Megatron wrote:No. They are certainly not simply explorers. But then, no Maximals are simply all that their ranks indicate. They are a lot like us Predacons. Take Tarantulas for example. His skills lie in science and engineering, and yet, you shouldn't turn your back to him. You'll find yourself experiencing a whole new sensation of pain. The Maximals should not be underestimated. Ever.
Steelclaw considered these words carefully. Of course he did know the Maximals weren't always what they seemed. Being a Maximal had allowed him a look into that, and in fact, their dual nature was one of the main reasons he followed Megatron. At least... to say they weren't what they seemed in that they were treacherous made sense.
But it didn't all add up. Some Maximal military vehicles would certainly be prepared with transwarp technology. But those were the important ones- the ones ready for big missions. The theft of the Golden Disk, thanks to Megatron's brilliant mind, happened for the most part under the radar. When the Maximals reacted, they were too late to have prepared military response directly from Cybertron. Some ship already prepared to go on a route near the Darksyde's would be the only one available to intercept with enough speed, and Megatron had made sure to navigate a course away from major military routes. That had to leave exploration ships as the only option.
At least, according to Steelclaw's calculations. In all his years in the Maximal forces, he had never heard of anything remotely close to ships with no pre-determined route, ready to fly into space at a moment's notice to chase renegade bands of Predacons. That would be far too much like the days of the Great war, and with a 300 year long peace having existed between both sides, having "minute ships" would be an inefficient use of resources and money.
And bad diplomacy.
Diplomacy. What hid the Maximal abuse of the Predacons from officials while anyone on the right side of town at the wrong time could see it for themselves. Bureaucracy which demanded that even the smallest offense to the hypocritically altruistic Pax Cybertronia be brought into the garish spotlight of the public eye while real threats to Cybertronian "peace" sat in dark rooms and plotted the inevitable and necessary dissolution of it. That red tape which may very well have covered the existence of strike force ships from even such a high ranking agent as he had been. That saber tooth did stand back up in a matter of cycles, didn't she?
Steelclaw promised himself then and there to figure out who these Maximals once were if only to eat away the mere curiosity which was now becoming somewhat of a distraction. It would only take one lucky infiltration of the Axalon, a quick download and a hasty retreat.
If he could do it right, it would only take about 22 minutes, give or take a few seconds.
There was much racing through his mind, and yet for all of it, he could only think to respond in brief terms.
"Acknowledged, Megatron."

Steelclaw pulled up a diagnostic across his visual perception, all the while keeping pace with Megatron and looking natural as could be, and made sure that his shotgun was fully loaded, and that it would be positioned very near to hand whenever he was in battle mode.
I understand... you are, after all, a predacon.
