TF Tri-Board Tournament - RiD Singles Conference: Open!

Unread post by Outtsyder »

This will be reposted from the older board. Those who have already cast your vote will not need to worry; your votes have already been recorded.

After a month-long break over the Christmas break, the TF Tri-Board Tournament returns to action tonight, beginning the Robots In Disguise Conference of the Singles Tournament! The RiD Tag Team Tournament will be opening next week Saturday. And like Beast Machines, with the RiD cast being smaller, only eight participants are listed in both the Singles and Tag Team Tournaments. Besides the smaller tournament roster, the procedure will continue as normal.

As usual, the rules are simple: the four match-ups are provided, and you, the membership, get to vote for the winner of each fight. Capsule profiles of each participant are provided, and you pick who'd more realistically win their matches. Voters can still use even if you're not familiar with the RiD series; just choose the profile that has the better chance of winning the match. (Important note: The key word is "realistically". Please be objective and without bias in choosing the winning participants in each match.)

A victory in each hypothetical battle can be gained by forcing the opponent to surrender, or rendering them unable to continue after a 15-second down period. Outright destruction is not necessary to win, but a very likely possibility. And yes, it is possible for opponents of the same allegiance to fight each other.

In the event that the outcome of a fight's vote total is a tie, both combatants will be eliminated, allowing a bye for their would-be opponent into the next round. If the tournament final's vote becomes a tie, a re-vote will be opened; there must be a winner.

And now, here are the opening-round match-ups for the RiD Conference Singles Tournament:

Match 1: Railspike vs. Scourge

Railspike (Autobot) – Leader of the Autobots’ Team Bullet Train and a professional veteran warrior. Is dynamic and streamlined in bullet train mode; capable of traveling blazing speeds at great distances. Has better than average strength in robot mode, and an array of weapons including hidden shoulder-mounting missile pods and a hand-held energy rifle. Also capable of generating an ultrasonic shield. Very intelligent durable, and highly skilled, though possessing no offensive armament in train mode.

Scourge (Decepticon) – Brutal and vicious leader of the Decepticons’ segment of the Predacon/Decepticon alliance against the Autobots. Physical resemblance evokes a dark “evil twin” of Optimus Prime; personality is nowhere near as heroic. Possesses one of the most calculating militaristic minds of all the Transformers. Massive tanker truck mode is highly durable; robot mode is armed with a pair of dual shoulder-mounted Barrage Attack missile pods, a hand-held dual-pulse blaster gun, and an energon-based Sword Of Fury. Tanker trailer becomes a heavily-armed battle station, equipped with a central rocket launcher, a ripple missile launcher, and an explosive disc launcher. Physical might is rarely equaled among Autobots, Predacons and Decepticons alike, but extreme hatred of Optimus Prime could be an exploitable weakness.

Match 2: Skid-Z vs. Megatron

Skid-Z (Autobot) – A young Autobot whose life is dominated by two things: speed and racing. Is a capable fighter and a highly-elusive target, when not distracted by an opportunity to race. Believed to be the fastest (or among the top three) car on wheels in his Formula 1 race car mode. Robot mode has above-average strength and good firepower with a hand-held laser rifle. Also has extremely fast reflexes in robot mode, allowing him to escape attacks easily. Despite his unusual speed, armor and stamina are not very high; presenting him with a chance to race could leave him open to an underhanded attack.

Megatron (Predacon) – The supreme Leader of the Predacons and Decepticons, and a master of transformation… with six different modes. Physical power in all modes is great, and ambition for domination is greater; but greatest asset is the versatility of his multi-mode transformations. Transforms into robot, bat, double-headed dragon, armored car, jet fighter, and flying hand-claw modes. Robot mode uses a pair of energon bayonet-like swords; bat mode can drain energy and generate ultrasonic waves; dragon mode breathes high-temperature fire; car and jet fighter modes can reach great speeds and use a pair of missile launchers; hand mode is capable of flight and – sorry, this has to be said – singlehanded crushing. Has a great will to win, but bad temper can throw him off his strategy.

