The Great Battle

- Part three

“Have you got everything?”

“Yes mom!” Cried Sivilon.

“Did you polish your armour like I asked you to?”

“YES MOM!”

“Don’t shout at me!  Remember to contact me when you are there, OK?”

“Yes mom.” He whispered this time.

“Have you....”

“Mom, I’m going to miss my ship at this rate.  Love you, bye!” He said but Eagleite pulled him back and hugged him.

“Be careful, please, I don’t want to lose you.” She cried.

“I will mom.  Love you to, now please, let me go!”  He gasped.

She squeezed him, released him reluctantly, and watched him leave.

She was so worried.

Not a month after he had joined the War Training Centre, was he shipped off to war.

It was just her luck.

She waved him off, managing a weak smile to put his mind at rest, and turned away dolefully as he boarded the ship.

She stood a few moments, her optics dim, before an idea flickered in her thoughts.

With this, she made a hurried dash down the street.

Like she had hoped, she saw Dinobot picking up his bags and heading towards the ship.

“Dinobot!” She cried.

He turned and looked at her.

Recently, Eagleite had been watching Dinobot train her son during the afternoons, so she was not an unusual sight.  She mainly watched Dinobot, not her son, but he never seemed to suspect anything.

She ran up to him.

“Dinobot, you better be careful and look after my son, he’s under your command.”  She demanded sourly.

“I will.” He confirmed, giving her a surprised look.

“And one other thing, um.... just keep safe and don’t get shot.”

“I hope not to get shot, I will try my best.” He sighed, pondering a bit over this unusual request.

She stood a moment and he turned his head confusedly and moved slightly to his right, his eyes following the line of soldiers boarding the ship.

But what happened next surprised him beyond anything.

Rather hurriedly, she jerked forward and gave him a short kiss and ran off muttering something about him being the biggest slag heap she’d ever met.

Dinobot stood, dazed, for indeed he had never been kissed, and he had never imagined it to be quite like that.  Baffled, he shrugged and shook his head in bewilderment, before boarding the ship that would lead him to a destination few could imagine.

_-____-_____-______-_____-_____-______-_____

Cheetor hustled inside the packed out sitting area of the oversized hovercraft.

For it hardly lived up to the name ship.  It barley held the capacity of the hot, irritable robots that filled it.

There were hundreds of them, all troops, squashed in the room he was in at present.

He squeezed past huge robots, twice the size of him.

“Hmph!  And I’m supposed to be a sergeant major when my own troops could sit on me and not notice!  I don’t see how this is gonna work.” He thought and groaned inwardly.

He forced himself into the next room.

It was less crowded, but still stuffy and dimly lit.

He found a spot to sit and sat next to a guy who was at least his size.

“Hey, what’s yer name?” The stranger asked immediately in a gruff voice.

He was mostly dark coloured with a navy blue face and dark grey arms and legs but he had a silver band across his optics which was quite startling.

“Cheetor.” He replied, trying to sound confident.

“Heh heh heh.  Cheetor?  That is a strange name.” He chuckled, but it was more like a croak.

“Long story how I got that name.  What’s yours?”  The young Maximal questioned.

“Malonstrite.  Sergeant Malonstrite.”  He coughed hoarsely.

“Pleased to, uh, meet you.” Stumbled Cheetor sheepishly.

“Hmm hmmm.  Your gonna have to toughen up a lot kid, if you’re gonna cope.  War ain’t pretty.”  He spluttered.

“I know.  I have had my experiences.” Cheetor snapped back, feeling misjudged.

Malonstrite chuckled.

The person on Cheetor’s left was fast asleep.

‘Probably a good idea!” Thought Cheetor, an irritable sneer flickering across his face.

“It’s a mighty long trip, if I were you, I’d sleep it off.  You’re gonna need the energy.  We’ll probably have a day to get sorted out, then we are off to fight.”  Malonstrite muttered, stating Cheetor’s thoughts, and his optics dimmed.

Cheetor sighed.  It was going to be a long day.

Optimus walked aboard the ship, a war ship, not a scout ship.

Cybertron was using their full air force, including scouting pilots.

Optimus had had a fair deal of war training so he was captain an elite force of fighter pilots.

Specially trained for air combat only.  He had command of a huge ship and inside the ship were fifty smaller fighter planes.  One each for every member of his crew.

His ship was called Infinite 7.

Optimus smiled.

