biological expertise to avoid passing out on the way back to the ship."
Then again, it wouldn't surprise him if Megatron was capable of staying functional in spite of the attack.
He decided his next best move would be to follow the other Predacons back, so he turned that direction. But then he took one last view of the battlefield, and he realized he could see the Maximals in plain sight. The new Maximal was being attended to by Nightmist, but what really caught his attention was Frilla, standing in the middle of the group, unharmed, and seemingly prepared to leave with the rest of them.
His mind drifted to the trip when the
Leviathan was carrying Blackarachnia back to base- the same trip where he had voiced concern about re-programming protoforms.
Frilla's initial response was that it would please Megatron. Steelclaw had sought ethical rationalization and
that had been her first thought.
He had spoken disagreement as soon as she presented the idea, but it seemed good enough to leave it at that. Now the simple line of reasoning that had alarmed him was being manifested into a real, significant action. Frilla had wanted to please Megatron- she probably had wanted to please all of her team mates and that desire was probably born of fear. But she'd found that Megatron could not be pleased by her actions. Not surprisingly, that desire holding her to the Predacons was now giving way to the realization that she did not have to try, and be afraid that in trying, she would fail.
That realization would in all likelihood prove strong enough to keep her with the Maximals in spite of her first reason for joining the Predacons- her frustration with the Maximals on Cybertron who held themselves as superior.
With those motivations working in her, she probably was where she belonged now. But Steelclaw found it incredibly unfortunate. He wished she belonged with the Predacons. He wished she believed in something.
He took one last forlorn glance right at Frilla before turning around and heading off after Megatron.
On his way he heard something most curious...
Sonar wrote:Starshadow, leave it be! You go after it, you'll only met a savage end. It only knows how to kill and it doesn't know restraint or friend from foe. You'll have your chance just not now.
Steelclaw's eyes brightened even as he kept walking. He couldn't hear the rest of the conversation as he got further away from the two Predacons, and they from him, but it didn't matter. He'd had his epiphany. Suddenly, the day seemed a bit better.
* * *
Cheetor was surprised to see Sonar retreating, but he let the Predacon fly away without pressing for more of a fight. He was happy he'd kept Sonar away from Optimus. He transformed into beast mode and ran over to the rest of the Maximals.
It
was a good thing Sonar hadn't fought Optimus. He looked like a damaged wreck.
"Big Bot- are you feelin' o.k.?" he asked.
Dinobot soon arrived, and notice Frilla was there with the Maximals. He wasn't sure that she could be trusted, but there seemed no reason to bring up the issue at the moment. She would prove or disprove herself in due time.
He would have suggested a pursuit of Megatron's crew, even with consideration of Optimus' and Whiegrazer's wounds. The tactical advantage would have been theirs except for one detail...
"Shall I search for Saber? She was being pursued by Starshadow, and there is potential for other hostiles to appear. Whatever has caused her to run, she should not be left unattended."
((OOC: Steelclaw's comments are in no way an insult to the character of Frilla. His are the thoughts of one embittered soldier, told in narrative style- rather than internal dialogue- out of my personal preference for that style.))