Match 3: Optimus Prime vs. Mega-Octane

Optimus Prime (Autobot) – Autobot Leader and hero dedicated to the preservation of life and the defeat of the Decepticons. Fire truck mode can reach surprising speeds in proportion to his size; has an extendable ladder, four hidden missile launchers in the ladder assembly, and dual water cannon. Basic robot mode uses a hand-held compression pistol. Remainder of vehicle mode reassembles to form a battle station equipped with a long-range scanner antenna, dual water cannons, two double-barreled particle cannons, and several weapons batteries. Parts of the station can detach and re-attach to Prime’s basic robot body for enhancements, like forearm gauntlets and shoulder-mounted missile pods. Can also combine with all parts to form a super-sized Battle Mode, with enhanced armor, doubled strength, and adjustable ladder cannon. While massively powerful and intelligent, can also be suckered by a false show of goodwill, leaving him vulnerable to attack.

Mega-Octane (Decepticon) – General of the Decepticon Commandos Combiner team. Created by Megatron as the first Decepticon, from scanning a stolen stasis pod; single-mindedly devoted to combat, and extremely skilled at it as well. Has great strength, endurance, armor and firepower in both robot and missile transport truck modes; weapons include a hand-held sonic rifle and back-mounted twin laser cannons. Is a great squad commander and a capable solo fighter with surprising speed in vehicle mode; can sometimes be frustrated when a plan goes awry.

Match 4: X-Brawn vs. Sky-Byte

X-Brawn (Autobot) – Oldest and strongest of the Autobot Brothers trio who lives for challenges; the tougher the job, the better he likes it. Prefers action to words. Is very durable and maneuverable in SUV mode, capable of traveling over the most rugged terrain. Robot mode is skilled in all sorts of hand-to-hand combat; armed with a missile-shooting right arm, a pair of three hand-held melee blade weapons, and a massive “Southpaw Lariat” left arm. Massively strong and agile in robot mode as well, but may take on a challenge that may be too big for him to handle.

Sky-Byte (Predacon) – Loyal lieutenant to Megatron with formidable combat skills and a penchant for poetic art (including devising haikus in the middle of battle), a vicious streak, and inconsistent luck. Has great physical strength and agility in both robot and robotic shark modes. Capable of airborne flight as shark; jaws can crush concrete and steel with little effort. Has dual torpedo launcher inside mouth. In robot mode, uses torpedo launcher as hand-held, weapon; left arm has a massive four-pronged Shark Spike blade. Most powerful weapon is his chest-mounted Tsunami Blaster, capable of moderate-field large-scale destruction. Despite his various abilities, his luck tends to work against him frequently.

To cast your vote for the winners in each fight, you can e-mail me at excellence-execution@excite.com, reply right here in this thread, or even let me know in a Chat or IM. In the rare moment that we might talk in person or on the phone, casted votes also count there. As usual, you cannot cast your vote for the same match(es) more than once (yeah, an anti-ballot box-stuffing measure).

Voting for this round will be open, until the deadline of Saturday, January 14, at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time (just a few short hours away!). Next week, the results will be posted, along with the opening-round matches for the Robots In Disguise Conference Tag Team Tournament.

Match 1: Railspike vs. Scourge

Some said this match would be a tough call; others said it would be no contest. In reality, this would likely be a much closer battle between the Leader of Team Bullet Train and the Commander of the Decepticon Commandos, even if the end result was the same. In fact, as the Baron of both The Underground Hangar and Beast Wars International said in choosing Scourge, “he just has more options.” And those options were more than enough to score a solid shutout win.

WINNER: Scourge

Match 2: Skid-Z vs. Megatron

Talk about your mismatches, although this can be blamed on the random draw that set up the opening matches in the first place. But LadyJet of both The Hangar and BWInt made this blunt observation: “Sorry Skid-Z you got a REALLY bad draw.” It was almost a miracle that Skid-Z even got a single vote at all! Megatron thoroughly dominated this match, coming out of the fight with 90%, and goes on to face one of his own lieutenants in the Semi-Finals.

WINNER: Megatron

Match 3: Optimus Prime vs. Mega-Octane

This was another battle that would have had closer results in a real battle, but the vote results didn’t reflect it. It’s believed that one of Optimus Prime’s re-inforcements was the deciding factor in choosing a winner. “I don't doubt that Mega-Octane would put up a good fight, but once Optimus brought out his Super Mode, our Decepticon buddy wouldn't have a chance,” wrote Stelartron of both the Hangar and BW Int. “He'd still make it a good fight, but eventually, he'd just be out-powered. Now if he had the other Decepticons with him and they could form Ruination, it might be a different story...” But obviously, Mega-Octane had to fight Prime one-on-one, and the result was a heavy loss, with Optimus advancing with 70% of the vote.