He was a leader once more.

His crew were smart looking, consisting of forty males and ten females, all highly qualified.

He knew the battle ahead was going to be tough. The Gitrix aliens had incredible technology and were no easy targets.

He addressed all of his crew and explained what was going to happen if the plan went well.

Major Tylete had given him various strategies for various situations.

He knew exactly which strategy was best.

He'd had much training in this field, in a short space of one week, for troops and fighter planes were needed urgently.

But the startling thing was, the place they were heading.

If fate had a face, it most surely would be grinning now, as it could foresee the future.

They were headed towards Raltraxon.

He was awoken by a loud internal beeping system.

Dinobot rose from his sleeping position and groaned.

He’d had a rather uncomfortable sleep.

The ship he was on was nearing the landing area so he had set his internal clock to wake him up at just the right time.

He looked around the room, which had four other captains.

Who were staring at him.

“What?” He snarled.

A blue coloured robot spoke.

“Nothing, you just look...”

“Different.”   Said another finishing the sentence.

Dinobot snorted and looked down at himself, there was nothing odd about him....

Then he remembered the question so many looked as if they wanted to ask.

His strange torso and colourings, his beast mode that had been folded back.

No one besides his old comrades had seen beast modes or beasts for that matter.

Just to keep them in awe he transformed into a veiloceraptor.

“Why, that’s incredible!” Exclaimed one of them.

“That looks like and Earth creature, were you one of the Axalon crew?” Asked the blue robot.

Dinobot gave them a toothy grin.

He clicked his large raptor claw on the ground and savoured the look on their faces.

He was originally part of the Soundwave crew but he didn’t want to complicate matters.

“Yes.” He snarled.

He transformed back and the others watched the transformation, totally amazed.

They stood up and Dinobot glared down at them.

He was so much taller than them, which was a nice feeling.

“You are exceptional, you look like a truly skilled warrior, shouldn’t you be a colonel?” Asked a grey robot.

“Yes, I should, but you can direct that question to the maximal general.” He snorted.

The ship landed with a slight rumble and the others stood frozen.

Questions on the tip of their 'tongue'.

“Would all Colonels please leave the ship.” Came a computer voice.

Dinobot sat down and pulled up his bag.

The other four seated themselves.

They knew this procedure; colonels and majors would take their time.

Finally after a long wait it was their turn to go.

A door opened and the four captains grumbled as they moved out.

The sight was not pretty.

The army had already been informed of the plan.

Out in the city the enemy Gitrix warriors would be attacked by the flyers so that they thought

the Cybertronians were coming from the west.

Meanwhile the foot soldiers would be landed in the east and would take their various troops and would attack from behind the enemy.  The flyers would then go off and reinforcements would help assist the ground warriors.

So the idea was basically for the foot Captains, lieutenants etc., take your troops and take your positions, fight and listen to orders from the rank above you.

That was it.

The moment Dinobot stepped out he was given a disk with the plans to read as he went along.

He was pulled away by a red coloured robot who brought him to a group.

He had already been introduced to his lieutenants under his command and to his troops.

He was pushed in front of them.

All around him orders were being shouted.

“Move out and take positions!” Yelled a Lieutenant somewhere in the distance.

“Switch your com-links on and take position!”  Shouted another.

He was glad that his orders had already been explained to his lieutenants.

He gave command to them to take their troops and control the Sergeants below them.

“Yes sir.” Each cried and spread out.

Dinobot shook his head.

The whole situation was so rushed and confusing.

Just like he remembered it.

He ran ahead and let the information and maps fold in front of him.

Symbols, writing and diagrams covered his optics.

He recorded the information into his memory banks and neared his position.  He ran up to the fort and stopped and looked through the one-way mirror.

The battle had begun.

Around him explosions and high shrills of laser fire ripped through the air.

Below, troops gushed out from all over and entered the battlefield just outside the city.

The Gitrix warriors had already guarded the back of the city with heavily armoured troops.

Gitrix warriors looked very different to them.

They were organic creatures that looked a bit like a cross between a slug and a spider.

They were armoured from head to toe and Dinobot was in a way glad that he could not see the hideous faces of the Gitrix fighters.

There were two advantages that the robots had.

Incredible communication skills.

They simply had to load a disk with all the battle plans and information on it.

Another advantage was that should their leg be blown off, or arm, they could simply replace it and with the new healing medicine that Rhinox had invented, they could now heal fifty percent faster if there were no CR chambers near by.

