Fan Fiction - how into it are you?
(Inspired by Everblue's post in the Console section)
I was wondering how many of you are avid readers of fan fiction, or just casual readers, or who of you hardly read it at all. And how many of you WRITE it. What kind of fan fiction do you enjoy best? Do you have any favourite fic series/stand alones (on bwint or on another site)? And how many of you have written and really love to write fan fiction (Beast Wars, and other types)?
Being the owner of a fan fiction site, I read BW fan fiction every week and have probably read hundreds upon hundreds by now, but there are a few that stay dear to my heart. I absolutely adored Taratron's fan fiction series, I loved Nightshade's series (of BWA) and I'm enthralled by Lady Dementia's "Celestial Skies" series (and her stand alones are great, too.) Some of my top faves are "The X Factor" by Lady Venom, "Twenty Four Hours" by Landray Depth Charge, "Without Hero's Honor" by Amanda Flowers and "Dying Young" by Colibri. Series I'm really enjoying at the moment are Rainynight's series, Joshin Yasha's series and "Merciless" by Miss Special. (I could go on an on, but those are the ones I'll list for now).
What about the rest of you? Do you read/write fan fiction?

I used to be HUGE into it...read it everyday. But since little Blake came along...it's pretty rare...unfortunatly. But now and then I still enjoy reading some. I usually enjoy the romance or thriller genre. Theres some great ones I like On Ivynas webpage....but theres this one I cant find...and it was unfinished! The author was anonymous too. I also used to follow Brat Bots series ...but it wasnt her fics that were on BWA or Ivyna...she used to have her own website and she had a different series about DepthCharge.

I'd have to say I read a fair amount of fanfiction. Not just transformers though. I haven't read as much as I used to though lately as school and my work placement take up a lot of time in my life. But I have to say my fav writer would be Maria Sunderland.

I used to read bunches... until fanfiction.net stated the rule of 'no scripts, no lists ect... and I haven't found a single fic that is worth reading or isn't written awfully.
Trying to write my own fics and learn more about Macromedia flash at the same time. .
I hope lots of incredible fics come soon.

Wicked Woman, I know that there's a lot of rubbish on ff.net and you have to wade through it before you find a gem, but there are quite a few talented writers on Bwint.net whose fics you should give a try. Darkwatch, Lady Dementia, Landray Depth Charge, Amber Dawn and Timothy Carter to name a few. Of course you might have also been griping about the lack of decent fan fiction in another fandom other than BW, too.

I usually tend to write about a fic every two months, and tend to read fanfiction in spurts (usually during vacations from college). For example, I read all of Miss Special's (very good!) series over Winter Break, but since then all I've read is one or two of Sapphire's fics.

Write it?...Mmmmm nope!
I think I started a semi-fanfiction for this not so popular pet website but... I've missplaced it... it was only 9 pages according to my microsoft word (Or for my ghetto one 'wurd') when I lost it...
As for beast wars... I have MILLIONS of ideas! But not the time, attention spand, or word skill to put it together into a fanfic... usually I just play them out in my head at night to help me get to sleep.
As for reading... In my lifetime... I've only read 5 fanfics all together! XDDD And all but one were only 2 chapters long! *is pathetic* I didn't find very good ones...
But I LOVE "Other Vengence" From wayward! That's the only REAL fanfic I have ever read and... considering that fact it's my favorite! I want morrrree!
I'd probably read more fan fiction if it weren't for a) not having my own computer and b) alllllll this manga to distract me! @.@

I do write fanfics but so far I have a Naruto fanfic. I'm planning to write on a beast wars fic though.
I like Amber Dawn's, Wayward's, Miss Special, Omicron's, Sinead's
thus so far.
I like ones with OC's, Funny ones, uum, etc....I like alot of fanfic. But as long as I know who the characters are and their story then I'll always read it ^__^