WINNER: Optimus Prime

Match 4: X-Brawn vs. Sky-Byte

This ended up being the closest match of the first round… and you couldn’t get much closer than this. X-Brawn took the initial lead, with many voters believing that Sky-Byte was too much of a goof to stand much of a chance against a more serious-minded brawler like X-Brawn. Others noted that, despite Sky-Byte’s comical reputation, he really did possess a lot of really formidable fighting skill early on in the show. As the voting continued on, the lead traded back and forth until the time ran out… leading to a 50-50 draw! As a result, both X-Brawn and Sky-Byte are eliminated from the Tournament, with Optimus Prime advancing directly into the Championship finals.

WINNER: none

Next week, The Semi-Finals of the RiD Singles Tournament will begin, while the voting for the RiD Tag Team opening-round matches are underway. And even if you've never played before, you can still join in any time you wish! 8)

This week, we open up the Semi-Final round of the RiD Singles Tournament. Normally, there would be two matches presented in this round, with the winners facing each other in two weeks time for the Championship Final. However, with one of the first-round matches ending in a draw, there will only be one match, with the winner facing Optimus Prime for the RiD Singles Championship.

This time, it's a face-off between two of the top commanders in the Predacon-Decepticon alliance -- Megatron and Scourge -- with the winner to face Optimus Prime. Will Megatron emerge victorious with his mastery of transformation into six different modes? Or will Scourge's superior firepower, military strategy, and unabashed hatred thrust him into the Finals?

As usual, the rules are simple: the match-up is provided, and you, the membership, get to vote for the winner of the fight. Capsule profiles of each participant are provided at the top of this thread, and you pick who'd more realistically win the match. (Important note: The key word is "realistically". Please be objective and without bias in choosing the winning participants in the match. And no draws or ties are allowed; you MUST pick a winner.) A victory in this hypothetical battle can be gained by forcing the opponent to surrender, or rendering them unable to continue after a 15-second down period. Outright destruction is not necessary to win, but a very likely possibility. And yes, it is possible for opponents of the same allegiance to fight each other.

In the event that the outcome of the fight's vote total is a tie, both combatants will be eliminated. Normally, this allows a bye for their would-be opponent into the next round. But in this case, if there is no winner in this one and only Semi-Final Match, Optimus Prime will automatically win the championship.

Match 5: Scourge vs. Megatron

Match 6: no match: Optimus Prime advances automatically into the Finals

As usual, you cannot cast your vote for the same match(es) more than once (yeah, an anti-ballot box-stuffing measure).

Voting for this round will be open, until the deadline of Saturday, January 28, at 7pm Pacific Daylight Time. Next week, the results will be posted, along with the Semi-Finals for the Robots In Disguise Conference Tag Team Tournament.

I'm voting for Megatron. This guy vs. anybody except for Prime and Prime combos is a recipe for total smackdown.
There's more to that than meets the eye.
Victors do not spurn opportunity.

Nerdicons, combine to form Omniscious!

I'll go with Scourge. His firepower and sheer ruthlessness would overwhelm Megatron.

The Semi-Final match of the RiD SSingles Tournament is now over, and ended with a very close race. The winner of this match will go on to face Optimus Prime in the Championship Finals, starting one week from today. And now, let's meet our winner!

Match 5: Scourge vs. Megatron

As expected, this match was the closest of the Tournament so far; and the nature of this match and its own "prize" of sorts probably made the stakes almost as high as winning the Tournament itself! As Stelartron of both The Underground Hangar and Beast Wars International observed, "With the prize being a chance to fight Optimus Prime, you can be sure that both these guys are gonna pull out all the stops. It'd be a close fight, no matter how you slice it. Scourge has heavy weapons, but Megatron has the versatility of being a six-changer. Both are equally ruthless and ambitious, and both hate Oppy's guts." The vote actually came to a tie within the last few hours before the deadline! But once it was finally over, Scourge's weaponry clashed with Megatron's six-mode transformationn powers... and barely made it through, winning with 56% of the vote!

WINNER: Scourge

Match 6: Optimus Prime vs. no opponent

Because of the lack of an opponent, Optimus Prime has a bye in the Semi-Finals, and will face Scourge in the Championship Final Match.

WINNER: Optimus Prime

Be sure to come back next week, as a new thread will be opened to kick off the RiD Singles Conference Championship Finals. And again, to those of you who've never played before, or even missed a round, you can still jump in any time you wish! 8)