Dinobot let his com-link rattle on, telling him updates of the situation below.

He watched as the Cybertronians shot rapidly at the larger Gitrix warriors.

Robot after robot fell, limbs ripped off and heads being blow away.

He listened to his update.

“Recorded maximal loss at present.  207.  Gitrix army advancing on maximal positions by fifteen metres.”  Hummed the feminine computer voice.

The situation was indeed not good.

The Gitrix loss was not yet finalised but he estimated a good 100 were down in the past ten cycles.

More reinforcements poured down the hill and shot violently.

He caught sight of a large yellow maximal.

Yellow and dark reddish grey.

Then he realised the dark red/grey streak seemed to grow longer on his body.

The dark red streaks were mech fluid seeping out from various wounds.

The yellow soldier fought bravely and gunned down a weakened Gitrix.

He then rolled across dodging laser beams and took out a sword and sliced through the legs of another Gitrix.

The Gitrix fell and blood poured out from its knees as the other part of the legs fell to the ground.

It was a sickly sight.

Though the Gitrix armour was strong, if thinned down a sword could break through and thrash the delicate skin.

The yellow warrior made his way towards one of the Gitrix cannons and blasted it.

He seemed unstoppable.

Then he threw a few blade disks at an alien and hit it in its windpipe.

It fell to the ground, writhing in agony.

The merciless warrior left it to suffer and ran to help a comrade.

On his way there he was shot in the side and he somersaulted and landed on the ground, rolling towards the enemy.

He stood holding his side and fired at the Gitrix, which barley seemed to notice the blasts.

It lashed out at him but he nimbly moved across and kicked it in the shin.

It tripped and blasted a shot at him.

The shot hit the warrior and he was blown back several feet.

For a moment he froze, the he slowly got up and fired at a Gitrix that was attacking his original comrade he wanted to help.

“Very brave.  I will recommend that he gets a higher rank than just a mere soldier.” Dinobot thought.

The yellow warrior cut down the Gitrix.

He ran off towards another cannon.

The cannon fired and hit him, blowing him to pieces, killing him.

Something in Dinobot’s stomach jumped and he felt sick.

He shook his head and looked away.

The sky was darkened by smoke but was lit up constantly by explosions.

The Gitrix warriors were advancing, but their numbers were greatly depleted.

A few metres ahead a small blue soldier was struck down by a Gitrix, which aimed its gun at the soldier’s head.

Dinobot stood and fired a blow at the Gitrix.

The blow knocked it over and gave him time to run over to it.

It rose up and he punched it.

The surprised and dazed Gitrix screamed and lashed out at him.

Dinobot stuck his sword into its chest and throwing all his weight upon the handle of the sword, ripped it through the armour.

Above all the thundering noise Dinobot heard a squelch as the sword sliced through its chest.

Its eyes widened and a look of surprise and defeat filled them.

It staggered back a few steps and fell, dead.

Dinobot glared down at his enemy.

“Th..thank you sir.” Stuttered the maximal he’d saved.

“Go back and fight.” He hissed.

“Y...Yes sir!” He cried and jogged down the hill to accompany his fellow fighters.

Dinobot gripped the sword and pulled it out of the Gitrix.

He wiped it on the ground. It was soaked with blood.

He fired his eye beams at a Gitrix and dazed it.

The female soldier then struck it down.

She saluted him and went off to fight another enemy.

Dinobot grunted and crouched behind the fortress once more.

His com-link rattled to life.

“Recorded maximal loss at present.  380.  Gitrix retreating.  Repeat Gitrix retreating.”

Dinobot sighed in relief.

They were lucky this time.

He’d seen worse.

And he knew that there was worse to come.

Diamond slipped on her armour.

Her troops did the same.

The light was dim in the shelter and there was a sense of fear in the air.

She had been given five sergeant majors under her command and had been given instructions of what to do with them. Now, with the plan rehearsed, she nodded and let the sergeant take the troops outside.

She watched as the troops, with heads held high walked out to their deaths.

There were 7000 Gitrix warriors out there; they had 5000 warriors all together.

A single Gitrix could take out at least three robots before it fell.

She shook her head.

“Madame, um, sir?  No, no...Miss...no!  Um, Lieutenant?” Stuttered a voice from behind her.

She swivelled round to see a small green and red robot holding a disk.

