Well, maybe "gig" isn't the most completely accurate word, but it's close enough. At the moment, no, I still haven't completed my voice demo CD, so this isn't a voice-acting gig. What I found in one of the local papers in my area was an article on a small film production company -- a VERY small one -- that's filming a mockumentary about a fictitious pro wrestling company in its last two shows before shutting down promotions. The movie is called Kayfabe (pronounced "kay-FABE"... boy, that was a stretch :p ), which is an old carny-term referring to the backstage "code of secrecy" that presents the wrestling shows as "real" and "in character". To make a comparison using TFs, imagine if the TF characters were really all actors for a TV studio, and in "real life", Optimus and Megatron really were old drinking buddies off the set. It's sort of like that.
Well, later today, the movie company will be shooting some wrestling scenes in a location that's not too far from where I live, and the newspaper article was calling for extras for the crowd shots. Now there were no contact information or directions on signing up ahead of time, so I'm guessing that it's an open call where you just show up (and hope you'll make it in time so that you don't get turned away if they get more than enough people). So, even though I'm not really a wrestling fan anymore (though I used to be one for about 20 years), it's still an interesting "gig" to go for, if they'll need me. Granted, the "pay" will be through free pizza and door prizes -- which shows how small this film company is
-- but it should make for some good experience with an actual performing arts project that's not in association with my church.