Generally, I'm somewhere between casual to avid. I read a good sizeable amount of it when I can but there are times when I don't read it at all from a couple of days to a few weeks. I'd say I'm pretty consistent with writing fanfiction as well whenever I get the opportunity.
With Beast Wars fanfiction, hmm... my favorite series of all time is Basic Program by Black Widow3, a series that never made it to BWA or BWINT. After that, it's a toss-up between Sapphire's Losing Face series and Zucca's Prophecy series. What style do I enjoy the most? I pretty much enjoy any well-written fic that concentrates on the main characters from the tv show that DOESN'T go off on bizarre tangents on how some OC joins the cast, seduces Dinobot, creates convoluted love triangles, starts a massive Jerry Springer-esque family, beats up all the heavy hitters like Rampage and Megatron with ease, does really stupid things and still come out smelling like a rose, acts like a total jerk and still come out smelling like a rose, gets hit with heavy firepower and doesn't come out with a scratch, seduces all the characters(you saw that coming again), and generally hogs all the glory for themselves while the show's characters get stuffed in the trunk. I've read too much of this stuff at BWA and FanFiction.net to count. Blech, I think I've made my point.
As for other fandoms, I read fanfics of them as well. This may come as a surprise to many of you(Sapphire in particular, considering the genre of fanfiction I normally write), but my favorite fics are actually romance fics. Canon couples that already hooked up and kissed/made babies don't interest me too much in fanfiction. Instead, I enjoy... it's kinda hard to explain but I'll try. I enjoy reading romance fanfiction between couples that are unofficial and/or non-canon but they still have enough chemistry to be accessible. I wouldn't consider them unconventional pairings since they have a lot of chemistry and personality traits in common with each other for me to enjoy them as a couple(unlike some Harry Potter fanfiction out there who hook up 17 year old girls with 50+ year old men). Even though they're not canon, there was still the passing possibility that they could've been a couple and... aw, forget it! It's pretty difficult to explain this. For once, I find myself inarticulate and unable to express myself. But I think you get some of what I'm trying to say... err, right?
Oh, and on a slightly off-topic note, Sapph, was my post in the rant section off of the old message board? So far, I can't see any of my posts in the rant section we have now.

Whoops, my bad, Everblue. I meant The Console. *edits post*
Hmm.. I'd say my favourite genres of fan fiction are drama, suspense/thriller and psychological (I love getting into characters' heads). I also do enjoy a GOOD comedy (although they are extremely difficult to find) and a fun action/adventure. I'm not a big fan of straight romances, but I don't mind a little romance taking place in a fic or series, so long as it's written well. I've often added elements of romance to my own fics and series (The After Earth and Uprising had some touching, slow-growing romances, and there was a definite presence of romance in the Shades of Green series.)

I read loads of fanfiction...I used to write it but I haven't been able to exercise my fic-writing muscles a lot recently. I enjoy most well written fics...good character development and interaction, unexplored themes and ideas. Genre doesn't matter to me that much, so long as there's enough substance in it to carry me through. I always find fics dealing with the Beast Warriors' past engrossing.

I've gotten behind in reading fanfiction. Then again, I've gotten behind in writing it, too. School is a real anti-muse for me, so I didn't write much of anything for awhile.
I don't read much fanfiction for other fandoms at all-- a lot of fanauthors are bent on pairing people up and that being the focus of the fic. I don't mind romance if it's secondary to the main plot, but I'm not into lovey-dovey stuff. I've been asked what pairing I'm going for in a fic, as if it's assumed there's going to be one, and it's kind of miffed me.
Stylistically, I don't think I like one genre above all else, but I like fics that are fun, flow well, or string you along. OCs are fine as long as there aren't too many introduced all at once and/or isn't a blatant Mary-Sue.
I think what divides a good fic from a bad fic (for me) is whether the characters motivations are properly thought through. If I ask myself "Why???" while reading, it detracts from the story. Which isn't to be confused with asking myself "Why?" in a different manner... it's hard to explain, but I guess what it really boils down to is whether or not the character isn't acting OOC.
Myself, I come up with stories in my head constantly, so I write some of them down. People tend to enjoy them, apparently. And I love writing dialogue. I don't know why, I just do. It's fun.