“Revised battle strategies and maps for you, Lieutenant.” He said, optics wide.

She smiled faintly.

“Not used to having a woman as a lieutenant, hey?” She asked as she took the disk and slipped it into her wrist compartment.

“I must say, it is a first.” He said shyly.

He was just a messenger and a disk carrier, not a fighter.

She nodded and he left, off to deliver disks to other lieutenants and captains and so forth.

She held her sword up, it, like her armour, was a lovely gold colour.

It would soon be red with blood.

She held her sword up to the dim light and then slipped it back into its casing.

Then she heard a loud bang and high shrill noises.

The battle had begun above ground.

The place shuddered.

She narrowed her optics in determination and ran outside the shelter.

She ran across the burnt terrain and passed the small camps and sprinted down the hill.

The sight was most gruesome.

There were robots falling all around her and screams could be heard and battle cries were being shouted.

She took out her gun and sword and carried on down the hill and into the battle.

The other lieutenants were safely behind a protective force and watched her with puzzled faces.

“I am a warrior and I will fight!” She screamed and thrashed her sword into the back of a Gitrix fighter.

It moaned in agony and swivelled round trying to punch her.

She dodged and fired at his face.

The creature lashed out and kicked her in her stomach.

She fell back and lifted her shield when it shot its deadly acid bullets at her throat.

Then she leapt up and kicked it in the face and watched it fall.

She had been trained to fight robots, but this was exceptional.

She thrust her sword in his shoulder and it rose violently knocking her over.

Suddenly she realised that out of all the Gitrix warriors, she had chosen to fight the biggest.

She noticed a small badge on its chest.

Her eyes scanned it.

“Computer identify badge on chest!” She shouted as she dodged a blow from the thundering beast.

Her internal computer hummed away.

“Searching data tracks.” It buzzed.

“Hurry up!” She screamed as a shot skimmed her shoulder.

The acid melted her armour and burnt through the metal and a small drop sizzled into her system.

She screamed in pain and stabbed at its legs.

“Badge identified.  Name of Gitrix: Captain Firlistronlistro Huliphransxikhen.  Specialising in ground attack.  Weapons consist of Perlexia laser gun and chest scissors.”  The computer hummed.

‘What a name!” She cried.

Then she added: “Chest scissors?”

All of a sudden the Gitrix grabbed her a pulled her arm with immense strength.

She felt her wires and circuits snapping and twisting as he tried to break off her arm.

Her other arm punched his face and his grip loosened.

She let a dagger come out of her foot compartment and she thrust it into his shin.

It screamed and kicked upwards, its grip tightening again.

Then it spoke.

“You are well trained young one, but I have never lost to a machine and I won’t lose now!”

Its other hand slapped her gun out of her hand and out of his chest came a long pair of scissors that thrust into her chest and started cutting.

She screamed and jolted upwards and kicked her dagger continuously into his shin.

Then, while her hand with the sword was held away from him, she tossed it aside and it stuck into his cheek.

It yelled and dropped her.

She stood and punched it again and again in its face and grabbed her sword.

Guns rose up from his shoulders and started blasting away at her.

She held up her shield she had dropped earlier and ran forward and stuck her sword into his stomach. She pulled the switch on the handle of her sword and inside the Gitrix, the tip of the sword spread into ten little tips and started turning like a fan.

She cut him up from the inside.

Then his shoulder gun hit her in the face and she was blown back, letting go of her sword.

The creature lay on the floor, twitching and turning, then it pulled out the razor sword and tossed it.

It landed at her feet.

Blood sprayed up and gurgled from his wounds.

It spat out dark red blood and coughed.

Then it stopped and lay still.

She rose shakily to her feet and pickled up her sword.

She pulled the switch and the little blades went back in and her sword looked normal once more.

She limped over to the creature and cut of his head.

Then she fell backwards and gasped.

She had never killed anything before, and now she had killed a Gitrix captain.

She was to be very hated amongst the Gitrix warriors now.

Her optics were blurred over with blood.

“Must...stay alert!” She grumbled and shakily stood.

Then a gentle hand touched her back and then lifted her.

She was carried over to the fort and laid down.

She looked up wearily and saw a handsome mauve robot take a bottle of what she liked to call ‘Rhinox’s marvellous medicine’ and pour it onto her wound. Then she blacked out.

The Great Battle

- Part four

Cheetor rested in the small shelter underground.

