The Chosen One
Chapter One
By: Darkfire75
Author's note: This is my new Beast Wars story. I realize it's not exactly perfect, but the idea hit me and I had to write it down. And since I'm on Japanese overdrive as it is, I wanted the Beast Warriors to have some of that culture come into their own. So...the only things that belong to me are the humans I made up and the plot. Hope you enjoy!
Just a little background information on the characters before I begin the story. I will also provide you with definitions of Japanese words that have numbers next to them.

Setting:
A
girl with long black hair and brown eyes wearing the traditional uniform for
“Hai(1)? What is it, Hitmoi?” Natari said irritably.
Hitomi panted for breath before saying, “Did you not notice Kohei was staring at you again?”
“Oh give it a rest. Kohei never goes to school and all he ever does is play around in his kimono(2) all day. He doesn’t have time for anything else.”
“That’s where you’re wrong. He was staring at you from the Gensai Family Shrine he works at.” Natari sweat dropped (Note: That’s a common anime sign of annoyance) and continued on her way to school with Hitomi tagging along behind her.
“Is that the one, milord?” said a voice from the shadows. They watched the two teenage girls walking away.
“Yes,” hissed another voice. “That raven haired girl is the chosen one. She is the one that will decide the future for all of us.”
“And how will she come to know of our existence, my lord?”
“In do time, Zeshin. For now, we must wait...”
***
Natari was bored. School was usually an interesting thing for her, but for some unknown reason, she was bored. Hitomi was leaning on her palm with her eyes half open. Natari cracked a smile. Her friend was always sleeping in class, no matter what subject it was. Ever since she had been born, Natari had always felt that she had some important part to play in the world. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she had a feeling that it was something important.

“I’m sorry, Yoshi, but the manager didn’t think you qualified for the job,” a black haired man was saying to an 18 year old boy in a jacket and blue slacks.
“But Tomoe, you told me that the interview went okay,” the boy replied.
“Yes, the manager did say that, but he didn’t think you fit the qualifications.”
“Ugh, how am I ever gonna get a job around here?”
“Don’t be so hard on yourself, Yoshi. There are plenty of other jobs around here.”
“Yeah, yeah.” The boy called Yoshitoki slowly trudged down the sidewalk until he reached his newly polished car. He looked at his watch and sighed. It was almost time to pick his sister up from school. He did this daily since he didn’t find it healthy for Natari to be walking home everyday. He jumped into the driver’s seat, put on the gas, and sped off down the street.
He
passed by an old looking shrine house with the Japanese symbols on the sign
reading “Gensai Family Shrine.” There was a boy in the front yard holding
a rake. He had long black hair tied back in a ponytail. His bangs hung in his
face. He also had a small scar on his right cheek. He was wearing an
old-fashioned kimono. (Note: If anyone
ever saw Rurouni Kenshin, just think of a slightly younger Kenshin Himura with
black hair. That’s basically what he looks like.)
The boy’s name was Kohei Gensai. He was a fairly handsome 16 year old boy, but he never attended public high school. He got his lessons from his father and grandfather. He had learned self-defense from them as well. But he wasn’t thinking about chores, he was thinking about Natari Mazumi. Ever since he had first seen her walk by his shrine, he had fallen in love with her.
She avoided him at all costs, but his love never wavered. Some said he was a lovesick puppy with nothing better to do then gawk at pretty girls. In a way, they were right, but the only girl he looked at was Natari. She was his reason for living. A blush came to his cheeks as he thought of her smile and sparkling eyes.
Such
an angel, he thought. His eyes suddenly narrowed. He could sense
something. There was some unwanted presence there. He quickly turned around
taking out his wooden sword as he did so. There was a red-haired man standing
behind him with glasses covering his eyes (Note:
For those of you familiar with Fishigi Yuugi, just think of Tasuki with
sunglasses.)
“Konnichiwa(3),” the man greeted extending a hand for Kohei to shake it.
“Um...can I help you?” Kohei replied sheathing his sword. He felt slightly embarrassed for overreacting.
“Yes, I’m here to ask you a question. Do you know anything about a Miss Natari Mazumi?”
Kohei’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “What do you want with Natari-chan?” he snapped.
“I just want to speak with her. Do you know where she lives?”
“Hai, but I’m not telling you. You haven’t even told me your name.”
“Oh,
sumimasen(4). My name is Zeshin
Yokimura. I’m from
“Then
why are you in
“I told you, it’s confidential and not to be shared openly with others. Now, will you kindly tell me where Miss Mazumi lives?”
“Down that street on your left. You can’t miss it. It’s a big white house.”
“Arigato(5).”
