Epilogue

Nobody was home. Nobody, that was, except for Dane. He thought that I was still sleeping, hopefully.

I crept down the stairs, and saw him on the couch, his eyes closed, and so deep asleep, he was just this side of death. I avoided every single creaky floorboard, and walked over to him. I smiled at his sleeping form, and sat by his side, then leaned over him, and kissed him softly. We had gone out for a walk in the Japanese gardens that were right down the street, and it was there, that we had agreed to love each other. He’s the biggest sap I’ve ever met, when it comes down to it. He had apparently planned this all ahead, and was only waiting for the right time to set the plan in motion.

Dane sighed, and started to roll over in his sleep, but I stopped him gently, and he opened his eyes groggily. “Shin?”

I smiled, and he pulled me down next to him, saying, “I’m going back to sleep. You stay there.”

With a laugh, I turned over, and embraced him in return, resting my head upon one of his arms. He sighed into my hair, and I heard, “Sinead! Sapphire’s here!”

I groaned, and said, “Alright!”

Dane smiled at me, as I got up, and stretched. I smiled back down at him, but neither of us said anything. Sometimes, just sometimes, knowing that someone loved you, and lived you so deeply, that they couldn’t even form the words “I love you,” was the most reassuring thing of all.

I wrapped my blanket around me, and started to head up the stairs. Sapphire and Randon were there, and with Dunkin’ Donuts. Sapphire grinned, and Moonraker and Chandler appeared over her shoulders. I smiled, and Starath and Mathew were seen over Randon’s shoulder. I smiled, and called down the stairs, “Dane! Get changed! We’re going for a hike in the woods!”

A groan and a “thump” answered me, then a, “Sinead, you do know that I love you, right?”

“Yep.”

“And that I’m going to kill you?”

“Yep.”

“Right. Just making sure.”

And did we all live “happily ever after”? Nope. Everything has their rough times, as we all did. Authors and characters dropped by, always randomly, and we all loved it.

But, reader, can “happily ever after” describe what heaven is like?