His bed wasn’t really comfortable and the small room was stuffy with, of course, no windows.

He was several feet underground.

Today had been bad.

They had lost 3500 men and a battle. Reinforcements ran out and now they had to try

retake the city when they had more soldiers, which would be tomorrow.

That also meant that the Gitrix army would be twice as strong and on the alert.

Cheetor rolled on his side and his optics dimmed.

He remembered the scene clearly.

He had been giving orders to a group when he heard her scream.

He gave his group the nod and they headed off to their positions.

He turned towards the scream and ran across the scorched earth.

Fire was blazing everywhere and the noise was deafening.

A huge Gitrix held a sword above the small female soldier, the only female under his command.  She was small but a qualified sergeant and a strong fighter.

Yet there she was, covered in mech fluid, weapons knocked aside, under the foot of the

huge Gitrix.

“Don’t touch her!” he yelled.

The Gitrix didn’t even hear him and Cheetor ran towards it, aiming his gun at it.

In a cycle, the creature stuck its sword into her chest and she screamed a gut scream.

It was blood curling and had such pain in its tone that he shuddered.

Her scream died and she lay motionless, dead.

Enraged, Cheetor shot violently at the Gitrix and was assisted by one of his troops.

The two gunned it down and the soldier headed off back to his position.

Cheetor had stepped over to her and pulled the sword out of her chest.

He stared at his dead comrade and felt like he had failed all.

Then, as if on cue, hot fire enveloped her and she disappeared in the flames.

Cheetor turned again onto his other side.

“You’re gonna have to toughen up a lot kid, if you’re gonna cope.  War ain’t pretty.”

He reflected back on the trip to this place of despair.

It seemed so much calmer and Malonstrite’s words had meant little, but now was a different story.  “War ain’t pretty.” Echoed Malonstrite.

Malonstrite was dead now, killed in battle, yet Cheetor thought he’d last the longest.

“Yes, Malonstrite.  War most certainly isn’t pretty.” He whispered.

Then he fell into an uneasy sleep.

While Cheetor slept on the other side of Cybertron, Optimus yelled commands to each of his flyers.

They had won the battle at Raltraxon and the ground warriors had taken care of the rest.

Now, he told them to land inside the Infinite 7 and come to the command centre.

After a while, the pilots poured in and seated themselves.

“Firstly I want to congratulate you on your victory, I am most proud.

We have the city back under control and it is guarded heavily.”  Said Optimus as he stood at

the head of the table and addressed his crew.

There was a happy sigh that spread across.

“But...with the good news comes the bad.  According to Major Baltirlex, we are needed urgently at the city Kiulist, so seeing as we are leaving straight away, I suggest you get some sleep.” He said.

There was a gentle sort of groan.

His crew were very disciplined, Optimus wasn’t used to this.

He remembered leading Axalon.

In a situation like this, Rhinox would get straight to work on the computers, Cheetor would obey with a friendly remark, Rattrap would argue and fire away annoying comments, Eagleite would be bitter and Dinobot would rattle on about his ideas of what to do next.

As his current crew left the room and went to their quarters, he chuckled softly.

‘I miss that bunch.  I wonder what they are up to now?’ He thought.

“That warrior Diamond is indeed very brave and very talented.”

“Yes, she is.  Perhaps we should reconsider her position?”

“No, not just yet, it was after all, her first battle.”

The three generals discussed rankings and positions in the medics room, they were waiting for various generals and colonels to come out so that they could give them their orders.

The day had been far from a success, with losing 3000 men then having to retreat.

The Gitrix had doubled their defences and a plan was being thought out.

There was a loud hissing noise and Diamond stepped out of the CR chamber, fully regenerated.

She didn’t know that had it not been for the medicine, she would be dead by now.

She moaned groggily, unaware of the quiet Generals.

Then she caught sight of them and slapped her hands at her side and put her feet together.

She held her head up high and looked away from them.

General Silone smiled.

‘She seems disciplined enough, perhaps we should discuss a rank such as a second lieutenant.’  He thought.

“No need, Diamond.  Sit down, we want to talk to you.” Said General Tirelens.

“Yes Sir.” She said, feeling rather stupid and seated herself at a small table.