“Do itashimashite(6).” Kohei watched the strange man walk away. Something’s not right about him, he thought. Against his better wishes, he followed after Zeshin.
***
Natari stared out the window as her brother Yoshitoki drove her home. She actually didn’t mind walking home, but getting a ride was much faster. Plus, she didn’t have to stop and say hello to Kohei everyday. When she and her brother returned home, they noticed a strange man with red hair waiting there.
“Um...hello,” Yoshi said getting out of the car. “Who are you?”
“Zeshin Yokimura,” the man replied. “I’d like to talk to Natari. Alone.”
Yoshi’s eyes narrowed. “Why should I leave?”
“It would be wise.”
“Yoshi, don’t worry. I’ll be fine,” Natari interrupted. “Let’s go talk somewhere private.” Zeshin smirked and followed after her.
“Miss Mazumi, there is something of great importance that I must inform you of,” he began. “Years before humans even thrived on this planet, there was a race of humanoid robots that ranged across the land. There were two factions: Maximals and Predacons. These two factions waged wars and still continue to do so. It is your task to stop it.”
“Stop what?”
“Their fighting. You must retrieve an artifact deep within the earth’s crust. The war will stop when you do.”
Natari blinked a few times. “Um...do I have a choice in the matter?”
“Iie(7),” he replied sternly. “Come quietly and no one will get hurt.”
“But what about my friends and brother?”
“They will be fine. Now come with me, Natari.”
Kohei
was watching from the bushes. His blue eyes were wide in shock. Natari was
leaving
Zeshin and Natari walked behind the house. There was a strange purple portal materializing right before their eyes. Kohei was astonished. In all his travels, he had never seen anything like that. He watched in amazement as Natari walked into the portal. Before it was closed for good, he jumped from the bushes and into the portal as well.
He could hear Zeshin screaming in rapid Japanese for him to get out, but he refused and followed after his ‘precious’ Natari.
***
When Natari hit ground, she found herself sprawled out on a deserted plain. There wasn’t a person or town for miles. Just as she was getting a good look around, something landed on her, causing her to fall back. She sat up and pushed whatever it was off of her.
It was then that she realized who it was. “Kohei?!” she gasped. He nodded with a big smile on his face. “Ugh, and here I thought I could at least get away from you.”
“Why, I feel hurt, Natari,” he replied standing up and brushing dust off his kimono.
Natari narrowed her eyes at him. Supposedly, she was to find an artifact in the earth’s crust. How was she to begin, and more importantly, where was she to begin?
“Get out of my way, you slagging human,” growled a voice from behind them. Both turned around and nearly fell over in shock. There was a huge humanoid robot looming over them. He had crimson optics, a blue face, and very sharp teeth. He had a sword clutched in his hand.
“Do not speak like that to Miss Natari!” Kohei protested shielding her from the robot’s view.
The robot stared at him. “Never mind. I should probably be asking what two fully evolved humans are doing on prehistoric earth.”
“Nani(8)?” Natari repeated. “Where did that man take me?”
“What man?”
“There was a man by the name of Zeshin and he told me to enter this portal to retrieve some artifact from the earth’s crust. He said it would stop the fighting between the Maximals and Predacons.”
“Ha! I’d like to see a weak little thing like you stop the Beast Wars. So what’s your name, human?”
“My
name is Mazumi Natari(9). I am 15
years old and I am from Tokyo
,
“I’m
Gensai Kohei(9). I’m 16 and I
also live in
“And I am known as Dinobot. You two seem harmless enough. I guess I’ll take you back to the Axalon.” Natari and Kohei exchanged glances. Already this wasn’t looking like it was going to be a pleasant visit.
***
“Zeshin, you baka(10), why did you allow that foolish boy to follow the girl?” the icy voice hissed.
Zeshin winced. “I tried to stop him, my lord. But he was determined to follow after her.”
“Never mind. I don’t want to hear your excuses. Both of them will eventually die anyway.”
“Pardon?”
“You don’t actually believe little Natari will be able to get that artifact, do you? She’s a weak little girl who couldn’t even hold a sword. I’d say the foolish boy has a better chance than her.”
Zeshin was in a state of shock. He hadn’t meant to put anyone in danger. But his sensei(11) was telling him that Natari and Kohei would both eventually die in the end. He felt guilty. If he had known this, he wouldn’t have agreed to help his master in the first place.
“And Zeshin, please see to it that the portal is sealed up. I don’t want those meddling children returning anytime soon.”
“Hai, milord.” He bowed and exited the chamber. “How could I have been so foolhardy?” he asked himself. “I endangered those childrens’ lives. Now I must be the one to save them.”