“You killed a Gitrix captain in battle yesterday, that was quite something.  The situation however does not seem to be improving so we have devised a plan.  Before reinforcements arrive, we will use the remainder of our men to attack and weaken the Gitrix stand around the city somewhat.  Then, while they are sure they have won we will catch them off guard with 6000 soldiers that are being sent.  We have also called for part of the Air Force to help keep flyers at bay.  We have a special task for you, though.  We are going to give you 200 troops under your command, seeing as there are only 2000 men left, that is a large portion.

We expect you to divert their attention with your troops while the rest sneak in from the sides.  You will indeed, lead the first attack.” He said, a cold look on his face.

Diamond was rather confused.

She had shown skills in battle by fighting alone against a warrior, not leading troops.  However, she knew that it was not wise to question orders and agreed.

“Yes sir.”  She said.

“Good, now I suggest you revise the plans on this disk and prepare yourself for battle.  In a few megacycles, we attack.” Said General Tirelens.

She did just that.

The next morning, she gathered her troops.

She had been troubled during the night at the plan the generals had devised.

She hated the thought of killing 2000 men just to ‘weaken’ the Gitrix force.

“Sergeant, I want you to hold the troops behind that fort till I give command for you to let them fire.  Don’t do anything till I tell you to.”  She said.

“Yes Lieutenant.”  He said and led the troops away.

She hurriedly made her way to where the Air Force was situated and found an Air force pilot standing outside his ship.  There was a slight hustle as pilots silently entered their ships.

It was crucial that everyone remained quiet.  It was early in the morning and the light was just a pinkish glow.  It was very cold and the air was still, yet stunk of fuels and oils.

She walked up to the pilot.

She had an idea.

“Excuse me, I am Lieutenant of the first attack troops.  I would like to speak to, if indeed he his in this squad, Captain Optimus Primal.  Is he here?” She whispered.

The pilot paused a moment.

“Yes Lieutenant, he is situated in that ship over to your right, the Infinite 7, though he may be busy, I don’t know how easy it will be to contact him.”  He said cautiously.

“Thank you.” She said before jogging over to the ship.

There was a guard at the ships entrance.

“I am lieutenant of the first attack troops and I wish to consult Captain Optimus Primal on a change of plans.” She said bluntly.

The guard eyed her up and down, as if judging if she really was a lieutenant.  He spotted the badge and the incredible fighting weapons she had with her.

He motioned his hand and a small messenger came up to him.  He whispered something to the messenger and then the small robot ran off.

The guard nodded.

She waited impatiently.

The stars were beginning to disappear and the pinkish light became orange and the dark blue of the sky became lighter.  There was frost gathering on the cold grey ground.

Finally, the messenger came back.

“Optimus will see you.” He said.  “Come with me.”

She walked into the much warmer ship and through a passageway.

It led into a room, a very large room at that.  Along the passage way there were many doors.  Probably the quarters of the pilots.

There was Optimus, looking at a computer screen carefully.

“Sir, Lieutenant um, Lieutenant of the first attack here to see you.” Said the messenger who then left.   Optimus looked up.

“Diamond?  Diamond!” He cried.

“Hello Optimus, how are things?” She asked as she moved over to him.

“Tight, very tight.” He sighed.

He looked rather stressed.

“ Oh, it’s nice to see you’re alive and well.  How is Dinobot?” He asked.

“Well, he was fine when I left him, he went on another ship to another city, so I can’t really say much.”  She replied.

“Hmmm.  I see.  I know Dinobot, he is a great warrior and will not go down easily, I have a feeling that he will survive.”  He said smiling.

“Now, what brings you here?”  He asked.

Her expression changed to a more serious one and she began to explain.

“You, I am sure have read the plans, about the attack to weaken the Gitrix force.  We will undoubtedly lose all 2000 men that fight in the first attack.” She said, a look of concern written on her face.

“Yes, indeed.  I don’t fully agree with these attack plans, but go on.”  He said.

“Well, that is what I came to tell you, I have an idea which may save the lives of thousands...”

Trilone stared out ahead of him, fear gushing through him.

He had just received the plans from the Sergeant and was very nervous.

Lieutenant Diamond was rebelling against the battle plan and all eyes will be on her, seeing as she leads a crucial part of the battle, the beginning.  He didn’t think the idea would work; it was far too risky.

Most definitely, some would die.  Would he be one of them?

He shivered.

The sky was now part navy blue part sapphire.

He looked down sullenly through the fortress and into no man’s land.

That was where he would be running, in a few cycles.

Far across, on the outskirts of the city, stood thousands of Gitrix warriors, they didn’t even bother about a fort.  There were just so many of them.

He knew that there had been slaughter in the city and the remaining Cybertronians were mostly mothers and children.  All hiding in absolute terror.

Then he saw her, silhouetted against the sky.

Weapons ready.

He watched his sergeant and waited for the nod.

All eyes were now on him.

The sergeant held his wrist up to his mouth and spoke into his com-link, which everyone would hear.

Trilone’s com-link rattled to life.

“Weapons ready.” He heard the sergeant say gently.

The world seemed to freeze and there wasn’t a peep.

A feather could be heard dropping onto the floor it was so silent.

Then the dreaded words whispered out of his com-link.

“Attack!” And then there was a roar as the army stood and ran around the fort and down the hill into no man’s land.  And it wasn’t called that for nothing.

The soldiers headed for their target, a Gitrix tower.

The tower was unguarded as it had no cannon in it, but it was still important for later use in battle for the Gitrix.

The Gitrix warriors ran towards them to try and stop them from blowing up their tower.

The two armies ran at each other, shooting all the way.

“Nearly there, nearly there.”  He mumbled.

Then, as the two armies were about to collide, the Maximal warriors stopped running and dived into a deep trench that had been dug out and automatically pulled their shields over their backs.

The Generals watched in horror, what was Diamond doing?

 Trilone shivered and waited.

Diamond stood on the hill and watched as the lone ship flew over to where the puzzled Gitrix army was standing.

Then it dropped a bomb.

As if in slow motion, she watched the bomb fall and land into the crowd of Gitrixs'.

It a split second, she covered her hearing sensors and closed her eyes.

There was a deafening explosion and a bright light.

Trilone felt the rippling effect of the bomb as the earth shuddered beneath him and an incredible force tugged at his shield.  He felt the heat of the explosion scorch his shield and burn his feet that were still out.

Yet he knew being in the trench and underground, almost, would protect him.

General Tirelens stood, frozen, as did his troops.

No one moved as he watched the ship fly off leaving the destruction of the bomb behind.

Slowly the smoke cleared.

Where all the Gitrix soldiers had been standing, was nothing but a big black hole.

The remaining Gitrix guarding the city, about 700 left, stood in awe.

“That,” he snarled, “was not meant to happen.”

The colonel in front of him looked at him.

The general realised that after the explosion, the two hundred in the ditch, rose to their feet and charged towards the remaining army.

“Colonel, send in your troops, we seem to have control.” He snapped.

Then, out of nowhere, 1500 men ran down to help defeat the Gitrix.

With six thousand more men on their way, the General knew that he had already won this battle.  Four thousand Gitrix warriors had died on the spot.

And the plan was so simple, so quick.

He knew that he had made a mistake, and everyone could see.

His idea of weakening the Gitrix force and then attacking was good, but not good enough to ensure victory.

He knew that he had never had a good relationship with the Air force General and that there was little communication between the two.

He was humiliated and Diamond would pay.

Dinobot stalked quietly through the camps in his beast mode.

The night was quiet and still, except for a small party going on in one of the camps, celebrating their victory.

He knew that they were moving on to another city tomorrow.

The city had not yet been attacked, but it was an important city nonetheless and it needed an army to protect it.  The Gitrix warriors would attack very soon.

Dinobot slipped in and out of the shadows and made his way to one of the camps.

The night was warm and the air dry.

His raptor skin did not appreciate the dry conditions at all and was cracking on the surface.

He was very agile in his beast mode and could run very quickly.

He approached the camp cautiously and hid in between it and another camp.

He ducked as two colonels walked out, talking quietly.

There was a low mumble coming from the camp.

Struggling to hear, Dinobot moved closer.

No good.

In the distance was a high fence, keeping the enemies out, and disobedient soldiers in.

No fence was going to stop him.

He was not running away, no, that was dishonourable.

He was just trying something.

Quietly, he darted across to the electric fence.

Two guards stood there, watching the shadows.

Dinobot narrowed his raptor eyes and got a good vision of the sight in front of him.

He made a loud, low growl.

The guards looked about, wondering where the noise had come from.

“Did you hear that?”  One asked.

“Yes, what an odd sound, never heard anything like it!” Said the other.

Dinobot’s yellow eyes glowed angrily.

“Wha..!”

Dinobot cut them of by maximising in the dark and shooting them down, not killing them just knocking them out for the time being.

He needed his mission to be a secret; no one was to know.

He walked back a few steps then ran towards the fence, changing into beast mode.

His raptor legs were like springs and he leapt up from one of the large guards and flew up into the air.  When he was almost at the top, he realised he wasn’t going to make it and transformed into robot mode and clicked a button with his finger, letting a wooden pad slide out and protect his right hand.

His hand touched the fence and he swung himself up and somersaulted over, transforming into beast mode yet again.

He landed with a soft thud.

He was glad that he had attached the wood to himself for it had proved very useful.

Now, all he had to do was keep out of the search beams, which were invisible.

They would pick up a heat source and then alarms would howl and the whole world would know of an enemy approaching, or of someone trying to escape.

Dinobot edged along the fence, just a few centimetres from touching it.

Because Gitrix warriors were organic, his beast mode would not fool the scanners.

His robot mode would obviously attract the scanners.

He closed his eyes, thinking rapidly.

There was a sentinel that stood over the camps that would go down only on voice command of Lieutenants and up, so that was no problem

All he had to do was ask the sentinel to stand down and while it shimmered off for those few seconds, so would the energy beams for obvious reasons.

Dinobot took a breath and hissed out his command.

The sentinel stood down for a few crucial seconds and Dinobot sprinted out of harms way.

He rolled down the small hill and landed on his feet.

There was a clear path ahead of him to the city.

He took a breath and ran into the heavily maximal guarded city.

He got past the guards being a captain and all and made his way into the damaged streets.

The city didn’t look grand at all; with bits of metal falling off from buildings every so often and scorch marks as well as gunshot scarred the houses.

Dinobot walked down the rather quiet alleyway, fists clenched, eye with a green touch.

He spotted a robot sitting on her doorstep, gazing at the floor.

Her house didn’t look damaged.

He quietly approached her, alert and silent.

She didn’t notice him until she felt a shadow come over her.

She looked up fearfully; she hoped it wasn’t another of those terrible beasts.

She felt a little better, but still frightened when she realised it was a tall heavily armoured robot.  He was staring down at her with blood red eyes.

He had a strange thing on his chest; it was a tan colour as were other markings on him.

He looked like a...a...

“Predacon!” She gasped.

Although Predacons and Maximals were now in an alliance and Predacons were of

no direct threat, she hated and feared them.

They had killed her two children and had slaughtered her husband.

And now, an aggressive looking Predacon was towering over her, with a huge sword at his side and a gun near his hand.

He growled.

“Do you have a Cybertron communicator?”  He asked.

“What, why?”  She quivered, rather puzzled.

“I am not going to harm you, and for your assurance, I am not a Predacon.  I am a Maximal warrior.”

She sighed in relief.

“Yes, I do have a communicator.  If you wish to use it, then come inside and I will show you where it is.”  She said as she rose to her feet and headed inside.

Dinobot ducked under the doorway and entered a small living room, and on a table was a communicator, not very up to date, but good enough.

He could see she was quiet poor by the look of the place.

She had the most woeful face and eyes filled with such pain that he never wanted to know why.  Something terrible had happened to her and every movement and expression she showed reflected grief.

“There, you may use it.” She sighed pointing to the communicator.

Dinobot strode over to it, his feet clanging on the metal floor.

She went into the next room and sank down in a chair and switched on her television.

Dinobot tapped away at the controls, trying to contact her. Trying to find a way to contact his daughter.

The communicator hummed as it searched for her communication code.

It was unable to find it.

Dinobot sighed, there was very little chance in contacting her anyway.

She was so far away and there were various things that could prevent the call from coming through.

Still, he could try e-mailing her.  If she got the chance to check it, at least he knew there would be a message for her.

He typed away quietly, leaving her the message that he was alive and well and where he was going next and of their victory.  After he sent it, he closed his eyes.

“Oh Primus, protect her.” He whispered.

He heard someone come up behind him.

“Are you finished?” Asked the timid female.

“Yes, thank you.” He stuttered.

Then she pulled a face and asked him a question.

“What is your name?” She asked

Dinobot hesitated.

He could not tell his identity, but she wasn’t someone who would chat away to everyone in the neighbourhood.

What harm could she do?

“Dinobot.” He hissed and quietly left the house.

Now was the tremendous task of getting back into the camps, without being noticed.
